In Dark Souls 2, the invasion/hunter covenants did something kinda like this. When you progressed up the ranks your red/blue phantom form would gain some slight cosmetic upgrades. I don't think they ever brought this back which is a shame because it was cool. (Plus it was a nice way of being able to tell when you were about to get your shit rocked)

I feel like they cut this mechanic because not only do you have people Alt+F4 when they get invaded, but the more sturdy players would Alt+F4 if they saw a glimmery red phantom. It's probably better to let players find out the hard way that the invader has sunk 100hrs and has the most broken meta curbstomp shit to exist.

Shame they didn't carry something like this over. adding a white glow to a phantom is a nice way of showing they mostly win invasions but I think something more precise would be better like a percentage bar next to your name. it'd also help players just doing a regular playthrough consider weather to just run away from the invader or fight.
Disconnecting would count as a loss to prevent players purposefully disconnecting and wasting players time but I'd let entering the fog gate pass. but like Elden ring I'd also let players invade during certain boss fights.
the goal would be to create a more toxic / elitist environment.
They also need to add a proximity chat to the game but i think that might not even be possible after launch. if it is possible I'd definitely pay for it for Elden ring.

also what do people want for the Elden Ring DLC? i want
  • more mounts like a dear mount that's not as fast but can do multiple double jumps.
  • an invading item that lets you invade anywhere in the world instead of just the location you're standing at because it would shorten times between invasions and it'd use more of the map keeping the game fresh.
  • a boss where players can invade and become the boss instead of the regular NPC and get some sort of unique power in that situation. (like the spears of the church from DS3 ringed city)
  • 1656032973685.png
  • another game mode that involves chasing people across a map on horse back. I don't understand why there's zero horse riding in the multiplayer at the moment I get its to do with balancing but its missing opportunities to never have it in multiplayer.

After a month or so I'm thinking about starting the game and taking a stab at pony-boy Radahn again, any advice? I'm not even sure what's going wrong in this fight other than me getting hit out of nowhere, are the summons a mistake?

that fights quite easy even at low levels. you can even beat him by just summoning over and over again on your horse but that'll take a while. there's also two glitches which you can use to cheese him by climbing the cliff or standing by the ocean when he does his asteroid attack.

Cliff cheese has been patched out. The devs were very salty about that one, but the ocean cheese still works.

Summoning NPCs is the way to go if you're having a hard time, because they're summoned after the boss fight starts, Radahn doesn't gain extra HP from them being summoned. There's also a max number of times you can summon the NPCs, but so long as you jump in with them and help deal some damage, it should be fine.

Yea the Bloodhound Step Knight Cheese has been wholly patched also. No more Poison respawn cheese or Cliff suicide cheese since he despawns really fast off the bridge now.

just make a dark souls dlc and don't try to make a small open-world area. I don't want to fight about 8 more dragons, 6 more black riders, and 10 more godskins scattered about in a desperate attempt at padding. contained level with myriad interweaving paths, quality encounter and boss design, that's all I could ask for

  • More spells of each variety. It's disappointing that there are only 2 aberrant sorceries, 2 claymen sorceries, 3 crystalian sorceries, 2 moon sorceries, 4 snow sorceries. I don't care if they add more in the form of taking an existing spell and changing it's flavor, I just want sorcery toolkits to have multiple choices of the same flavor so you can invest heavily into buffing that one flavor.
  • An area about the same size and DLC2 for Dark Souls 3 or Hunter's Nightmare from Bloodborne. A nice, long legacy dungeon with a lot to do. I get that Elden Ring was founded on an open world concept, but I'm not sure how they can add more open world without it feeling stale.
  • Lore on Godwyn. He is by far the most fascinating mystery in the game, and while I'm okay with not learning 100% of him, I'd love to learn just a bit more.

