Federal judge “likely” to order the Trump admin to release SNAP funds
BOSTON — A federal judge Thursday appeared to lean toward requiring the Trump administration to use emergency funds to at least partially fund food aid for millions of Americans in November.

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani said she planned to issue a ruling later Thursday on whether to grant Democratic state officials’ request for a temporary restraining order on USDA’s decision to halt the flow of nutrition benefits due to the government shutdown. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the nation’s largest anti-hunger initiative serving nearly 42 million people, is set to run out of money Saturday if officials don’t intervene.

“It’s hard for me to understand how this isn’t an emergency when there’s no money and a lot of people need their SNAP benefits,” Talwani, an Obama appointee, said.

Democratic attorneys general and governors from 25 states sued the Trump administration earlier this week over its decision not to tap emergency funds for SNAP.

“Because of USDA’s actions, SNAP benefits will be delayed for the first time since the program’s inception,” state officials wrote in the lawsuit. “Worse still, USDA suspended SNAP benefits even though, on information and belief, it has funds available to it that are sufficient to fund all, or at least a substantial portion, of November SNAP benefits.”

The Trump administration has insisted that the contingency fund is reserved for emergencies such as natural disasters and does not have enough money to supply the roughly $8 billion needed for benefits next month.

Partially funding SNAP would be “disastrous,” Jason Altabet, the Justice Department’s lawyer, argued Thursday. States would have to figure out how to administer partial benefits — potentially just to turn around and begin administering full benefits should Congress reach a government funding deal, he added.

But Talwani challenged that argument, saying she believed Congress’ intention in setting aside emergency funds for the program was to “protect the American people.”

Even if Congress agrees on a funding patch for the program, logistical and administrative delays will likely prevent the money from flowing immediately. While there is bipartisan support for standalone bills that would fund SNAP through the shutdown, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has said he won’t bring them to a floor vote — an attempt to keep pressure high on Democrats for a full reopening of the government.

Without SNAP, food banks and other emergency feeding organizations have said they are unprepared to bridge the gap. Officials in states like Virginia, Maryland, Louisiana, Hawaii and Minnesota have announced plans to tap state and local funds to provide food aid and assist food banks in the interim.

Talwani acknowledged Thursday that, “absent a 100 percent win” for the plaintiffs, millions of SNAP recipients would lose their benefits on Nov. 1.

The judge has handled several high-profile disputes since President Donald Trump was sworn in to a second term in January.

In April, Talwani blocked a Trump administration effort to strip more than half a million Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan immigrants of immigration parole status granted during the Biden administration. The Supreme Court halted her order the next month, without explanation.

In July, Talwani blocked enforcement of a provision in a Trump-backed budget law that sought to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood. She said the move unconstitutionally targeted the organization. However, last month, an appeals court stayed her ruling, allowing the administration to enforce the funding ban for now

My uneducated speculation is:

They will try to hit supermarket chains first.
There will not be an EBT Death Squad at your door at 9:30 PM November 1st.
You can instead expect supermarkets to be fucked with for the first couple days before being discouraged.

Day 5-14 will be peak risk where you can expect residential areas to see a sharp increase in mid-day break ins.
The typical knock, wait, smash and grab in the late morning meant to target single men/women at work. This is not new. If your place of work offers WFH you may want to consider November 5-14 depending on how vibrant and active your area is. Use the amount of trouble in local supermarkets in the prior days as an indicator. Conduct your business within 2 hours of sunrise as a general rule.
Do not become a shut-in or become afraid to leave your home.

Day 15 and after would be a slow cooldown as new normal is established.
Day 20-40 might see temporary resurgence in desparation if this goes long enough. No one will starve to death, so no one will risk their life, eventually they will settle for the canned beans and lentils.

Never worked in food service but friends who do and have say that black people will tip as long as the server is black. Just another racist projection where everyone else tells you you're racist when you call it out. What's funny is that if you only assign black tables to black waiters, you're just recreating segregation with extra steps.

Rumors has it the shutdown is only until after the elections on Tuesday as they want to blame Trump, I'm not entirely sure how well that would work as it sounds like the nigs are getting set up to loot and riot on the 1rst even if they still have EBT funds. Plus if restaurants give free food only to get swamped with monkeys that won't be a good look. But the first four days might not be bad enough to fully register with Democrat voters.

I turned on the local news this morning and was greeted by a sassy black female politician essentially saying tomorrow there will be riots if no gibs.

Luckily I'm not near the big city. Stay safe, urban-dwelling kiwibros.

It is weird that we as a society just openly accept that black people are monkeys yet we still allow them the same rights and treat them as "equals". Like its just openly accepted there going to chimp out because how dare we not give them free food. I think this is an opportunity to call it out once and for all. The stores that are hiring security are smart but target and Walmart cant then around and pretend "were all equal" and sell faggoty rainbow shirts afterwards.

I think anyone arrested for chimping should lost access to all government assistance for life.
accept? we are bullied into the position.
If you say and discuss how you feel about Niggers, the Neo-Liberal establishment that has bled into everything will shove your ass up your ass.
if you even discuss FACTS such a Bell-curve IQ shit, or anything, its over for you, all that can save you is that few notice.

I've heard the opposite where black servers hate waiting on black customers and will actively avoid doing so because they know they don't tip.

You are right in general, but the government has a vested interest in subsidizing bread and circuses to maintain control.
SHOULDA DONE A FUCKING BETTER JOB THEN.
Wages, FUCKED.
Entertainment, GAY, very VERY GAY, GAY AND SHIT.
Future for working class people IN THE SHITTER.

they shoulda fucking subsidized their bedrock of a populace harder, but no, GOTTA have more Illegals, Jeets, and fucking money for the small hats and proxy conflicts in Whogivesafuck-land.

If grocery stores are so dependent on EBT that the lack of welfare parasites causes them to close then they deserve to go under.

It is not the government's job to prop up private corporations with taxpayer funds.

Sink or swim assholes.
Ho ho hooo, wait til you dig into the details of the federal corporate subsidies the legislature has been handing out for decades.

Sauce on these? I couldn't find it on either company's website or Twitter accounts.
It can't be real. Tens of millions of people have EBT cards, you can't offer a group that size "free dine-in" just on the basis of flashing one of their cards.

My state announced they have thirty million dollars to give to the roughly half million who won’t get their regular gibs. Roughly sixty dollars a person if we just do basic division.
Still too much imo, but lol. I can already see the “pictures of crying brown people that will make you say ‘fuck having the fruits of my own labor’ an sheit.”
