I have said in the past the soul games except bloodbornes world have not given me something to stick to.
Elden Ring got me. I’m fucking addicted. I have played through once already am at level 129 and new game + is just as fun. This game really is the tits.
The wild thing is that if the past is any indication it's going to get even better. Historically the best Souls content has been DLC.

Id love to see a continuation of the frenzied flame ending and possibly some more Radagon stuff, we know too little about this nigga and if he was even his own person to begin with. A Miquella boss fight would be cool as well.

Madness meter is brutal in this game geez it basically Frenzy from Bloodborne except it can be used in PVP.

I'm about 30 hours into the game, I had just spent about 2 of those fighting Radahn repeatedly until I finally killed his stupid ass.
That shit legitimately gave me a headache.

So just a warning because the game doesn’t tell you this. Siding with Sellen on her questline locks you out of respeccing unless I am missing something.

Nah it's cool if you reload you find that the respeccing girl is back

And Sellen is now one of the stone mask ball abominations that still recognizes you but can barely speak.

The translation is shit though so I can't really figure out why it happened or who did that to her or if it happened to herself because of the thing she was chasing or what.

Well, Vyke didn't and won't invade me, so I guess that questline's in the can. I hopped over to my original dude and tried it out, and he showed up no problem. Kindof fucking stupid, and the one legitimate gripe I have here - is this a bug? Is this a feature? Did I complete some step of some quest that somehow causes him not to invade?

The dragon in the plateau also apparently causes a very specific issue with my gpu that causes it to throw an exception and crash the game. I hope they do get to fixing those problems up now that the launch has been a roaring success.

General Radahn has got to be the shittiest Fromsoft gimmick boss to date my God.
Updoot, beat him but still not a fan of this boss. It seems very rng based and a successful attempt more heavily depends on him not spamming on hit magic attacks than it does on skill.

Ok I just reloaded and she is still there, but it sounds like you are a bit farther in the quest than me so maybe I need to trigger something.

Faith gets niftier tools in the later game, but you get to sit looking at all the sorceries you're not going to be able to use for a lot of the midgame. I wasn't sure if I had screwed up some quests so I did a complete reroll, and have been rolling with a deep-faith punching-daggers cipher + erdtree bow build. High damage, glass cannon, and boy do you really feel how much stagger was trivializing some bosses.

But you're gonna be spamming lightning bolt, throwing rocks, and godflame splurts for a good long while in the midgame, without a lot of weapon options; I've seen like 6 or 7 int-str/dex/etc items, and only a small handful of faith/x. A lot of incantation space is again getting sucked up by buff spells, although there are some real, absolute trash abilities taking up real estate, too.
I have been rolling with faith but I am not super far in the game, just killed godrick and I am getting ready to explore the academy/finish the manor. The cipher seems interesting but the damage is really low, does it get better when upgraded?
I also leveled str to like 17 or 18 to be able to use some weapons and left dex at around 14, after reading through this thread I believe I will be pumping dex.

Try exhausting all her dialogue and maybe purchasing all her spells if it lets you. I remember the respec lady reappearing after I reloaded the area.

it does exclusively holy damage so it is probably only good against skeletons and other undead fellas, maybe save it for catacomb exploring if you want to use it.
Dex is super good in this game compared to strength based weapons from my experience.
I'll take Radahn over the God Devouring Snakes Gimmick.
I really liked this fight, he was like Yhorm but cool and badass

On paper it's really cool. When I think about just my final time of beating him, I see it as a decent spectacle. But holy shit was learning it infuriating. In the end it's not even super hard, just really annoying.

Currently on Fire Giant, who is pretty annoying. Feels like a lot like an end-game DPS check. Like "hey before you go beat the game make sure you've done enough content!" which I find pretty annoying.

My favourite boss fight so far is probably Rykard. Visually amazing and the bit with you being given a specifc weapon for the fight is super cool. The legacy dungeon leading up to it is meh, but the fight is pretty awesome.

When i heard "open world " and "crafting" i inmediatly lost all interest. I imagine the very cleverly designed interconnected dungeons are not present in the same way as in DS1 and DS3?
It’s got that and then some. Stormveil Castle which is in the first part of the game is, in my opinion, larger and more complex in every way than DS3’s Lothric Castle. Leyndell > The Ringed City and Earthern Pit areas.
ER has something called legacy dungeons which is a term for what’s really the old school content where you can’t ride your horse to. The land itself is very interconnected, if you really wanted and had loads of time to do it you could probably attempt to do a no-fast travel run.

Cipher is there prettymuch for if you're going straight faith. It scales with faith and faith alone, so early on other weapons taking from dex / str will generally be higher. Most of its damage also comes when it's in the two-handed mode, but at that point - yeah, with high faith, it does a lot of damage. Provided that the enemy isn't strong against holy damage, anyways; it barely scratches holy-resistant enemies.

There's not a lot of options out there that are amazing with straight faith, really, since I guess the assumption is that your spells will be gas. But there are a lot of good options for mixing it up - plenty of faith-str, faith-quality, faith-int, and faith-dex items; the holy-damage bow plus holy arrows can delete stuff at range even with lower dex pretty easily, not that bows without access to barrage are anything but clunky tools.

The one nice thing about God Devouring Snake is that if you have the mimic tear, its a lot easier. Once I got that, it was gravy.

Some of the bosses where From Soft was just like, "Here's a couple bosses just dropped in a room" to me are the most frustrating. They aren't fun, and they tend to be jank as fuck. Godskin Duo for me has been maddening.
