Pretty much, bosses will kill you in about 3 hits, 4 max. All of their attacks have telegraph, so nothing super unfair.

If you don't distribute your stats too badly, you also hit hard too, so bosses doesn't last an eternity.

Try it out, it's a massive & beautiful game that is bang for your buck with 0 mtx.
I've never played a Souls game or anything like one. The closest thing I can think of in terms of difficulty is Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate fighting monsters in G-rank hunts (if you've only played World, then Master rank equivalent.) Is this game worth picking up and would my prior experience with extended boss fights against monsters that can 1-3 hit kill you carry over into this game?
Yeah my advice is to generally only level your stats up to the min requirments of the weapon you want (you get a 1.5x STR bonus when 2handing something btw) and then pump the shit out of vigor and a bit of endurance. and then focus on offensive stats again in the lategame/endgame.
Just the base damage from upgrading your weapon is enough to carry you through a good chunk of the game

Has anyone been experiencing issues in multiplayer? My PC has been randomly freezing when summoned, my specs are well above the recommended and this was notably not an issue in previous patches
i thought they fixed the connection issues but i just had 2 back to back summons where i got d/c'd from the host on Radagon+Beast.
I have barely bothered with pvp so no idea if the entire online PC infrastructure is fucked or if its something to do with bosses desyncing

It's definitely something to do with the infrastructure. Something fucky is happening, and it doesn't look like they've found it.

Well they had to use a quick fix due to an exploit with their servers back in Jan. I even think the PC versions of all the Souls games are still offline. So maybe they are still working on the server fix.

Dark Souls PC servers are not fixed as of 16 May 2022. Servers are down in total for 113 days

So I got to Praetor Rykard the other day, and when the second form started, I just kind of...stared at it for a good few minutes with my mouth open.

This fucking game has some absolutely god-tier monster designs, I gotta say.

I have been playing Elden Ring for a week now. Almost two.

I am not getting it, guys. The gameplay is fine but the open world stuff is really pedestrian and the story/scenario is way too smart for me I guess. It's alright, don't get me wrong. But I guess I don't know what I expected. The combat is neat but I find myself wanting more stuff to do and the exploration is not doing it.

I have a friend who loves these games (Bloodborne is his favourite) and he stopped after about two weeks. It's not you. I personally think the game benefits more from picking it up and putting it down over several shorter sessions than trying to marathon it in one go because I honestly believe that between the copy-pasted dungeons and a fairly empty yet very pretty open world, the game will grind you into apathy.

So I did pick up Elden Ring and I've been playing it for the past few days. Let me just say... this game fucking sucks. It's too damn hard and it needs an easy mode. The world and lore is uninspired and bland. 1/10.

Alright, jokes aside, I am enjoying the game. I have had a hard time adjusting to the combat because it's slower and more methodical though. Many times, an enemy would wind up their attack but I'd dodge too soon in anticipation and get hit. Other times, I'd be trying to train myself out of that mindset and hesitate too long once again leading me to getting nailed. It's hard for me to get a feeling when when do dodge but I believe I can continue to power through.

I've also made an honest attempt to keep my playthrough as blind as possible within reason. There are a few things I did look up before playing, mainly relating to attributes, affinities and how magic works. I also looked at some of the weapons and their stats as you upgrade them but not locations and maps. I want to somewhat mechanically understand what I'm doing so I don't entirely play my way into a corner.

My story began as I assume most did. I picked my class, Wretch in this case, and began with the introduction to the game. I fell to the Grafted Scion, completed the tutorial area, dying to the Soldier of Godrick once while trying to learn the controls, and ascended to the surface. I'm incredibly paranoid that everything is going to kill me so I crouch walk everywhere avoiding combat with anything I don't believe I can take on.

I start by following the chain of Sites of Grace to the Gatefront Ruins. Along the way, I kill what Soldiers of Godrick I can and acquire a set of armor from their corpses. I meet Melina, accept her proposal to serve as my Maiden and began honing my combat skills a bit. My problem at this point is that I don't know how I want to build my character and thus don't invest any runes at all at this point.

I start with the Gatefront Ruins with the singular goal of clearing the entire site without needing to rest at a Site of Grace. It takes me a good bit to learn the attacks of the soldiers but I figure out a way to dispatch them fairly consistently. I catch them by surprise with a jump attack and follow up with two standard attacks. With enough perseverance, I was able to accomplish my goal while netting around 15k runes.

I begin sneaking down the road to the southeast while avoiding the mounted enemies. I come to a stop at a bridge trying to figure out how I can sneak around the mounted patrol. While searching for an answer to that question, I notice two giants pulling a giant cart down the road towards me. I wait a fair bit for them to pass and I think I notice a chest on the back end of the cart. I hop on but I can't interact with it.

I hop down, mount up and try hit and run tactics against the giants. They stomp but I'm out of range each time they do. I down one of the giants and notice the other start kneeling. I check the back of the cart again and acquire a Greataxe. Now this is a weapon I can invest in.

I wield the axe with two hands and start pumping my strength up a bit. Feeling emboldened, I begin striking out at other enemies I had been avoiding up to this point. My fears of some of these enemies were unjustified. Some others, were more terrifying than I could ever had imagined. With a Site of Grace in my peripheral lulling me into a false sense of security, one shambling husk on a cliff transformed into a giant bear, mauling me before I could utter the words "what the fuck!?"

