Elden Beast got my head all aflutter with possible connections to Sekiro. Like is this guy the divine dragon in some more primordial form or what? Really cool last boss fight imo and made up for a lot of the bullshit in the endgame.
Similar to the Moon Presence from Bloodborne as well. This sudden animalistic godlike incarnation of a final boss who appears out of nowhere.

Man I keep having the problem of playing through the game, putting in a good number of hours, and then going "boy, I wonder how a game played as THIS kind of character would look", and then going off and making a new one. That to me shows the depths of the game, where I really want to go back to it differently, and never getting bored.

It kind of does tell you if you've beaten a boss or not. Can't fast travel in caves or crypts you haven't beaten the boss of.
Actually, no. You CAN fast travel to crypts and caves.

Also, after 10 fucking hours of on and off playing, experimenting, trying to summon, trying the mimic ashes, trying different weapons, summoning human players that are somehow worse than the A.I. (seriously, every single time I summoned a person they would get annihilated in seconds against Maliketh. But I finally figured out the fucking boss. Used the Uchigitana, leveled it all the way up, used a greatshield during phase 1, use a mimic just to get the fight over with asap, phase 2 against Maliketh I two-hand the weapon. And turns out fuckface is exposed when he walks up to you, does a slow overhead or slash attack, and you can roll right up to his dick and slash away. He's still bullshit, still a terrible boss fight, still a sign that FROM has lost their way, and @Gimmick Account is an asshole who can gargle my giant fucking nuts because I fucking beat the boss by 2-handing the motherfucker.

The hardest fucking boss of any of these fucking games and I fucking got him.

Now I am going to sleep.

i unironically had more trouble with the tree sentinel outside who i ended up killing through the door after the easy fight with maliketh (easy boss)
Tree Sentinel is easy, just stay on his left side with the shield to avoid his club and you're golden.

Really loving the spellblade playstyle - haven't enjoyed it this much since I got two of those sword catalysts in DS2, ha. They were fun times...

Looking at the Sword of Night and Flame, but it feels as if I'd be spreading myself too thin between FTH, ARC and INT to make good use of it. Anyone wielding this thing?

The curved greatsword you get from that magma dragon on your way up to Altus Plateau seems like it’d be a decent strength/faith weapon with some upgrades. Looks like strength/faith as a build path gets gated until mid/lategame the way magic usually did in the other soulsbournes. Now I have to find another larval tear.

I'm near the end, would still say it's a 8/10 but goddamn is it bullshit how everything can pretty much one shot you even at level 125. At least in the previous games it felt like it was my fault for not putting points into health.
Melee attacks aren't so bad but in the later half of the game it seems like every boss has a magic beam/meteor attack with a massive AOE that can one shot you even with max vigor. I get why that's a thing (prepare to die) but it's still really obnoxious especially when they have basically no health left and then that hits you.

Also there's a boss in animu Souls clone Code Vein called the Gilded Knight that is extremely obnoxious for melee builds because every twenty seconds or so he explodes in a massive AOE that either one or two shots you if you're in melee range and it doesn't have a great tell when it's about to occur. I noticed this time around From borrowed that move for at least five bosses.

The damage resistance talismans are prettymuch necessary if you want to keep the fast roll, and if you mix them with medium or heavy armor, boss damage becomes a lot more incremental.

To add to this:
Elden Beast is even MORE bullshit than what I described. The sparkly orbs have such a high duration, that in the meantime he can cast such a combination of techniques that there is no chance to get out there alive (at least I don‘t see any). The most problematic one was: Sparkly orbs, shooting stars and basically any other attack. You literally can‘t have enough stamina to outrun or dodge all of this and at the latest when you are out of stamina it‘s game over. Especially painful is this combination, because for the shooting stars you need to run in one direction, optimally when you disabled lock-on. That way you lose your orientation where the beast is (that your whole screen lights up in yellow sparkles doesn‘t help too), so even if you make it out of the shooting stars, the moment when you found the beast again it is already too late.
Oh and do you know that it also has a grep attack? Me neither, until it killed me with it twice.

However there is a happy end to this: after roughly an eternity (and so many tries that Radagon was reduced to a mere inconvenience) I was finally able to beat it. But this was all due to RNGesus. This fight must be one of the worst designed boss fights From came up with, if you just rely on melee without any kind of support (summons, ghosts).

Not sure if I will go up against Malenia. Saw her second phase once, but the first phase is so tedious, due to how long you sometimes have to wait for openings and her self-heal.
Did we fight the same boss? You can avoid almost all of elden beasts' moves by sprinting. the sparkly homing orb is dodged by turning left and right because it turns slow.
the shooting stars can be dodged by running in like any direction as long as you don't do a 180. Rather than bullshit I find elden beast to be an incredible spectacle, if not somewhat easy.
