Actual archive: https://archive.is/A3cxcFor those wondering, this was the article (archive) that caused Scott so much anguish. He wasn't wrong. The piece was a full course of dog shit, seasoned, cooked, and plated by an absolute buffoon.
Let's break this down.I hate journalists too, but it's more because of stuff like them lying and people dying, not being mildly offended. He is such a pussy.

If an autist is causing incessant noise by screeching for no reason, someone needs to go and put down that autist.Actual archive: https://archive.is/A3cxc
Yeah, the author is really stupid. They don't appear to think for a moment how great it would be for everyone to afford air conditioning at all times. Don't they know excessive noise is bad for your health?
Not to mention the use of loud and/ repetetive sound/ music is a well documented form of psychological torture used by various military groups.Actual archive: https://archive.is/A3cxc

I think the stress effects (direct stress effects, not through sleep) are slightly overblown if you're thinking about city noise. It really messes with your sleep though, I don't think that gets enough attention. I've always wondered how much various claimed "bugman" effects (bystander effect, "fluoride stare") are really to do with sleep deprivation. Not to mention the use of loud and/ repetetive sound/ music is a well documented form of psychological torture used by various military groups.
People who live in cities get used to the normal noise and sometimes even start to need noise to fall asleep after a while. Yeah, random honking and screaming and stuff would disrupt sleep but that’s not a daily occurrences . I don’t think it has much to do about sleep deprivation. Most bugmen would probably start whining on reddit id they didn’t get their 8-9 hours, it’s why some of them hate babies so much. ( if you live in an apt you can hear a screaming baby through the wall). Im intimately familiar with chronic sleep deprivation and worked with many a bugman and i dont think there’s much correlation.I think the stress effects (direct stress effects, not through sleep) are slightly overblown if you're thinking about city noise. This is just plagiarizing Ursula K. LeGuin's story, which won the 1974 Hugo for Best Short Story.
Rats don't have an original thought in their head? Color me shocked. This is just plagiarizing Ursula K. LeGuin's story, which won the 1974 Hugo for Best Short Story.
Is he reading the Aella thread? Because people were talking about the story there. This is just plagiarizing Ursula K. LeGuin's story, which won the 1974 Hugo for Best Short Story.
It's funny he picked it actually, because it's generally regarded as a critique and rejection of utilitarianism.Rats don't have an original thought in their head? Color me shocked.
I don't think Yudkowsky's a utilitarian but it's hard to tell. I think a lot of his fanbase is and he does not want to piss them off. It's funny he picked it actually, because it's generally regarded as a critique and rejection of utilitarianism.
I don't know if he still is, but his notorious "dust mote" rant is peak utilitarian.I don't think Yudkowsky's a utilitarian but it's hard to tell. I think a lot of his fanbase is and he does not want to piss them off.
Or just her twitter feed, as she tweeted about her omelas themed orgy there. His fixation on that is probably what brought out this tweet …Is he reading the Aella thread? Because people were talking about the story there.
he’s clearly referencing it and trying to add a twist. This is just plagiarizing Ursula K. LeGuin's story, which won the 1974 Hugo for Best Short Story.
I read it as yet another brainchild of LeGuy's gay ass obsession with feminism. Every time Yid opens his hairy-vagina looking mouth, it's some child murder "thought experiments". You'd think he'd interpret Omelas through the dust speck torture lens, but no it's an Epstein Island what-if.It's funny he picked it actually, because it's generally regarded as a critique and rejection of utilitarianism.
He's still mad he got rejected from the gangbang.Or just her twitter feed, as she tweeted about her omelas themed orgy there. His fixation on that is probably what brought out this tweet …
