if you ignore all the fraud and abuse regular people who get SNAP benefits do not actually get that much money. if you are not abusing the system the most you get in many states is about 300 dollars for the entire month. with the current prices of food 300 dollars will not last an entire month without some major thrifty spending. you are not going to be buying lobster or steak or whatever other expensive foods because if you do then you better know how to live off of that single steak the whole fucking month.
Three hundred dollars a month in supplemental food assistance for a single adult is a lot—if you actually cook, and buy ingredients, and use your local food bank for dry staples such as rice, pasta, etc. and have enough cooking know-how to make use of whatever odd, random things they give you.
But nobody cooks anymore, as evidenced by the carts full of absolute shit I see the local black and white trash buying with their EBT every month. Go into Winco, Food4Less, Aldi, or any other no-frills discount grocery, and EBT users' carts are easy to identify—unless they're illegal or OTB immigrants who still know how to cook, and are buying actual ingredients. Yeah, Mexicans in particular love shitty snack cakes and always have those, but they've also got bags of rice, beans and masa, basic produce, and cheaper cuts of meat, so I can't fault them too hard.
We went to Walmart this morning, saw nothing out of the ordinary. Suggest such precautions are being taken only in areas with certain demographics.
Yeah, I hit Winco and Costco today, and both were business as usual (including Mexicans buying a dozen $4.99 Costco rotisserie chickens at a go, which I expect they'll keep doing even without EBT).
I've got a couple of legit disabled friends who are going to need help, and have decided I'm okay with doing that. I have the money; it's not a big deal. Both order groceries online for delivery, and I'll just give them gift cards to the stores they shop at so they can buy whatever they need, as they need it.