Dunno if I'm late but
  • Constantly summon phantom buddies to help deal damage and take aggro away from you and resummon them as needed.
  • If you're melee then use torrent to get some drive-by hits, he also has a lot of general wide sweeping attacks and some that use gravity magic to pull you towards him (these are pretty easy imo to see telegraphed), but he also has a few particular combos that are more focused to where he is facing. (The one where he jumps forward off his pony and crawls around while slamming his swords you can literally just sit between his crotch and pelt him lol)
  • If you're ranged however you can basically treat it like an MMO raid boss and just sit back while spamming your strongest spells/arrows and let your phantom buddies soak up all the shit he dishes out.
  • Phase 2 is not that much different. Avoid his meteor in the transition with torrent and be wary when he has rocks summoned around him but they will usually target npcs if they are closer to him. He can also shoot a volly of gravity wells (The little purple balls) at range but again use torrent to dodge them easily, and he can also do a literal M. Bison Psycho Crusher that's not hard to dodge with torrent but I'm pointing it out because it's cool as fuck to see.
He's one of my fave bosses in the game (that's probably obvious) but I don't think he's that bullshit to fight. On launch though I do know his sword hitboxes were ass but they have since fixed this.

A popular one that I keep seeing and agree with is something Miquella-based, like entering his dreams or something. Not to fight him per say (though that would be completely expected) but rather to shed some light on what’s been going on in his consciousness ever since he put himself in his cocoon and Mohg kidnapped him.

Lore on Godwyn. He is by far the most fascinating mystery in the game, and while I'm okay with not learning 100% of him, I'd love to learn just a bit more.
This too. Of all the demigods, Miquella and Godwyn have the most DLC potential for us to explore lore-wise. I’m mystified by why the hell Godwyn’s body looks the way it does.

The world of Elden Ring currently is, in my own humble opinion, precisely big enough as it needs to be. I would be all for a legacy type of dungeon DLC. A straight-forward quest taking me inside the dungeon and have me progress through it as I see fit, but for once do a straight-forward quest.

I said this before, the addition of a journal would be nice to track quests. I know this goes against everything the purists hold dear in these games but let us have a journal, and just like with the crafting books, let us find pages/chapters from vendors, in locations around the world, so we don't have to comb through long-winded walkthroughs to even know how to do certain parts of a quest, or where to go to next. You can still have the purist mode and not do any of that stuff, but let us have the option at least.

even better, be the one that causes everything to go to shit.
Well, we already know why things went to shit, Ranni got all uppity and decided to kill her body and Godwyns soul using Black Knives and a stolen fragment of the death rune. So for us to be the reason it goes to shit, we'd either have to have another fight against Maliketh or become a Black Knife assassin. The latter sounds cooler.

I don't think I've ever been hit by his second phase meteor, so that's not a problem. Second phase magic isn't that much of a problem, unless I'm in a bad spot and gets hit by all the balls. It's the regular attacks that ultimately blind sides me, it's not always easy to see what he's up to when between his legs while juggling the lock-on to the closest thing to swing at. Using Torrent to ride by and take swipes is something that I'm not good at, shamefully I have not used the horse very much at all, so it is a very reliable way to die against him.
I even tried using a shield a couple of times!

I've done the summons and riding around shooting arrows but that feels like the boring and tedious kind of cheese so I will jump in swinging at his nads at some point, that's where it goes wrong. So far this is the only place in the game where my fingers hurt.

In the end my failure can only be blamed on the game not letting me summon my emotional support jellyfish. I will try the ocean cheese just to move past this fight.

I don't remember if they explained why and how it happened. Maybe Rani wanted to kill Godwyn who was Elden Lord to start the Age of Stars only to fuck it up in the last moment and do a mutual kill that resulted in everything bad that happens afterwards?

Is Rani Elden Ring's version of Magnus? (Malenia is Horus, starts a massive civil war that ends up creating incurable damage on the world).

Exact details weren't explained, but Ranni did it so she could tell the fingers to fuck off and let her do whatever the fuck she wants. To do so, she had to kill her body, but not her soul and to do that, a soul had to die but not it's body. Unclear why she chose Godwin or how she knew this was possible. Extremely unclear as to why Godwin mutated like he did after body death.

