I don't think that's the right take. The description of Elden Stars outright says that the Greater Will sent the Elden Beast to the Lands Between:

The Elden Beast isn't the Greater Will made manifest, it's more like a Biblically Accurate™ angel than a god.

“It is said” is the thing that makes me doubt it. The game lore is fun because then you have the rememberence of the Elden Beast say

“Remembrance of the Elden Beast, hewn into the Erdtree.

The power of its namesake can be unlocked by the Finger Reader.
Alternatively, it can be used to gain a great bounty of runes.

It was the vassal beast of the Greater Will and living incarnation of the concept of Order.”

Hewn it was cut into the Erdtree, perhaps grafted on. The current Elden Ring is not the same as the past or even the Crucible Elden Ring.

The entire order line has me think that the GW and Beast are just backers who Marika and Godfrey wanted to fuck if.

Buddy of mine took the flame as well but didn’t get Melina’s vow to kill him:

Turns out if you go down to the frenzied flame but don’t take it, then continue till Melina sacrifices herself. After that take the frenzied flame and you don’t have a promise by Melina to kill you.

using my 150 ng+ character for dlc, just speed ran to mogh for my third boss, even at that level it still takes no time to get invasions popping

I leveled a new character to 130 for the DLC since I'm not sure how a NG+ character will impact the scaling.

I want the best experience possible and I feel like this is probably the way to go.

Does anyone think the patches quest will be continued in the DLC? In the base game it just kinda ends with you giving an iteam to Lady Tanith but that doesnt do anything, and patches moves back into his cave. it feels pointless.
Was the joke just that Patches quest is installed into the game over multiple patches? I don't get it,

I doubt that they will because they haven't had base game content expanded upon in the DLC of any of their other games, but my point is still that this quest feels pointless.

He removes Marika’s freewill and makes her a slave to the Golden Order Fundemenalists aka the Elden Beasts fanboys who don’t even know it. Gold Mask doesn’t ask why Marika smashed the Ring, he’s just angry she did. He see’s her moving against the Order as bad without trying to understand anything. Ranni and Miquella are backed by Marika for whatever reason and they both see the Order as a failure.

There’s a whole plot going on that suggests Marika basically allowed the Night of Black Knives and it might’ve been to kill the Beast. Supposedly the new healing spell in the DLC suggests that the Order imposed itself on Marika and the Erdtree.

The entire plot suggests that the Golden Order has no real solutions, basically no one winning backs them. Radagon shuts off the path to anyone who could claim the title. The Erdtree of the Golden Order is a stump, too. The illusion of Grace also burns, but the actual Stump is the only thing remaining of the actual Erdtree. Sometime before the Shattering the tree burned and their was a paradigm shift because there wasn’t any Sap for shit like the old days.

Hope so Patches never really stabs you in the back in this game. He at most is a disappointing boss fight. He doesn’t even hate clerics.

The Eras in the game are as follows:

Gloam-eyed Queen and Elden Lord Ghidorah that Marika and Godfrey overthrow with the help of Sarrosh.

Crucible Era to Golden Lineage Era Godfrey and Marika reign. Sap flows out of the Erdtree and it’s a physical giant tree.

Golden Order Era after the War against the Giants. The Erdtree is a stump and no more sap. Radagon marries Marika.

The Shattering is basically a fight over which Outer God is going to claim influence over the new age. Radagon and the Beast do not want anyone becoming Elden Lord, Marika does.

Marika’s spoken dialogue at sites of Grace is counter to her actions. She basically shatters the ring in a gambit to recall the Tarnished in hopes that Godfrey or something else.

This will all probably be disproven when the DLC comes out, but Marika probably is not the villain.

I've progressed Goldmask's quest and read this thread and have come to the conclusion that Fromsoft is just as charmingly obscurantist as ever and no one really knows what's going on. Hoping the DLC at least narrows the range of plausible interpretations.

The Radhan model they have is PS1 quality and the Miquella they have literally uses the Twin Princes arms. That and the constant effect spam on screen makes me think it’s one of the Archethrone fags who got kicked off the project.
