I need to start focusing more on the main story else I am never gonna finish, I have that thing where I try to do everything in an area before facing the main bosses. I'm either gonna end up burning out or get bored at this rate. Just today I killed radahn and now getting ready to explore nokron
In other news I tried the winged scythe only to go back to the reliable longsword.

TBQH I'm already burnt out. The crypts are a joke and just copy/paste and they re-use the same bosses too many times. There's the fog dragon and it's the same exact dragon fight you've had twice before. The dragon looks a little different but the pattern is basically the same. The only difference is the health on the dragon. That's it. Compare this to The Asylum Demon from Dark Souls 1. First fight is a tutorial and that's fine. 2nd time is optional and a great "Surprise, motherfucker!" moment. That 2nd OPTIONAL time is fun and presents a good challenge to the player as if the devs are provoking you "Oh, you thought he was easy before? Here he is again and he hits even harder and has more health." Then the 3rd time you fight him is different enough, he does have a new attack and the environment you fight him in presents a new challenge. Compare that to the dragons and it's the Same. Exact. Fight. Every. Single. Time. The one exception is the dragon fight on the bridge and the fucking thing can fly away and get stuck on level geometry. INB4 "Actually, all the dragon fights are optional." Fuck you. No excuses.

There's a lot of things I love about Elden Ring so I don't dislike it the same way as Sekiro. But there's a lot of things I dislike. I barely ever used the crafting system. I used it to make some poison darts and that was it. Using Great Runes is either just not explained or very poorly explained where I guarantee you that a majority of people just looked up what they are, what they do and how to use them. I don't like areas being locked off until you do blank and blank is not fully explained for the most part. Killing a boss to get a great rune to proceed is fine but where do you find this great rune boss? How about some kind of direction? I also dislike how to get infinite smithing stones to upgrade your shit. Every. Previous. Souls. Game. Just allowed you to find a blacksmith and boom, you can buy the materials to upgrade your shit. Some of those materials might be offered by specific black smiths but once you find them, you warp to them, and boom there you go. NOT IN ELDEN RING! No, no, no, no, sir. Not allowed. You can find a decent number of smithing stones while exploring but if you need to level up your shit, fuck you, you have to go to a specific crypt, beat the boss, and now finally you are given the privlege of buying smithing stones but ONLY smithing stone tier 1 or whatever. If you want Smithing Stones tier 2 and so on, you have to go to a specific crypt, beat the boss and there ya' go. Fuck you.

I also dislike that you can't buy smithing stones and level up your shit from the same vendor. It's just a bit of extra annoyance. Oh no, you need 1-2 more stones, now I have to walk away, go back to the hag, buy those stones or pop some runes to afford the stones and the upgrade, and now I go back to the black smith and level up. THEY FIGURED OUT THIS PROBLEM IN FUCKING DARK SOULS 1! FUCKING DARK SOULS !! Make it the same vendor that can do both things and you reduce tedium. This isn't hard.

Then there's bosses and certain enemy types that are unnecessarily tanky or just keep attacking with very few attacks that you can read and you know for a fact "Okay, I dodge then I can safely heal or get an attack in." This makes me absolutely yearn for Artorias and the Pontif from Souls 3. Or fucking Kalameet from DS 1. I loved the Kalameet fight and that felt fair.

Then there's the environments you fight bosses in and they just were not designed for that environment. How many times have you seen a giant enemy type get stuck? I almost never saw that happen in the other Souls games. Then there's bullshit that blocks you in or obstructs your view and I'm not even talking about the MargIT fight there's others that are more egregious.

I feel like a lot of the bosses that just keep attacking was designed specifically to spite two-hand strength players and also (my hypothesis) that this was created as a spectacle for streamers. That's what I think especially regarding Radahn.

Overall: I like it but I have issues with it. So much so that I don't believe I will be purchasing any DLC because -we all know it- it's just going to have more insanely difficult bosses that endlessly keep attacking and I'm sick of that.

ER tried to fix the open world formula by rewarding you with unique stuff for completing side activities but it accidentally made everything worse because now you HAVE TO do them all, unless you want to miss out on some potentially epic stuff.

Horse fights are dull because its combat system is even less complex than combat on foot. Bosses especially don't know how to deal with your speed and you are stuck doing drivebys and pressing light attack twice, rinse and repeat. This wouldn't be a problem if so many open world bosses weren't so gigantic and didn't dish out such insane damage on every hit, if you want to fight them on foot which you always can you're going to get oneshotted by an attack that you didn't see because the dragon was too big.

In addition to your smithing stone complaints they really should have just been giving you weapons already upgraded to whatever tier is adequate for a specific point in the game, This is something they've been overlooking since day 1, finding a new weapon and just forgetting it exists because you have to invest increasingly more time to just use it is such a simple to fix problem that i have no idea how they keep fucking this up.