I'd like for it to exist, for starters. Miyazaki saying they're nearing completion on an unannounced project makes me hope he was referring to that and was just being coy. Still, for starters I'd like some more armor sets that don't look like weird overdesigned vomit, the elaboration of some key lore elements, a bossfight with Godwyn, all the expected shit, and the arenas would be cool especially if they let you refight bosses without going into NG+.

I'm expecting some kind of time travel shenanigans, but I mostly want a Bloodborne-style expansion that ties up loose ends and answers currently unanswered questions.

Just beat the final boss at level 169. I did summon help again but honestly I don't regret it this time either, I really didn't feel like grinding anymore. Went with the Age of Order ending. Have no plans for NG+ but I'll definitely check out any lore-related DLC down the line. What a game.

yeah I think a more linear DLC would be best since the base game has the open world aspect well enough covered. I don't completely disagree that they've recycled a lot of enemies as bosses but I don't think they went over board with it. the dragons you fight in the world are different enough from one another and they unlock different abilities for example. godskins are very well placed if you know the lore behind all of their locations. Ringed City was by far my favourite DLC out of all the souls games.
  • More spells of each variety.

1656198780408.png

guess you could add more types of magic. i was surprised by how good and diverse the magic was in comparison to dark souls 3.
Spells I'd add would be
  • Aspects of the crucible: Wings!
    1656199852726.png
  • a spell where you can damage yourself to summon small enemies that attack you but if you kill them they heal more than they costed to summon. Probably a thorns type spell.
  • frost spell for reducing other players visibility. it would put fog around someone's head so they can only see like 10 meters in front of them for a few mins.
  • a spell that massively reduces your lock on range. you cant be locked on until your really close but only lasts a short while but its cheap and fast to cast.
  • a gravity spell that just flips everyone really high in the air or slams them into the ground.
  • some type of trap spell that you can place on the ground and activate when you chose. (((C4))) can only have one at a time.
  • Lore on Godwyn.
I’m mystified by why the hell Godwyn’s body looks the way it does.
he probably looks like a fish because that's what his soul reincarnated as when he reached the after life and his corpse is trying to copy the shape of his new soul. I imagine the after life (the main one (i think there's multiple afterlife's in da game)) is an aquatic deep sea theme. there's plenty of enemies shattered about using the same type of death magic that are sea themed.

1656202533144.png

his body spreading all over the world is probably it attempting to reach his soul which isn't working because its in a different reality.

Entering his dream would be cool but i would hate it if it was done like darksouls 2 with the giants. i don't think you should be able to bring back physical items from dreams.

if we enter a dream to learn about the lore of Elden ring it should only reflect his prospective. they should only be as accurate as his memory of events. He should think things that never happened happened to let us know that everything we see in his dreams isn't 100% confirmed lore its just his prospective / something he thinks is true.
i wouldn't want to go back in time though to see his history like most people want. it'd be cooler if we moved forward in time in his dream and saw what he was trying to achieve. if he thinks his hailgtree tree was a success and that he was reborn as an adult in the tree and we can see him doing what he planned to do. in the dream he could kill Malenia for being a potential rival as he takes over the world with zero emotion.
take advantage of story telling methods that are only achievable through the video game medium.

love your profile pic by the way. xxx😘

I'd like some more armor sets that don't look like weird overdesigned vomit
the armour looks great. i only wish i could download a mod for importing some of the darksouls armours as well and still be able to do Pvp.
they should also increase the amours effectiveness depending on what you're wearing to increase fashion souls. If you're wearing a set of armour thats supposed to go together you get a small bit more armour protection to increase fashion souls. too many people running around wearing whatever has the best states with no fashion sense.

for a DLC that doesn't involve Miqqulla or Godwyn i'd like to travel around the other flying city where those golems fell from. also going to the moon to collect rannis rune would be fun.
for a new DLC ending they should restore the age of absolute ending where you can forcibly join the two and three figures to make a hand that imparts wisdom about the all the outer gods (currently known and unknown) unbiasedly giving humanity the best chance at a real future. which is hugely different from every other souls game. in every other souls game you just leave the world the same as it was of worse off.
