I used to work at a convenience store like 7-11, and EBT would only work on dry/cold food items, not any of our hot sandwiches and pizzas and all that. That did not stop obese niggers from coming in, trying to use EBT on pizza and 89cent cigars, and blowing a fuse because their cards wouldn't work. The card will only automatically pay for accepted items, the rest will still need to be paid for by their own money. When niggers get mad because their EBT cards wouldn't work on certain items, I had the suspicion those weren't even their cards or they did some sort of scamming to obtain them. Because most people are aware of what they can and can't buy.

Former 7-11 shift supervisor. Im so glad they cut off selling those nasty ass taquitos and wings cold to cater to EBT Niggers. I know its odd coming from someone with EBT myself. But I mean the people who spend it on junk they don't need like candy, chips etc. CONSTANTLY. But they can actually use EBT on Pizza, just not the slices. The amount of times I had to argue with grown men over how you can't use food stamps for alcohol baffled me. A lot of EBT Fraud is through selling of the cards, not surprised they don't know. They probably didn't look into it even if they applied and just saw "free money".

Obesity in children is inversely proportional to familial income: the children in the poorest homes have the highest obesity rate. It’s looking more like this SNAP pause is going to help the American obesity crisis.

It's a shame that this is happening, some people are honest and hard working, but still need to rely on this shit, but you won't hear about that, you'll just hear from the usual suspects.
You can work 40hrs at a call center or factory where I'm at and still NEED the SNAP to survive with a lot of the work available. The prevailing wage around some areas is fucked in the US, and we'll likely see it get worse given the recent track we've went down. God help these places if they do get a good portion of their labor pools replaced by toaster droids. ( although robo-hate crime seems right and just, and we'd get that )

Curtailing snap might help as then the price of food will drop to meet demand

As a non-white, non-black with no skin in the game when the decision was being made to bring literal mud-hutters whom you needed to teach humanity to to the states; I understand this frustration immensely.

while I sympathize with the attempt to claim cultural identity, the more immediate truth is that your ancestors, my ancestors, and all the people who lived in that world are long dead, and the world sloughs off more of their influence with each passing day. the decisions made in that time were made for a reason, and without the ability to see with clarity the problems those decisions have caused today. human history is a complex weave and nobody can fully understand it as it's happening, much less after the fact. also, my native kiwifriend, you have far more in common with me - a white person - than you do with your ancestors who existed during the time of slavery.

The Washington Post editorial board criticized Senate Democrats on Wednesday for holding the government "hostage" for a month in hopes of extending costly Obamacare subsidies and urged them to reopen the government by voting for a clean funding bill.

"The right answer is to reopen the government with a clean funding bill, ideally for a full year, to get food stamps flowing and federal workers back in the office, and then have a debate about ACA subsidies," the Post editorial said. "Democrats openly acknowledge that they refuse to do this because it would mean giving up their leverage. If they persist, it could mean families start to go hungry."

Sure can in some areas that that would be condusive to. KY isnt a big food crop place these days though, and the land is already owned by the uppercrust. That said the scenario is unlikely for KY in general, our biggest crop being tabacco; I see alot of the smaller farms that will just dissipate like a fart in the wind at the current rate we are headed. Manufacturing and farm labor takes years ( if not longer ) to cultivate in some cases, so while there might be a path to food prices dropping, you'd need a ton of other factors playing out in a favorable manner.

We can fucking wish it was just toaster droids, then that'd still allow jobs for people to babysit them and do repairs on them if need be. Remember, "AI" is "Actually Indian" and it's fucking showing. And last I checked there's no tard wrangler position for indians.

I find it funny how the answer is right in front of them but either can't or refuses to state that obvious. People use SNAP money to buy the more expensive unhealthy shit instead of buying raw ingredients and cock for themselves. Rice, vegetables, eggs, and poultry go far further then the share bag of M&Ms, chips, and other ultra processed "foods." They really need to restrict the things SNAP and EBT can buy. That way you not only fix the health issues, you also incentivize people to get off of government aid or even outright prevent people trying to abuse it in the first place. But I'm sure this suggestion is racist somehow.

That's the real problem. There is too much incentivization in the system to get and stay on welfare. It is to the point where men and women openly choose not to get married and have a bunch of kids out of wedlock because that is how they get the most gibs. And when they get the gibs, they can spend it all on the worst corporate slop known to man like pigs at a trough. We have to stop this bullshit as a society. Reincentivize marriage, having kids in wedlock, cooking for yourself instead of going to the overprocessed food section or DoorDash. More women need to stay at home and wages for men need to rise.

