I'm toying around with an early dex build and I'm gonna be honest, I'm loving the Guardian's Swordspear. A bit slow, but I don't hate the original Ash of War and it has A scaling when keen. It also does well with Piercing Thrust from what I can tell. Hopefully it retains its more unique moveset when dual wielded as well, but I doubt it.

So that applies only as you level up the weapon? And does it only scale the weapon up if you have those ashes equipped on the weapon at the time you're leveling the weapon up with stones?

I suck dick at this game and even I realized jumping down was where the tutorial is at. That's a common sense thing, everything was pointing towards you jumping down there.

I’m thinking I want to actually just hunker down with my strength character and fiddle with items on him. The volcano pots seem to be the most economical thrown item considering how common the stones are in gelmir, and they do pretty good damage while allowing some area denial in pvp for a build that otherwise lacks it.

Edit: The perfume items also appear to be slept on.

Could get the Spiked Palisade Shield w/ Frozen Shield Crash since that shield is STR based. Also another use for those volcano pots to reset the frostbite.

Where is frozen shield crash? I’m not seeing it on the wiki.

I also waited until the second phase of the fight to summon the wolves, because they'd die before the 2nd phase and that chick with the axe you summon would usually be enough to keep him busy for the first phase. I fucked him up when I did all that.
Wait, you can summon more than once?

Also, went back and murdered Tree Sentinel. Now that I'm in a serious relationship with quick step and using no shields I did it on the first try.

It's going to be Miquella using a Melania spirit summon
No it's going to be Miquella pissed off that his dumbass sister couldn't protect him from the pedo king and at you for killing her. So he's just going to summon two of her.

I fucking HATE those multi limbed teleporting assholes, the ones on the Haligtree are pure cancer
Healing incantations stun them. Even the basic AOE heal does it, and does it consistently. Just don't use a HoT spell, that just poisons them without the stun.

No no, I mean, the first few times I fought him, I'd summon the wolves at the beginning of the fight, along with the npc axe woman (Nepheli Loux) you can summon to help you before the fight by using that icon on the floor before you go through the misty door (on the right IIRC). The wolves would die during the first phase, and the axe woman would survive until around halfway through the second phase before I'd die myself.

I had better luck when I saved my wolves summon until the second phase of the fight. I could get through the first phase without too much trouble since I had Nepheli Loux helping, it was the second/final phase that was giving me a hard time. Having the wolves as a distraction for phase 2 was very helpful, I think.

I would get really close to beating him in earlier fights, and having the wolves there for phase 2 seemed to give me just enough of an edge to finally win.

Oh, I misunderstood then. I just summon my jelly, it's completely useless but draws aggro and have a lot of HP. It's the only summon I've upgraded at this point.

Yeah, I may have worded my original post poorly.

I've tried the jellyfish summon a couple times when I first got them, and yeah, it didn't seem to do much. I think you've got the right idea though, using him to draw the aggro. I never tried using the jellyfish in that way but I'm surely gonna try it out.

I didn't realize their health was so high. I like my wolves, but they are a little too aggressive sometimes, getting themselves killed before they've even had time to be a good distraction. They're a bit better at this now since I've leveled them up some.

They were a huge help to me though, especially very early game. On several of those early bosses I would've gotten murdered without them taking some of the pressure off of me.

Greatshield ashes make a great aggro generator. 5 little fuckers that barely deal any damage, but all have greatshields letting them just absorb hits. Only downside is if there's elemental damage, they melt quickly.

The jellyfish also lowers their attack power or something. They're great in that the boss might be stomping towards you, get that jellyfish shot up the butt, do a 180 and rush at the jelly leaving them open for some cheap hits that aggros them towards you, but then they get shot by the jelly again and they won't be able to resist going back to it.

Another benefit that I noticed was when I beat up that skeleton in a boat. The jelly drew aggro of all the constantly summoned skeletons while shooting/turning towards the boat. The jellyfish would often miss because because boatman teleports, and there's walls and trees around, but it clearly indicated where he was at all times.

Spent about an hour grinding to get my strength up enough for the Greatsword only to discover that it's absolutely fucking awful. Not enjoying navigating Stormveil castle either.

Honestly I'm starting to think I'm reaching my peak with the game, but I thought that with Margit before finally slaughtering the cunt. Might see if I've missed any dungeon bosses to tick off before giving Stormveil castle another try.

Greatswords and ultra greatswords got buffed recently but they're still not great especially with how fucking fast most bosses and even basic enemies are.

I was surprised too since high str with greatsword and shield was basically meta in all previous Souls games but I highly recommend re rolling as a caster or dex build if you want to enjoy this game.

Did you clear out Castle Morne yet? There's a blind girl near the grace before you get to Castle Morne who gives you a letter to give to her dad, who's the commander of the Castle.

You can find him sitting on a bench on one of the Castle walls, towards the back of it. He won't leave until you fight the boss that's on a little shallow island behind the Castle, he's one of those winged Misbegotten creatures that you fight all throughout the Castle, only he's much bigger.

After you kill the boss, talk to her dad again, he'll give you some big weird sword, but that's not why I'm telling you this. After that, go to where his blind daughter was by the Grace on the way to the castle, and kill him.

I'm pretty sure his quest is over with and there's no repercussions down the line for killing him, but double check if you're curious

He drops a +8 halberd that's pretty badass. I wasn't a big fan of it at first, but it was so strong compared to my other weapons I kept on using it and got used to the way it handled, especially on horseback. It's like a combination spear/axe.

It might make Stormveil Castle a little easier for you. I wield it with a shield.

Also in Castle Stormveil, I think it's called the Rampart Grace, you can go downstairs right near there and fight a lone Banished Knight. You can keep going back to the Grace to respawn him and eventually get his suit of armor. It takes awhile since he's just one guy, but the armor was quite a bit stronger than what I was using previously (The knight set sold by the two headed thing in Roundtable Hold)

It is pretty heavy though. There is a tailsmen that lowers your encumbrance but I don't remember what it's called or where I got it.

Oh, a tailsmen you should definitely try to get before you finish Stormveil Castle in the one outside the Beastial Sanctum in Caelid. Warp there from the third church of Marika and take a right when you exit the sanctum. If you have online turned on, there should be notes telling you where to jump down.

Make sure you spend all your runes first because it's a lot of trial and error when jumping down and you'll die a lot before getting all the way down there. The tailsmen you find is worth it though.

It raises your defense. It was a big help.
