I'm gonna have to wait a few days before I can get my copy, so do you guys have any tips for newcomers?

Also, as someone who absolutely loves Breath Of The Wild, how do you think this game compares to it? What things does Elden Ring do better, worse, different, or about the same?

After running around Limgrave leveling up a bunch I just beat Margit on my first try using the dogs. My strategy was to get him to his second phase, and then immediately summon the dogs to harass him and serve as a distraction since that's when he goes hyper-aggressive. I'd recommend anyone struggling with him try it.

Edit - Also, wouldn't be a new game release without something like this:

If there were black hairstyles these idiots would be screeching about people using them for their white skinned characters. Also aren't black hairstyles digital blackface anyway?

There is way less reeeing if you don't include black hairstyles.

It's much harder at the start than any other souls game, so expect dying quite a bit. There are a lot of optional areas that have a nice amount of loot and a boss in them. Some can be found by following somewhat hidden paths, but others can only be found by using guiding statues in the overworld. They're hunchbacked and once activated, release a blue trail leading to their entrance.
Anyway, I prefer this game's horse riding, specially considering there are some fun you can have with jousting bosses, like the Tree Guardian or the Flying Dragon. But, I would say they're pretty different really.

I'm having not even having framerate issues, the world goes completely pitch black except occasional flashes (thank god i'm not epileptic), and i turn the definition down i get these bizarre rectangle shaped graphical glitches that I just cannot play the game with. It looks so fucked up.
I've never had huge bug problems with games on this level before to where the game is unplayable, but I guess it was inevitable for me to my turn to get major game bug problems.

I'm just gonna wait this out and keep farming in Stardew Valley. If this doesen't get fixed I'll just refund,

I actually had the same problems. I 'fixed' them by entering fullscreen mode and changing the resolution to be smaller than my screen, which caused the game screen to be surrounded by black bars, but it did stop.

Not sure if its better or worse but the fact you can loot things while being mounted is amazing. Found a place where there were 3 big herds of sheep and farmed them a few times to get bones for arrows, was nice not having to get off the mount every time to just loot.

Haven’t been able to get to the online part, which is a bummer. I really like dropping “nice view” and “crystal lizard” notes in Dark Souls. But I figure it’ll shake out in a day or so.

I went with Bandit this time, but I need to find a new weapon. Not loving the range. And it’s weird not having a kick move after playing so much Dark Souls.

I did find it hilarious, as well, that after the chargen doesn’t let you select Male or Female (it’s A & B or Bulky and Slender in the extended chargen menu), the very first cutscene has someone refer to your character as either “him“ or “her”. Trannies STILL BTFO.
I know there’s a kick weapon art.

I know there’s a kick weapon art.
The whip has it, not sure what else does though.

Big Edit:

So I found a place to get Blacksmithing stones (1) at the Limgrave Tunnels. Was finding them on the walls like other resources BUT it doesn't seem to respawn like other resources. Looking to see if the miners drop them. PS watch out for the Dragon!!!!

Edit 2: 9 stones but no drops from the miners yet.

It's also the weapon art for the bare fist. You can buy the weapon art from the merchant in Stormhill.

Edit 2: First level 4 Stones.
Speaking of mines, don't blindly open the chest in the dragon ruins after killing the lake dragon. You'll get transported to a mine on the ass end of Caelid full of hostile bug people. It happened to me when I had a fat rune wallet from dragonslaying. That mine had level 5 stones but those bugmen can eat a bag of dicks for all the mess they put me through with their infinite homing ejaculation attack.

Far more memorable than the same mimic enemy type used as a trapped chest since Dark Souls.

Indeed. I've been able to change my weapon to a Greatsword recently, and its stats are much better, the only thing I need to do now is upgrade it.

I honestly haven't seen a particularly good Ash yet. Maybe I'll use one anyway since I don't like my weapon's special attack.
Also, you can probably make one if you want to now, lol. But maybe something like Caestus could work as a blunt DEX weapon, no?
FYI weapon affinity application is separate from the ashes themseves, you just get the opportunity to change it when you apply one. The smithing blade thing items give you more affinity options (and the one you find early gives you the basic heavy/quality etc that you need to balance or favour physical stats).

But some ashes also provide a specific affinity without needing the correct blade, so nothing wrong with adding one just for that and not caring about the weapon art (maybe you can even override em with another ash and keep the first affinity? Idk)

Not sure if its a bug but the Kick WA does not use FP.

Got to play a little more today. After the first patch, my screen kept dying during a battle with beast man. Screen freezes and goes black when I have almost won, comes back on, LOL dead. Didn't have that issue before.

Buddy at work was also talking about a bug that would make groups of enemies invisible. Haven't encountered that, but he is further ahead than I am. Haven't even got the horse yet :[. Hope these get a hotfix before my weekend starts.

The overworld has grown on me, as past the intro area, the environments do begin to look genuinely unique and interesting, rather than the lock-stock and barrel open-world fantasy thing. Stuttering is fairly rare by this point, though I still from time to time can run into a good ten seconds straight of 10-fps and extreme chugging out of nowhere, then right back to right as rain.

I really hope some of the bosses allow me to actually play aggressively. Want to know how you fight Crucible Knight if you don't use a shield? You roll and counterattack exactly once, twice if you've evaded his big 4-hit combo. Except during phase 2, he gets the cool tail swipe - which also makes every single one of his attacks safe. So you only counterattack whenever he throws the tail out, and if he doesn't throw the tail out, you just stand there. Frequently in the fight, you will just be standing still while he circle-strafes you for five seconds, but there's no point in doing anything else. This makes him easy as piss, but my god is it fucking boring.

Not all of em do and some only cost FP if they succeed. I have a shield for magic with a spell barrier skill that also works as a normal parry for free for example.

...But I just got a Carian Retaliation ash that sounds like it does the same thing but also returns the spell as magic projectiles. Anyone know if it's really a direct upgrade? Or does it have a tighter window or something?

The person who made the decision to map crouch and dismount from Torrent to the left thumbstick needs to be put against the wall. I never sneak and it being mapped to an easily mis- clicked button is gonna be the cause of some future rage for me. Also I think in every horseback fight so far I've randomly dismounted which has caused lots of cheap deaths for me. All That could be completely solved if you could just clear the binding but you can't.
Edit: I'm using a series x controller which might have an extremely sensitive L3

I found a way to get around Margit for now, so I’ll go back to him later. This game has some incredible views - that bypass took me through several terrifying cliffs and then this amazing overlook. I even dropped a “praise the sun” at the top.

Someone was asking about spam/joke messages - there‘s a “pickle” option in Concepts, so I’ve left a few ”Try a pickle” or “Visions of pickle” messages. Hoping to see a few more. Several good “Why so many bloodstains?“ and “why so many jumping?” messages as well.

Also, for the first time playing a Soulsborne game I actually dropped my own summon sign and went to help people with the two first mini-dungeons, and that was super-fun.

The Ashes of War can also adjust the scaling. Like one of the first ones you find can adjust the scaling to a "Quality" build for the weapon.

On another note just found a whip and the claw weapons. I wonder how they do in this version of the game.

Also has anyone found a Blunt dex weapon yet?
Pretty sure the flails are blunt dex.