The problem with this game is the same one as any other open world, its just too big. Its so big they they had to do a lot of halfassed dungeons instead of a few good ones. Its so big that they had to recycle bosses and enemies. So big that they simply didn't have time to fully realize main dungeons and to balance everything properly. Open world games are shit by design, and whatever good qualities they might have are just not worth it. Yes, the view from behind the Godfreys castle on the Lucania lake was cool, but it can never be cool enough to justify then having to fill this entire area with busywork.

Despite all this bitching im still having a pretty good time overall.

Oh yeah, the horse fights. They're garbage. You know what would be cool? Being able to do that charge and dismount enemies while on the horse. Or, being able to use both hands at the same time. Or fucking anything. As soon as I fight a boss that can't be cheesed by just doing drive-by's and getting one or two slashes I just dismount, whale on the boss, and get back on the horse if the boss runs away and re-positions such as the dragons.

I still like the game too but there are issues. In hindsight, I'm glad they went with a different name which means a Dark Souls 4 can return to more traditional game design.

Edit: I'm in the end game. I fucked up but as I said I'm pretty burnt out on the game. And what do ya' know? You fight ANOTHER. FUCKING. DRAGON. And the pattern is pretty much exactly the same as the rest of the dragons.

FROM lost their way.

Just quit now, once you get to Crumbling Farum Azula there are 3 more dragons to fight with no Feet lock ons....

Wait so you fight dragons the intended way of mixing up foot and horse combat and are complaining you can't fight them in the more boring way?

The only horse fight I really enjoyed was fighting against the Fallen Star beast (oddly another fight people mostly dislike), where it was fun being a matador and using strong attack to break its posture.

Also, am I the only who found the last bosses to be underwhelming?

Fire Giant has tons of hp and is more of a slog than a fight. His second stage is trivial and just boring.
Malekith was hardest but is just completely unfun and the culmination of the worse trends of bosses in the game (too big, too agile, constant aoe attacks).
Odin killed me more than anyone afterwards and was just spamming one/two hit spells. The worse was the holy shield that insta-kills you if you attack, break it and don't immediately dodge. So basically fuck you for physical attackers.
Godwin comes out of nowhere and is trivial if you use the Mimic to divert his aggro.
The final bosses are easy, very low damage and lots of time to take your breath. Finished both on first try (and probably would have finished them without mimic without too much of a problem). It's like those 3 are classic Dark Souls bosses that you cheese because you think it will be the bullshit you faced the entire game.

I didn't have any problem with the star beasts but i fought all those on foot maybe that was why

I'm about as far into the game as I think I'm gonna make it now without using a guide. Beat all the bosses available to me as far as I can tell and I'm currently trying to work out how the cock in hell you access the last shaded-out area of the map to the north-east of Liurna across the broken down bridge. I just spent the last 3hrs beating the Misbegotten/Crucible Knight combo thinking that it might trigger a cutscene or something that opens that section of the world to me but what I got was an old man telling me to come back "when the stars align".

Hint: There is a castle in the northwest corner of the lake area.

You need to start a quest to access that area.
Here's how to do it:
First you need to go to the Raya Lucaria Manor. It's at the very top of Liurnia and you reach it through the land portion in the West.
It connects to 3 towers, the middle one has the quest giver. But to get the quest in the first place, you need to talk to Rogier and do his quest. He's in the balcony of the Round Table. Following both of their quests will lead you to get in that area.

I agree with the smithing stones stuff, I got to volcano manor and the mountain area and was able to miss the bell bearing that gives you smithing stones, despite having explored liurnia quite a bit, it is really out of the way.
A big annoyance I am having is regarding weapons, I can't find one I like (except longswords) or one that scales with faith and doesn't require above 20 str/dex, meanwhile I found dozens of int scaling weapons; I was also able to find so many staves while totally missing TWO seals in places I already explored, I'm starting to give up and using the wiki to find faith stuff.
Speaking of, one of the seals I missed was on a room of stormveil castle I had totally missed, so I went back and looked for it, thinking it was some small room I had overlooked and I was blown away to find out there was a whole section of the castle I didn't explore, thought that would lead me to the lift I hadn't activated yet but nope. Once I was done with that I found out I was missing even more stuff in stormveil, god damn a lot of love went to that dungeon didn't it? Raya lucaria academy felt a lot shorter and the shortcuts/hidden paths seemed a lot more obvious

Made it to the Godskin Duo. 3rd attempt I got rid of one of them (the Mr. Fantastic stretchy faggot). Have 3 flasks left. Thinking "Okay, I have a decent chance." Fat faggot brings him right back.

I had a profound "Fuck this" moment and quit the game.

Oh, you're one of those guys who thinks FROM is the absolute best developer, never have made any mistakes ever, everything they do is perfect, and anyone who complains just needs to git gud at vidya games.
I think they balanced the game around all the new features they added and emphasised in the tutorial and marketing and I wasn't playing with self-imposed restrictions on my first run so I didn't get frustrated by jumping on every single goomba and feel the need to moan endlessly since day one, no. But my criticisms are in the thread.

Whoever decided that literally every endgame boss should have a bunch of AoE, I hope they get hit by a truck. In minecraft.

So no one is allowed to voice criticisms except for you? Because you're a special kind of faggot, right?
