I've had a half baked idea for a while. Whenever I get to a new site of grace and I have the amount of runes that means leveling up but I am 15% short it means I'm reluctant to turn the next corner and going further. Instead I look through my inventory to see what rune-balls I have or I go to Roundtable to sell some crap to get that level. It's annoying and I know that Souls games are about gambling your souls in a way.

But I had an idea, what if you could bank your runes by turning them into a phantom that you have to defeat to get them back? If you bank 50k runes it would create a phantom of the kind where a level for them would cost 50k. Fight them at round table hold where you jump down from the balcony. Maybe 2-3 tries before it vanishes forever.
Just buy items then sell them later?

Is the third to last boss,Maliketh the Black Blade supposed to be fucking bullshit? I need to know if anyone else found him infuriating to deal with or if I'm just bad.

I think I had to either use a shield, ROB spam, or both to get by him on my first run and he's gatekept my subsequent 3 playthroughs of the game to try and get the other endings.

I do have to thank him for convincing me to quit Elden Ring at least. Got me to drop Elden Ring so I wouldn't loathe the game and so that things are fresh for me when the DLC comes out

You can get an item which allows you to parry him which stuns him for a few seconds and stops him from jumping around. It has unlimited uses.

Is pvp popular? I turned off online stuff and only play alone. Seems right.
Souls PVP is it's own weird brand of special with a dedicated community. I wager Elden Ring PVP wouldn't still be nearly as popular if the servers weren't offline for the rest of the games currently.

As someone who did a decent bit of PVP in DS2, and then a TON in 3 for the covenants, I absolutely despise it in Elden Ring for just how braindead easy it is to run and roll forever due to near zero punishment for poor stamina management. Combine that with the lack of decent rewards (No PVP covenant rewards and Rune Arcs don't gate summons like Humanity/Embers) and there really just isn't much a reason for it unless you missed griefing noobs with end game gear or troll builds the first few times around.

I had some fun running dungeons, pointing out secrets, and beating bosses for people with absurd builds and weird fashion choices, but considering at least half ended with connection errors even that made any multiplayer hard to enjoy.

Ditching it all and just having Mimic Tear, Oleg, or whatever other legendary ash you prefer bail you out when if things get a bit rough is probably the best experience.

Elden Ring should have been completely offline just like Sekiro, it was a really bad design decision. Or exclusively co-op considering how hard are the bosses without summons, but I'm talking about seamless co-op like that mod. Open world games are so fun with your friends fucking around, a missed opportunity.

FromSoftware never learns from their mistakes though, so ER 2 will still have a terrible online the same way all their games have terrible sidequests with no indication of improvements.

I can agree with ER multiplayer being retarded, but not with completely offline.
Playing coop is great fun, but coop also doesn't have the leisure of wandering off on your own and taking your own sweet time, both offers a different kind of satisfaction.

Meanwhile, there's also some fun in helping other people when invaded and getting into duels. What From is missing is full coop(already available but unofficial) and better online components. The rest are pretty fun as it is.

One thing i would like to see is some balance tuning with stamina management

As long as you have even a sliver of stamina you can jump, roll, or do any kind of regular or power attack despite those moves using more stamina than you currently have

Id like to see a change where if you dont have the full stamina to do it, you can still do it, but you dont get the full effect. The attack does less damage, you dont jump as far, you roll slower and not as far, something. encourage players to button mash less, think more tactically

It's always been that way, but depleting your stamina totally has usually carried some cause for concern, like lower regeneration for a period of time. Dark Souls 2 had probably the greatest depth in this regard, since stamina management was perhaps at its most important there and you had the widest variety of weapons that could interact with it - true combos that cost enormous stamina to chain, or bleed effects that if triggered demolish your stam regen, etc. Even the first DS and Demon's were far rougher than was 3 about stam usage.

3 and Elden Ring let you roll essentially forever and without much in the way of punishment. It's hard to clip the vulnerable portion of the rolls because they've had their iframes beefed up and their recovery reduced, the way that stamina is spent allows you to spam the roll (or an evade weaponskill) forever, and there's very little in the way of counterplay to it. But it has to be that way because some of the latter bosses flurry as if they were in Bloodborne, and you need to chain rolls to evade them. Except that while Bloodborne's PvP also let you dash all over the place forever, it gave the player tools to punish the recovery because movement in general was more fluid (despite lack of a jump button)... and you had guns.

All this amounts to PvP being "spam whatever braindead thing is overtuned and then spam roll until you're six zipcodes away" in most of its iterations, because if you (or your helpers) clip someone twice with the overtuned stuff, they die. Funny how Hoarfrost still has a good use in PvP and PvE alike, but you don't really see it used since "it two-shots everything for no stamina or mp" was fixed. Same thing with all the overtuned shit and exploits.

It used to just be a simple matter that zeroing your stamina left you with a delay before it would start going back up. You burned your stamina playing recklessly and you would pay for it. The delay now is counted in frames at best. DS3 was argued to hell and back just for giving you a few slow steps on chugging, Elden Ring came along and made you even faster on that as well.

Icing on the cake is that there's not even the seeds to make enemies hostile to invaders anymore. If someone feels like running around forever, you either need to get DAMN good at roll catching or you may as well just jump off a cliff and save yourself the hours chasing them through every single enemy and mini-boss spawn in the area.

And don't even get me started on Bloodhound Step... Thank god they finally got the sense to nerf it. Shame people lost it for PVE, as it was a decent crutch for some of the BS bosses they put in, but it was a serious "Did they even play their own game?" moment seeing it for the first time in PVP.

I figure since they decided to go in a restrictive direction with invades that people have to actively ask for it via an item or have people summoned that they felt like throwing a bone but they just royally fucked it all up IMO. I used to get excited to suddenly see a fog wall go up in front of me and see an invader message. Elden Ring turned it into "I hope the host knows to haul ass with me to the boss gate because I'm not dealing with this shit."

Honestly ive never used quickstep or bloodhound step and now i feel like ive inadvertently avoided ez mode or something lol. I also dont do PvP (do play online but not interested in the limited PvP system from has for ER). Ive barely used any ashes of war or already on the item weapon skills other than blade of death cheesing on my first toon, regular attacks and incantations/spells is my arsenal, i should probably try out all the other ashes and skills for replay value at least

I honestly think that From Soft gave the absolute worst parts of their community the ability to play test this game, which resulted in tons of imbalance issues on launch since they catered to people who either don't care for the gameplay, use only exploits or think the company can do no wrong.

Honestly, it was pretty popular about a month ago, only a few seconds to invade (at max level pvp and the meta levels). Got very boring with BHS spam, especially the higher you go. Dunno if they fixed the dual-wield giant weapon spam either.

It makes strength weapons a lot easier to use for sure, since your options for the big beefy ones on certain bosses are either to use quickstep, the super-poise pseudo-parry, or to learn every move's exact timings so you can nug them once before they take their turn again. Well, unless you go for the knight's resolve bug or whatever and just one-shot every boss in the game with that stupid setup, that's the real strength weapon ezmode

yeah adding giant seeds back in would be great.
