Do I look like a man with a plan to you? All I know is heavy armor and a melee weapon, so a fair bit of Endurance, but aside from that no clue on specific weapon or even if I'll use a shield. Consider that open-ended based on suggestions.
Yea just got Vigor to 25 and Endurance till you get at least a medium load and then Str till 66. There is the plain old Greatsword that has been a tried and true weapons through all Dark Souls. Its fairly early in Caelid aka Trypophobia Hell. Just follow the road out of Limgrave going west, jump over the fire wall and keep going till you find a town. Use the Site of Grace then keep on following the road, eventually you will see the Horror T-Rex looking hounds and the wreck of the Carriage, the greatsword is in the Carriage. If you go around and keep going west another Site of Grace is on the road west of the carriage, I suggest going there and coming in from the west. Sneak up to the carriage and open it up and get the tried and true Greatsword aka Guts Sword.

Gotcha. Any suggestions for a more maneuverable weapon and a shield to go with it? Do I need to worry about specific damage types for enemies? Someone mentioned Strike, as if necessary for heavily armored foes, but is there something else to it as well?

The Lordsworn's Straight Sword or a Mace to go with the Shield. The Lordsworn SS gives you a piercing option if you use R2 and Mace is Strike Damage.

No that pretty much it. Strike damage is good against heavily armored enemies while Pierce damage is good against moderately armored foes and scaly creatures like dragons. Slash damage is good against light armored/unarmored enemies and Standard damage just doesn't fit into any of the previous categories, the Guts Greatsword does Standard damage for instance.

I found what looks like a strong incantation seal that's mentioned literally nowhere in any wikis or articles, just one Reddit posts calling it a rumour.
Gives me hope there's more good Faith gear out there since the scythe is starting to drop off in power and I can't find any fucking somber stone[6]s.

I'm trying to avoid wikis anyway so it's cool everyone else is clueless too I guess.

I don't think it's flawless, hell after O&S the game suffers a pretty steep downturn in quality but it nails a bunch of things the following games don't, mainly exploration and having the feeling of it being a unique world. I can remember every single area in DS1 because they're all pretty drastically different. You have a dingy city, a poisonous swamp, a dusky forest, a crystal covered library, a trap filled fortress, etc. For DS2 the only thing that comes to mind is the same boring caves over and over, for DS3 the same kind of thing only outside of Irithyl it's run down shanty towns and cemeteries, for Bloodborne it's either the same black brick streets or niggerman central which suck because the enemies in those areas are annoying as fuck.

The second thing is DS1 not giving you teleporting until like 75% of the way through the game makes the world feel like a real place you have to pay attention to. In DS2 onward it feels like a bunch of levels with a few little optional paths because you can just warp wherever from the beginning. I think the open world in ER actually alleviates this somewhat since even if you're warping all over the place there's so much ground to cover it doesn't feel like you're just warping between hallways. I still wish they could have put in some crazy shortcut shenannigans in ER like DS1 had but I understand that's insanely hard to do in an open world.
Playing 2 and 3 I theorised that From builds the map as basically PVP arenas they can use to fuck around in the office while building up gear/combat, then stitches together the world as almost an afterthought. 3 really felt that way but 2 is where they admitted running out of time which is why areas don't even connect logically.

But in Elden Ring they clearly prioritised the world first so instead of merely enemies fit around the PVP meta with a couple savage bosses, their guideline is making just about every fight a challenge for the devs themselves. It's not a bad way to do things but damn From needs to hire a couple noobs

3 days after the game was released, NexusMods has a bunch of mods released
mostly reshade stuff and no slooty mods yet

Kind of having regrets not going my traditional tank-pure strength route like I usually do. Mostly faith based and having a hard time finding an incantation that takes less than 5 minutes to wind up and does half decent damage, or a faith scaling weapon.

Still a blast overall though, 15 hours in and haven't best Margit yet, am I doing it right?

There is a lightning bolt one that is pretty fast but a little steep on the FP cost. Honestly thinking the winged scythe is not as great as people are making it out to be until maybe later. It uses Somber stones to upgrade, it can't use Ashe, and it can't be buffed with an incantation. I am thinking your better off picking whatever weapon you like and just adding a Faith Ashe to it.

I loved it initially since my previous weapon had a shit moveset and I had enough stones to get it to +4 as soon as I started using it but now I'm being cockblocked by guys with high holy resist so I'm trying to decide on a secondary weapon. Or maybe even rebirthing but I don't want to look up builds.

There's a faster casting talisman I think I found in either Caelid or the Academy somewhere that's pretty much mandatory.

Is there anything faster than grinding the midgets that drop 1000 each for souls in the game

Dunno if it's faster but the entrance of Fort Forgoth south of there where you get a medallion half has strong bats then ghosts upstairs and you can pretty much unleash Knight Oleg in there and he'll clean em out himself for like 20k a run, plus they drop decent rune items sometimes.
Hypothetically if you stick to the bats you could basically AFK farm while you eat if you keep bonfiring and summoning Oleg.

I see they simplified magic to two basic types, how does a dual sorcery/incantation build play? I played an Omni magic build in DS3 and other than squishiness it was an absolute blast

I did noticed the Spells off of "D" required intel and Faith and the Dragon spells require Astral stats so not sure at this point. May have to wait a month or so for more info on that.

No worries, I usually wait for games to go on sale and for them to get patched before buying.

Man, it's amazing how much easier Godrick the Grafted was than Margit... I'm not sure if Margit was working for him, but he should have beat him up and took the great rune himself, wouldn't have been an issue.

Finally got that stone and I like the winged scythe again after upgrading and realising it also has bleed.

Also noticed I've been carrying a better seal (not the one I mentioned, I don't have the 40 faith yet) since Stormveil which boosts dark incants, and magic finally feels powerful now. Roasted the Full-Grown Fellstar Beast no problem.

Ehh I gave up on my faith build will try later when more is known about the game. Hoping there is a Faith weapon with Standard damage or Strike down the line. Just think that Scythe is meh due to not being able to Ashe/Incant it.

Talking about scary stuff: I stumbled over an elevator that was bringing me to the "underworld" (?). There I was near a river which was going down into a tunnel and clinging to the wall over that tunnel entry there were fucking giant ants. Jesus Christ they are plain and simply nightmare fuel and really gave me a bad stomach feeling, especially when they seemingly started to appear out of thin air when you went further down the tunnel.
I never really understood how one can be scared of spiders in video games, but these things sure made me understand it.
Have fun!

So tested out the Farum GreatBridge Farm and see if you can do it from the get go:
So you pick up the Lordsworn's Greatsword from the Gate Ruin Carriage, you just need 16 Str/10 Dex to wield it. It has enough punch to stagger and after 4 combo's lets you critical them. Usually I need the 4 hits for the stagger, critical and then a few more to finish. Was using no Ashe or Upgrades just the plain ole sword.

The Vagabond, Warrior, Samurai, Prisoner and Confessor can right out the gate start farming the little black guys. Prophet can also but not sure if 8 Endurance is enough to maintain the necessary pressure.

The other starting Classes just need a few points and they are good to go. The worst is the Astrologist needing 3 into Strength. Just some FYI if people are wanting to try out other things....

Took me a while to beat Margit. He's a pain the in the ass for melee builds. I spent a lot of time exploring and getting upgrade materials. Margits shackle and fire resin were a big help to me.

Agreed, get a shield and invest in endurance. Dodge rolling is heavily punished this time around.
Any recommendations for a strength weapon for early use? I’m hewing towards strength but I don’t have the endurance to safely use an ultra greatsword with a shield.
