I'm just thinking out loud, but Ellen "coming out" was a big deal because people kind of already knew. At the same time, she came out around the time that being regular gay was becoming old hat. There was a lot more pansexual/bisexual-type discourse at the time, and in a few years, the trans hype really took off.

Being trans is different, though, because you almost have a cycle of "coming out" events to complete. New abs, new face, new voice, new genitalia, new clothes, new new genitalia when the surgery fails. So I don't doubt that there's a subconscious need in Ellen to be paid attention to ... that coming out as gay was almost depressingly mundane, and not something people were going to constantly affirm her for anymore. I think it's the mix of being so delicate and overly... I dunno. Expressive? With it? I'm not a makeup expert, but I know enough to get by.

So, with HRT, not only is her skin becoming greaser, but she's likely dealing with major acne. Hench why she's looking so orangey due to the concealer she's using. This woman is way too pale for that color. She needs something way lighter than her natural foundation.
Chances are the reason she's also looking so waxy is because she or the makeup artist is using liquid foundation instead of powder. Also, they could be likely setting it with a spray as well. For liquid foundation, you'd use a powder, and for a powder, you'd use a spray.

Either way, they're doing full coverage when she just needs corrections. Considering her face is changing so drastically, she's likely really fucked up over it. Because, shocker, you stop being able to recognize yourself in the mirror. And it fucks w your head because she was never serious about transitioning.

i agree that physically, unless she has been shooting lots of T, then she can back out now with the only real physical effect being the loss of her tits. but mentally i think she might be too deep in the hole to back out.

she has already publicly gone with mastectomy, fake abs,photo shoots, and done everything she can to publicly state she is a trans man now. then there is all the attention she has gotten for doing so. behind the scenes she might have handlers encouraging her to do all this stuff too. she might be way too sunken cost into the trans stuff for her to mentally ever back out, and this assuming she can even see that clearly to want to back out.
