Even though they're optional whoever designed the Fallingstar Beast needs to eat a dick, both fights are a pain in the fucking asshole. Literally more difficult than the main bosses sans big fucker from the reveal trailer.
Edit also:
For those of you having issues with Margit, GOOD LUCK
Wasted two hours of my life on this typical ass post-bloodborne "I cause the camera to sperg out as I flail around in my tiny arena" boss in the one crystal mines because I thought it was the one that gives you the item which allows you to buy infinite tier 1 and 2 smithing stones. 🎩

The boss has a million follow ups so even when they do a leaping attack or an attack with a ton of wind up you ALWAYS have to be aware of the follow up. ALWAYS.

He has tons of attacks that are super easy to punish, namely the one where he jumps in the air and the overhead charge attack, neither have follows ups, just dodge and do a charge attack, could probably beat him by just baiting out those attacks over and over.

I beat Margit first retry this morning after sleeping on it. Then I killed an NPC for screwing me over, then wondered if I should have. Usually I try to keep them alive for all the story content, but we’ll see what happens.

Also, what kind of asshole cuts off an eagle‘s talons and replaces them with knives? Eagles already basically have knives on their feet.

Lastly, does anyone else really hate mounted combat? I feel like my range is never as long as it seems like it should be. I’m also not great in games like Bannerlord, so maybe it’s just me, but I feel like every time I try to run by a group and harrass them, they get in front of me, lock me in place, and pummel me before I can turn my mount around.
Been talking to a lot of my friends, this game seems to have many branching npc questlines. so far many of my friends have run into different scenarios with the same npc. its quite cool.

Mounted combat just takes getting used to. When I get stunned by being hit I just mash the jump or sprint button and continue in the same direction I was going in previously.
You can make it a bit easier on yourself by holding heavy attack, most weapons have a holding charge phase when on torrentback.

Shout out to the longbow as the MVP of my playthrough so far, it's gotten me through so many levels and has even been useful for a couple of bosses.

Speaking of bosses, just beat Astel and have been reunited with my moonlight Greatsword (Dark Moon Greatsword) Definitely my favorite boss so far, even if his grab attack as a little bullshit.

Shields don't help, those fights are for spirit summons.
Tweaking the formula every game is good, and after multiple games where shields were kinda ass and one that basically removed them aside from a joke it's cool that they got some emphasis, but I hardly ever use mine anyway after giving it a run. Aggression and dodge frames still seem to be king.

Haven't found the parry knife yet though and I loved that thing in DS3

Elden ring gets works on my machine out of kneeled shazams. But in all seriousness, I had to change my viewpoint on it. It's not dark souls, it's some blend of sekiro mechanics mixed with breath of the wild chests and camps open world fucking about. With dark souls 3 combat. And you need to grind more than in dark souls, because leveling up is slightly nerfed, at least on mage with focus points

If you need to grind take a look at this video.
Granted, it’s not some crazy amount. It’s the best you can get though and you can access this area early. Boring but it works for what it is.

spirit summons.

apparently misbegotten warrior + crucible knight is optional anyways, despite nothing suggesting that it is. holy shit that was one of the most fucking annoying, enraging, and genuinely unpleasant things I have ever had to do in a souls game and I am so fucking glad it's over

also I think patches sells the parry dagger

Ahaha found some non-hostile peasants having a dance party around a pile of burning bodies you can loot a noble's outfit from

Suit yourself if you don't want to experience intended new features that are emphasised in the intro but you're sure whining a lot for someone doing a self-imposed challenge.

Point was that's why there's irritating Nioh gank fights everywhere, not shields

Not too far in but I'm already burned out by the open world, it's so tedious and the exploration rewards suck mad dick; I don't really give a fuck about gorgeous views or scenic vistas.

I HATE THE CRUCIBLE KNIGHT
I HATE THE CRUCIBLE KNIGHT
I HATE THE CRUCIBLE KNIGHT
I HATE THE CRUCIBLE KNIGHT
I HATE THE CRUCIBLE KNIGHT

And an extra FUCK YOU to the crucible knight.

Having played the Game and Experienced three of my friends play the game (Me: 5hrs, Friend A: 22hrs, B:3 hours, C: 4 hours)
Having all picked different classes and all having thousand plus hours in the previous games we have a pretty good grasp on the game and its loops.
The horse is amazing, it allows for the easy management of many enemies, allowing for real platoons to be thrown at the Tarnished, and we all played very differently allowing for different solutions to challenges. I was very impressed with the various ramparts made against the (I think three) castles in the game. Weapons that in previous games seemed pointless gained a lot of use when the game introduced Cavalry, I had in the past made Hoplite builds in DS with the pike or winged spear, but they were always hampered by being a novelty rather than a viable build. Perhaps it is my brain mushing things wrongly but in DS3 it felt like you absolutely had to roll through everything with shields being a complete joke. Warriors, Knights, and other strength builds in DS felt very uniform, and in Elden Ring (almost certainly due to rose glasses and lack of experience with it compared to her older sisters) A greatsword wielder, a samurai, a knight, and a deprived do not feel like they are playing the same tune (the four characters that my friends and I play, but once agian it may be the familiarity that leads us all to taking the same strides in DS-BB) the great sword user would cluster the enemies up shepherding them with the horse and take them all out in a few hits. The Samurai who like wise was not a shield user was more prone picking them off on foot with the bow and Kunai like it was Ghost of Tsushima or Sekiro. The Knight would charge and pull out rather than stand and fight, using the spear for charges and the estoc for when they were caught in an engagement. The deprived would run in and tard scream at people then stun lock them to death, with greater trouble than the other three with crowds as (though this is a personal choice on his part) he does not use the horse and faces them on foot.

I see some problem with the damage sponges, but that has always been a problem and perhaps they have no way of making a harder game without it as of yet. It is still young in my heart, but this may be better than Dark Souls original in my opinion should it retain its quality through out at least the first half of the endeavor.

You could summon help for Ornstein and Smough, and summoning was a big touted thing in DS1. That'd completely ruin the fight and make it a cakewalk, but yeah, you could do it.

Just squaring off against the bosses isn't that difficult, it's just a step backwards for aggressive playstyles. The lack of rally, the way equipment weight shafts strength weapons, and every humanoid boss having the same tools to peel you off make them play out extremely conservatively. I don't hate learning attack patterns and safe-zones, but I hate realizing "one single poke with the longsword is safe, anything heavier is too slow" is the strat... again.

Crucible + Misbegotten is the worst of both worlds, as you get to play benny hill music while misbegotten is sitting at 5% but crucible's on your ass.
I have no idea how it's optional, but I guess if anyone runs head-first into it, it isn't actually a wall.
