I'm late to the party so I'm sorry if this has been asked or addressed already, but what are impoverished people genuinely supposed to do to feed themselves and their family besides shoplifting and the food bank? I'm Canadian, so depending on the province there are government programs available to help supplement one's income, I don't think food stamps/SNAP/EBT are a thing here, at least they aren't where I live.

Food banks, friends, churches, A FUCKING JOB…. You know why we have so many illegal immigrants? Because they can’t complain. It’s supposed to be that marginalized/low skill people work picking peaches and scrubbing toilets and whatever. Then, because they are citizens with rights, they force their employers to pay them enough to survive and raise families.

INSTEAD, we import scabs with no rights, suppressing wages and making it more profitable to be a couch potato on welfare. The cost to society is unimaginable.

Or more it's just a really, really clear sign that this ruling is so obviously arrant nonsense from an out of control activist judge that even the most liberal SCOTUS Justice knows it and that it would be an absolute embarrassment for the judiciary branch to attempt to enforce such a nonsensical order without precedent.

I'll note I predicted EXACTLY this result the instant I even heard of this ruling before even reading it.

Even Jackson is pissed off. "Which the First Circuit is expected to issue with dispatch." Basically, get off your asses, retard judges.

They are free to convert their statistically high stores of adipose fat into into energy. If they need food, they can use the money they spend on alcohol, cigarettes, weed, gambling, and lottery tickets for groceries. But that would require a sacrifice on their part.

The EBT shutdown will likely extend their lives. They will have to drink water instead of soda for a change or learn to cook. If the EBT shutdown is for 3 months or longer, a few percentage of them will actually learn to eat healthier and more frugally.

Getting a job is one thing. KEEPING a job is another matter entirely.

With SNAP being delayed, all I'll say is that the ones panicking the most are the ones that shouldn't be getting it. Where I live, your head would explode at how many people are getting SNAP benefits. Just from what my mom has told me, she knew people who were effectively defrauding the system.

I know for a fact the banks that hire the evaluators were crying "watch the fuck out" after Julys data came out and issued a stark warning about the deteriorating economic conditions in the USA.I thoroughly believe the GOP want this shut down to happen and use it as a scapegoat (Dems) for when things start going belly up. 250 pages about SNAP but a thread on the economic conditions in the USA would probably hardly garner 10 pages.

Yeah that's bullshit. Jackson personally did this. Just as a procedural explanation, each Justice is in charge of things like motions for stays for a specific Circuit or multiple Circuits.

They are entirely responsible for that. Ketanji Brown Jackson is the Circuit Justice for the First Circuit.

Here are the others.

Justice Jackson was personally responsible for this decision, which was entirely within her discretion. A Circuit Justice is, in fact, acting as the Supreme Court when making decisions like this, so it is not entirely a lie to say "the Supreme Court" did this.

As an historical example, William O. Douglas would automatically grant any petition for a stay for any death penalty case, as he was intrinsically opposed to the entire concept. So "the Supreme Court granted a stay" would be technically accurate, while missing the point that it was Justice Douglas who personally did it.

I'll let them grow crops on my land in exchange for 50% of their harvest. Alternatively I am willing to have them live on my property and farm for me at my command in exchange for food clothes and shelter.
