The funniest part is that there will be real human beings who look at their empty pantry, fully aware of the exact chain of events that led to this and still insist they're happy with their vote. Don't worry chuddies, once the hard times are over, you'll finally get to live out your dream in the coal mine or the screw factory once he brings back all those amazing jobs! You have no idea how bad things really are. Elementary school teachers as a rule cannot do basic algebra. They have no idea why they are teaching anything or what the problem with shortcuts is.

I encountered a third-grade teacher on a dead gay Internet forum about two years ago who was explaining how his students had figured out how to solve problems along the lines of "I have some combination of nickels and quarters that equals an amount of money." I mentioned using a system of two variables and said that this was good groundwork for that concept. He didn't even know what that was let alone how to do it or teach it.

If you go to a good suburban elementary school with involved parents that still has "gifted" classes then the best math teacher in the school, who has the fifth-grade gifted math class, can probably pass the tests that her students will be taking in seventh grade. Not a single other member of the faculty could.

Fuck no. The Democrats have been paying for that decision for the last two decades nearly. The filibuster keeps the Democrats from brute forcing communism when they get in power.

I do think Chick Schumer thinks he can bait Trump into eliminating it though. I am almost certain that is why he is forcing this shutdown.

When I was in college, the people that failed out of their programs always became education majors. One person in particular I watched fail math three times; he transferred schools and got a degree in education. It was a running joke - teachers were the bottom-of-the-barrel students.

Camps cost more resources than Gibs, honestly, even putting them to work as slaves now would cost more resources, we invented HR and its unlikely we will suddenly "uninvent" being overly, coddlingly humane to everyone, enemies included, even when things really pop off.

No, the simplest solution is best, simply cut them off entirely, the chaos that follows is a simple and accepted cost of it, they will either become workers/useful or die, no outside action required.

Charity used to be hyperlocalized and with that came enough shame and also opportunity.

When the government became everyone's daddy and you didn't have to ask to local soupbank for dinner in person a lot of the shame disappeared.
