Is this bait? I never knew or cared about any of the dark souls stories till I binged on some lore videos, and that was only after I completed all 3 of them. It's cool that lore masters put together all of the information, but I didn't play the souls games so I could be a youtube detective, analyzing healing item descriptions that reference in-lore-but-not-in-game characters for shrapnel of information. I came to use cool weapons while wearing cool armor to fight awesome bosses with a super solid combat system in incredibly well designed worlds with an awesome dark aesthetic. If you think half of Dark Souls fans could even tell you the story beyond "you're the chosen undead who is trying to end the world / rekindle the flame" you're wrong.

Don't get me wrong - once you dive in, DS lore is pretty sweet and it's crazy how well connected yet isolated the fragments of lore are in the series. Understanding the lore and world in turn makes the game even better, for sure, but most players got into the game for the gameplay and stopped there.
Given that in all of the games (aside from Sekiro if you want to count it) you play as some random schmuck on an impossible quest, not knowing what the hell is going on is part of the experience. A smelly undead who just got busted out of a dungeon isn't going to look at some trinket he found in a garbage pile and conclude that it's an artifact from a long dead culture and may have even belonged to the legendary figure Sneed Chuckson.

I've been out of the loop for a while, this just looks like "Dark Souls 4" What does this game do different from the souls games?
From what I've seen, mostly expanding on the verticality and platforming introduced by Sekiro and also the weapon arts from Dark Souls 3. From Software is pigeonholed; it's going to be a largely similar experience with a few shiny new things.

Horse riding. Kind of a Shadow of the Colossus kind of thing without the climbing... at the very least I haven't seen any climbing akin to Dragon's Dogma or Shadow of the Colossus.

Some new gameplay came out

I surprised that this forum isn't dunking on all the people who are crying about GameInformer posting "spoilers". I get that spoilers suck, but contextless footage that amounts to around 10 minutes are hardly spoilers. And if that qualifies as spoilers, then the shit datamined from the CNT leak would cause those cunts to neck themselves.

Gamers are such annoying twats these days. If you don't want things spoiled...why click on literally ANY VIDEO ABOUT THE GAME?

It looks like they either got rid of non fatal fall damage entirely or heavily reduced it which is cool. It was annoying in DS1-DS3 where you could survive getting hit by a sword swinging boss as big as a building but if you fell three feet you died instantly.

I've been religiously watching the released footage and haven't noticed any teleporting bosses and enemies which is also cool because the most recent Soulsborne games went absolutely overboard with that and it was so fucking annoying.

I'm hype

There's definitely still non lethal fall damage.

I got into DS recently with 3 and I believe I "get it" now... but as someone who abhors George Martin and his foe-edge I don't want to give him any of my shekels. What exactly is his involvement in this project, specifically story-wise? I'm not into his wakanda-tier swords and sorcery.

From what I've seen I think GRRM did very little than perhaps some lore for plot related characters characters. When the game was first announced people theorized it would go with celtic influences because of Martin's Irish and anglo ancestry, but instead it went full Wagner. So someone involved in making the story is a fan of germanic mythology.

It does not seem to have any similarities with A Song of Ice and Fire

I was interested initially because of its similarities to the Nibelungenlied, Wagner as you say. I just want to make sure the universe isn't "Amazon's LOTR" before I buy.

A good chunk of the Elden Ring community on Reddit and Steam collectively shit their pants because the minimum PC specs dropped (and soon removed on Steam). Admittedly the RAM requirement was a little high. For weeks and weeks and weeks people were wondering about the PC specs but were always reassured that the game would be able to run on a potato. But then the specs drop and all the sudden there's laments and copium huffing all over the place. Anyway, hollows gonna hollow.