When I first applied for SSDI, I was denied after a whole year. Then, I hired a big-name law firm that had ads all over TV, because someone told me "they always deny first time applications to weed out people who don't have the heart to continue, and the people who know their case is nonsense". Still took another year and a half, but I don't begrudge my attorney his fee at *all*. I think it was 5% of my award.
The problem is really profoundly disabled people are often completely incapable of navigating the system at all, while the scammers are energetic and (not being disabled) able to fake out the system. What fakers do is doctor shop until they have a pile of paper big enough that even though they don't meet the criteria for any actual listed impairment, they can claim the combination of bullshit they have put together is disabling.

This makes it really rough for people who actually do have some combo of legitimate conditions not specifically matching a listed impairment.

What's worse is when someone actually clearly DOES match a listed impairment and they still fuck them. I knew a literal quadriplegic with one of the worst spinal injuries you can have (severed between C2 and C3) and it still took over two years. Meanwhile, many people with just a grab-bag of bullshit manage to get it (like many lolcows with threads here) just because they're better at grifting.
Not paying people to be sterilized because eugenics is Nazi was a mistake.
I think non-coercive eugenics is actually a good idea. Israel does exactly this. They keep a registry of carriers of various "founder effect" diseases like Tay-Sachs and it's customary before marriage to check both parents don't have some autosomal recessive genetic disease. They've more or less wiped out most of these conditions.

Of course, this requires an intelligent population that will voluntarily do the smart thing.

I guess buckets of fried chicken might work on a different population.

And the thing is, there are A LOT of unethical doctors out there. You don't have to look hard to find the ones that this is making them more money than just telling a patient no.
My favorite was this pair of brothers where one was a lawyer and the other a chiropractor and the lawyer brother would call the chiropractor as an "expert" to make up bullshit.

Nail, meet hammer.
This is the biggest case for a lot of the mental health, depression and anxiety tugboats. It is insanely hard to get a mental health clearance on anything and the system is designed for you to explain your symptoms and what is happening. Tons of them will claim to have manic depression and panic attacks, but really its them false reporting and faking symptoms while there are people with actual chemical imbalances that need shit like Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation or other forms of intense medications to function.
A lot of these people like to flat-out claim things like blanket depression and anxiety are their disorders without understanding that these issues are usually a symptom and not the cause of what the actual problem is for the people that would be mentally disabled enough to need SSDI and SNAP. These people will report anything they read off of WebMD consistently until -like you said- they have a nice pile of paper big enough that even though they don't meet the criteria for any actual listed impairment, they can claim the combination of bullshit they have put together is disabling.

This is why in recent years they have been trying to test people with stress monitors and PET brain scans to see if they actually are having legitimate issues or other kinds of mental problems.
These people will not go as far as to document treatment for these problems but will claim them in order to get benefits.
Sometimes it gets caught in claims investigations but the sheer volume of people that take advantage of the system paired with the amount of people on the programs that actually need it; investigators jobs are practically just to act only when its reported because they don't have the resources to investigate every claim in any quick fashion.

Honest to god, there needs to be some kind of section within the SSDI and SNAP departments that are constantly combing purchases as opposed to waiting until there's a report of abuse or possible fraud to act. Yes, it would be a massive undertaking, but it cannot be more expensive than the literal 1-Billion dollars a year we pay in taxes for SNAP benefits to exist in their current state.

There is a study on this in the National Library of Medicine that directly explains and gives examples, diagrams and a plethora of information on this exact topic. In fact, it pushes for SNAP to be restrictive of the foods it allows its participants to purchase and goes into the mental health of obesity, and how this contributes to it.

The Relationship Between Obesity and Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): Is Mental Health a Mediator?

The study only focused on Los Angeles and its populous but it's a pretty good read into how this could be an exact issue in the majority of areas that utilize SNAP benefits.

It's comical seeing people bitch about how they are going starve without snap. In my area, you can get 5lbs of flour + 5lbs rice, 1lb of butter, 3 gallons of milk, 2lbs of ground beef, canned tomates, spices, and 60 eggs for like $60. Assuming you eat that food in a week, you'll only be out $240 a month for food. Being realistic, I'd only consume around $40 of that a week despite being a male and lifting weights + cardio. It's not like the food I suggested is slop only considered edible for swine, you can make bolognese, home made bread, home made yogurt, fried rice, tacos, etc. Shit, you could go even further by buying in bigger bulk sizes and replacing the beef with beans if you're really struggling. If that is still to much, every big chain store is offering credits cards with 5% cashback on groceries and no interest for a month + a sign up bonus.

I think SNAP should continue to exist but adjusted. Expand who is eligible(Yes, I want more people to get SNAP) but only allow raw ingredients or the absolute basics like bread and reduce the amount of benefits given. With those changes, more people get fed while reducing the amount of money wasted on bullshit or fraud.
