The damage on the comet and the sword were both lowered, though not to that dramatic of a point. They now give the boss a chance to at least tap you, as far as I can tell, which presumably causes ten seconds of panic rolls from the sorts of people who weren't used to actually seeing any boss attacks.

So the 'safe' way to deal with it is to use a shield for the entirety of the first slash, buffer two rolls towards the boss's left (usually your forward-right) for the second slash, and then to keep the stick tilted forward-right and slowly rotate it down to backwards-right for the third slash without dodging or running. It's very precise movement, and the buffering timing to get the rolls correct is a pain, but it will at least always keep you from getting killed outright.

You also have to conceptualize the boss as an endurance fight with a deceptively small health pool that is in reality a lot bigger than it looks. You can stuff about half of her attacks in either phase if you can learn the tells, and depending on the weapon speed can medium/fast roll out of attacking some that can't be stuffed.
I sometimes managed to dodge it but if you are too close when she starts the move, by the time you realize it is already too late. Having a summon is problematic since it eats a lot of hits but also gives you plenty of breathing room, maybe a ranged summon can work so you can aggro her far away but if you fuck up once then it's over.

Would people recommend the mage or prisoner for an int build, and what are good weapons early game, other than moonveil, that are comperable to the winged scythe in utility for it?

Double this actually. I'm still working on my Melee Faith first character, but I decided to start an Astrologer last night and I'm having a blast with it. I know Prisoner seems like the spellblade starter, but I'm not having too much problem keeping up the damage with a decent rapier and shield.

Pick astrologer, it starts with better sorceries.
best catalyst early game:
take the trapped chest in the burnt ruins, leave Sellia. go to the nearby ruins and get the meteorite staff (and rock sling, both require 18 INT).
if you don't want to use the meteorite staff, another early game one is the demi-human staff.
For melee, I highly suggest the carian slicer sorcery you get from giving the turtle pope or Sellen a scroll you find (south of agheel lake south, where the noble sorcerers snipe at you.)
For a back-up melee that is not moonveil you can use the carian knights sword because it looks cool and does magic damage. (found in west of liurnia, above the erdtree in a big troll-drawn carraige)
Rogier also gives you a +8 magic rapier after you kill Godrick.
Edit:
I just want to say that as a sorcerer you should be using melee as little as possible. If you want to do pure ranged, early game you want a maximum of 2-3 crimson flasks and by the end of the game you'll probably end up with 5, everything else is cerulean.
your goals are to take out enemies before they can reach you and using footwork to make enough space between the ones that do to give you opportunities to attack.

Poor Rogier. Meant well but was in way over his head.

I thought about putting the game down until a dlc comes out because fuck this boss, but then I've seen some youtube video of a guy dual wielding katans beating some boss and it got me thinking: What if I dual-wield bleed imbued long swords against Malenia?

The answer is that she melts like butter. Well, not that extreme, but you can chunk her first phase HP by half pretty easily, though you are still dependent on Mimic not being braindead, dodging her one hit kill attacks, and the second phase is filled with even more bullshit attacks with the plus of her not being reachable most of the time. It's still a shit boss fight because of bullshit mechanics, one/two hit kills (it's basically an RNG roll you don't get a string of BS attacks) and completely dependent on using bleed, which is a primarily dex focused, so fuck you str builds, and fuck you harder shield users. You really do need the dodge ashes since otherwise you are fucked in the second phase.

Someone please spoil me on this, because it's genuinely bothering me.
In the round table hold, the door at the back finally opened. The fucking fingers are actually unsettling me to the point of not wanting to even get fucking close to them. Is there anything that I'm missing by being a gigantic pussy?

trade boss souls

To the fingers?

I legitimately don't know what's wrong with me. I had a similar problem in Bloodborne with the priest head spiders. Just base instincts of "FUCK THAT SHIT" going rampant.
boss souls are traded with the old codger next to them. You can also buy boss armor from her.
You should go and touch the fingers, they are really sweet :) we wouldn't do a thing to hurt you
very rude to be so afraid of the two fingers! you should go up and touch them :)

6/10
216 hours in, it's way too easy, if you just play the game with the upgrades.
PVP is embaressing everyone just spams weapon skills without sense.
Worst of all is that the bosses seem to be tuned to a Bloodborne character, but we don't have the quickstep/dash.
So it's usually easier to just cheese the bosses, what a fucking waste of a game...

I think the main reason sorcery is so powerful in this game is due to the fact you have too many tools, aka Non-Magic Damage type spells. In Dark Souls series if you ran into an enemy resistant to Magic Damage you had to figure out some way to deal with them. In Elden Ring you just either switch to Rock Throw or some Ice Spell.

Should talk to her anyway after getting a second Rune to get a Talisman slot.

Except for the Ashes of War Quickstep and Bloodhound Step.....

I get that so often, it's not like Bloodborne, it's extremely unreliable, it makes you jump way too far and gives barely enough Iframes to make it worth of a a fucking "ash of war" (which I hate)
Elden Ring hardly has any interesting weapons. From Software went around 16 steps back with their "open world"

They're legitimately friendly, they won't hurt you. I had the same instinct, but you never have to worry about them doing anything to you.

Really sad how fromsoft nerfed Radhan into the ground. A lot of peoples most memorable fight in the game. Pretty sad when Darksydephil can beat him on his first try. Feelsbadman
Seriously? He was an extreme challenge in the unpatched game. When I beat him only 3.6% of all players had his trophy. From is listening to idiots on reddit which is exactly what I feared would happen when Elden Ring started getting absurdly popular.

Tried to make a colossal weapon character, but it is just so unfun. I usually play unlocked and I'm missing giant rats with r1s.
I had to start spamming crouch attacks with the zweihander because all the other attacks are so slow and unfun and then I realized I was just using a worse spear.
How do people that go pure strength with colossal weapons play?
It seems really unfun and not satisfying to even land hits because they stagger so rarely.

I honestly don't think anything past some of the lighter greatswords are viable. Most enemies and bosses are extremely fast and have at a bare minimum 6-8 hit combos. Strength builds got fucked hard in this game.

Hearing its the crouch pokes and jumping attacks for those weapons.
