@Wodanaz can't quote but:
So you're telling me that

The Dung Eater slapping corpses with the seedbed curse to stop them from returning to the Erdtree is actually saving their soul from being eventually harvested by some space god?

Guy's still a prick but that's a funny accidental good deed he's got going there.
I'm not sure since I've only done Ranni's ending and didn't do his quest yet but from his dialogue,
I think he was shunned by people for some reason, they hated him. It might have been justified if he was always a shit eating rapist, but he just wants revenge for how he was treated. It might have something to do with the omen babies. The sigil on the dung eater armor looks like the omen and Mohg was tormented by spirits or something.

Tbh the only real problem I had with Radhan was his arrows that need to be almost frame perfect dodges to not eat shit, otherwise I just let my allies do all the work while I just watched and looked for summon signs to respawn them if they ate shit

The wind-up is slow, even though the attacks itself are fast.
There's little to no stagger.
The range is deceptively shorter than it looks.
Also you're not a Belmont.

Also I'm happy that everyone agrees that endgame is so fucking shit. What the hell is the point of a tank build if you have to tank 30 hits - two of which can kill you?

I don't know if I'm just stupid, but I've pretty much used nothing but the lightning spear for most of the game (as soon as I got it). I even changed to the gravel seal just to power it up. Maybe I should have experimented with the other spells beyond 'this takes too much FP'. I do wish honed bolt worked more like it seems it should, seems like it should track despite obstacles but acts more like an invisible projectile.

I only ever use heal for... healing, and occasionally the frenzied eye bolt when I need more range. I do keep several high level spells memorized just so my mimic goes ham on minibosses, I keep the other hand with an arrowless bow so it does nothing but constant incantations which is fun.
The trick to endgame spells is less doing damage and more doing stagger and then hitting the boss's weakpoint with your fuckoff laser/idfktheincantionequivalent...eyebeams? So just spam ROCK over and over, if you need to. The problem is getting 70 DEX for capped cast time - Radagon's Icon apparently gives 30 DEX for cast speed purposes tho.

Also healing from incantation isn't nerfed by the Malenia's Rune, so that's nice.

I think a lot of the tards white knighting FROM either summoned their equally autistic buddies to help them or had some equally busted magic build. A friend of mine went with a magic build and beat Margit on his 2nd attempt.
Even tho magic is busted, and I don't feel bad about it because of how bullshit some enemies are, magic is not OP and not really useful for Malenia. The only useful spell against her is the Adula frost blade.

I don't begrudge people for using magic. Just don't be a faggot and declare the game is easy or people are just bad at the game because you (not specifically you, you know what I mean) cheesed a boss.

My first run was with a mag/dex build and I ended up mainly spamming transient moonlight and various carian spells (carian slicer basically turns you into a blender. too bad no stagger though). I dunno how it is now with the buffs, but general spellcasting felt too slow to effectively use in combat, and my melee attacks with Moonveil would still deal something like 25% more damage than a fully charged Loretta's Greatbow on a +10 carian regal scepter. I ended up mainly using spells to countersnipe cunts at extreme ranges.

Important info for you for future playthroughs / horse sections with annoying attacks:
You get like 2 full seconds of invincibility frames when you dismount torrent while standing still.
Also the piles of weapons can block the homing shots.
Also, you can just 2h a shield and block to tank damage.
The only useful spell against her is the Adula frost blade.
Not entirely true. Phase 1 can be cheesed by spamming rock sling from long range and you can use comet azur on her during that giant flower attack in phase 2.

So what are exactly the Lands Between? The name make it sound more like a place between world rather than a world by itself. Is it some Witcher ripoff where the world is occupied by people coming from different dimensions?

Now that the first patch was almost exclusively nerfs to satisfy pvp spergs can the second patch fix grab moves? A lot of bosses and enemies have grab moves with extremely buggy hitboxes and little to no indication they are about to happen. It's not quite but almost DS2 bad.

Forgive me if this comparison has already been made but...
Behold: The Guntsome Dung Eater!
Made even worse by the fact that Ethan Ralph literally is a Loathsome Dung Eater

Can anybode actually explain Malenias overall significance to me? She was hyped up as such an character that they even added stuff from her in the collectors edition, but she is literally just a gal you heal up, give an arm, meet a couple of times and then you fight her. Blaidd and Rani were more important.

I know this isn't the Ethan Ralph thread but can I just saw that gunt's dedication to being an asshole is truly remarkable? You'd think after someone got their ass beat so badly they need reconstructive surgery they'd stop being a douche for a while but literally the second the hospital was legally allowed to discharge him he went right back to being a shit talking prick.

I don't know if it's the booze that makes him so arrogant and over confident but holy shit.

So Malenia can one shot you with her first Phase 2 move, at 60 vig, even before the screen has fully transitioned.

This is such a horse shit fight.

Actually, that's what fucks me off about this game most. Most of the challenge like this bullshit comes from fucking with the player's iframe or camera rather than actual combat mechanics.

It's a game. The only shame someone should feel is for wasting hours on bashing their head against some of its difficulties, thinking they accomplished something noteworthy.
Noteworthy no but there's nothing wrong with challenging yourself either. That's my point, if you get assmad it mainly just reflects on you.

I think the name itself is just more wanky Middle Earth bait.
But as for the nature of it, I got the impression it's just the one habitable place where light was restored after the world returned to chaos.
If you go back and read Dark Souls 1 lore, the way the world was described before the First Flame sounds a lot like the hints in this game about the outside. Absolutely nothing but wastes of dead stone, storms, dragons, and giant mystical trees (not glowing).

There's a soul description about the arrival of the numen (yeah LOTR bullshit but it's also "new men") that says they were all Marika's people, and we know the Tarnished were also People of the Erdtree before they "lost their grace" and were lead away, so there's no reason to think there are any other humans at all. Literally everyone are just inbred degens and throwbacks apparently.
Except Patches who is an elder god

She doesn't have a huge level of significance overall apart from being a demigod, one of Marika and Radagon's children. She's just kind of cool, that's why she's in the marketing material. Before DSIII got chopped up and hacked back together ~9 months before release, what we now know as Soul of Cinder was just called Red Knight, and wasn't even a boss -- just a cool recurring miniboss like Black Knights -- yet they still put him all over the marketing.
Also you're confusing her with Millicent. They're different characters

She is miquella's brother, and Miquella was stolen away from her by Mohg who wanted to make Miquella a god. He was an Empyrean, same as Ranni. She is no longer guarding Miquella (I think) but is just guarding the Haligtree that he made.

I really thought that Millicent was Malenia, just with Amnesia and that the entire deal of giving her the arm, the needle and following her to the haligtree was so that she remembers and is fightable as a boss. I thought that was the entire idea of the phrase the "flowser of crimson rot is blooming again".

I've already posted my speculation but the short version is maybe Marika's plan after she broke the ring/killed herself to try to get rid of the big bad thing was for Miquella to become the new Erdtree, so she made Empyrian twins (ie pure bloodline since she was both parents, that's what Empyrian seems to mean) and put all the rot in Malenia so that Miquella could be pure.
I think her main importance is to signpost how important Miquella is because she's waiting at the version of him growing from the tree, while meanwhile Mohg is keeping his real body undead elsewhere. He seems to think Miquella can come back and she might have been thinking the same thing, so you can guess at different conclusions from that.