I eventually found my way to exploring the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. After clearing a basement filled with Giant Rats, I walked through a door to find a chest. I claimed my prize... a teleport trap sending me all the way to the Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. Terrified, I rush to find an exit. My first thoughts were: "Okay, I'm underground. I need to go up to get out." I find that path upwards and it leads me to a boss that didn't even give me time to remember it's name. Thankfully, I had already spent the bulk of my runes or they'd be forfeit to this cave. I eventually do manage to find the exit.

I find my way out of one hell and into another. The swamp makes me paranoid again. I cautiously touch the crimson blood-water, fully prepared to dodge roll back to shore, thinking it would damage me in some way. Finding the pools only damaged me psychologically, I start to explore the local area. As I walk, mushroom infested corpses climb from the blood bog to attack me. I make my way into nearby ruins finding hostile plants and a corpse with Perfumer's Traveler attire. I hop atop Torrent and run west to find any Sites of Grace or any semblance of road or path back towards Limgrave.

This brings me back to the starting area. Currently, Margit, the Fell Omen is walling me in the story. I've gotten him to 40% health or so but I'm finding it hard to dodge all but two of his attacks. I've also cleared the minibosses from Stormfoot Catacombs and Groveside Cave without dying once to them.

I've decided on a Greataxe build, opting to invest into strength, reaching the requirement for my greataxe. My playstyle so far has simply been find an opening -> jump attack/charge attack -> run away/dodge. Currently, I'm level 25 and I've invested into Strength up to 30 and Vigor and Endurance to 12. I've also applied an Ash of War to my greataxe changing the affinity to only pull from Strength at B rank. I am a little squishy right now but I plan on rounding out Vigor and Endurance over time. At some point, should I need to, I may also pick up a shield. I'd have to wait until my carry weight is increased before entertaining the thought, however.

I don't know if I'm playing this game or building my character "correctly," but I have been making progress. After playing up to this point, I can see the appeal.

@Focken Kiwi , the troll caravans only opens the chest when they reach their destination. If you want to do it the easy way just pick off the followers along the way, their will be a knight but just shoot his horse until it's dead. When it stop at camp you can loot the chest. And harass the trolls/giants if you want, they can't break loose so it's easy and safe to step back a bit. 1000 souls per one you kill...

I can't remember what reputation Rennala Queen of Moon. It took me a while to figure out which girls to target, I was mass slaughtering everything, so when I got to second phase rinella I had one flask, half HP, my trusty jelly, and no idea of how this boss fight even works. Got her down to 15%. Second attempt I embarrassingly died in the girl room... Third attempt, second at Rennela proper, and she was fucked from the start. Daggers/knives are fast and it seem almost anything can break her poise and interrupt her spells, if you dual wield them and hit her 10 times per second she is almost stunlocked until stamina runs out.

If you smack the giants pulling the wagons once, they immediately stop. Most enemy AI is also too stupid to figure out how to reach you while you're raiding the chest.

Look for the ones that radiate a golden glow. They're the ones projecting the shield.

I stepped back, reevaluated my character's equipment and consulted the wiki on equipment load. I didn't know there was that big difference between medium load and heavy load. I swapped out my Godrick Soldier Helmet for a Traveler's Hat, dropping my load to medium while still giving me some extra protection, and attempted Margit a few more times. I noticed a drastic improvement in my ability to dodge attacks. An hour and a half in and I was starting to consistently hit phase 2. A couple more alterations to my strategy and an hour later, I downed Margit. It might not be a huge achievement for someone who's played Souls games all this time but finishing him off gave me a huge dopamine rush.

You want to avoid heavy load unless you're planning on literally slugging it out with bosses. It's rolls and stamina regen are unbearably slow. Medium load is the typical go to as the roll is quick with tons of i-frames to keep you safe. Light load in this game works similar to medium load, except the distance traveled is much further.

You're better off trying to min-max your gear to stay in medium, balance out armors that boost defense, poise, and bonuses to stats. Bonus points if you fashion souls yourself into looking cool as shit too.

There's also talismans that ups your equip load and the effect stacks, so you can go for a heavier armor/weapon set while keeping the weapons you're comfortable with a quick swap away. At the expense of your preferred talismans. Remember that weapons in the weapon slots adds to the equip load, that might not be apparent to everyone.

The double chug was something I don't think I knew about until this game. Towards the end of the flask animation, press drink again. Very useful.

On youtube a while ago a short video popped up on someone trying to speedrun getting the "The Noble's Slender Sword" drop. I have that, is there anything special to it?

Longsword (As in moveset also) with longer reach and better scaling. Longsword can get B for Heavy and Keen scaling while the Noble gets A for both. But its really rare so could take a while to get.

Placidusax' last 2 minutes of battle are an RNG nightmare, I prefer fighting Melenia cause her second phase at least is a slightly more predictable nightmare

It has taken me THIS long to work out how to actually use ashes of war. Here I was thinking it was just automatically added to the weapon, I didn't realise you had to leave your other hand empty.

Blood slash is incredibly fun, even though it makes boss fights even more tense with me chopping bits of my own HP off.
