Inactive Elliot Rodger - The Supreme Gentleman

True that. I was just pointing out that as far as raising their own kids, they seem to have the least contact with them. Perhaps if they were a little more involved with his upbringing instead of leaving the kids in someone else's care while the parents are out busy being glamorous, he may not have been so detached and withdrawn.

In case you didn't read the manifesto, Elliot was actually very close to his birth mother and birth father. And he stopped having nannies at the age of 10. Psychopathy sometimes can arise from even the most ideal of situations.

If you saw what I did when I was in California, you'd understand.

Elaborate.

Pretty sure that still doesn't excuse mass murder.

Yeah having a bad experience with a couple of people in a state never justifies the mass extermination of millions.

Mayhem via natural disaster isn't considered mass murder.

I would never wish death of any kind on millions.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings on this guy.

What he did was terrible, and I wish the best for the families of the victims. Not to mention by the looks of some of the stuff he's written, he sounds like a complete asshole.

At the same time, I can't help but see a bit of myself in this guy. I too sometimes have feelings of jealousy and bitterness towards those who have what I want. I too find myself fantasizing doing bad things to those who piss me off. And hell, I also like the idea of being in a loving relationship.

And that bit about him with his dad. That hits a little close to home for me.

Who knows, perhaps if I didn't actually talk to my family about my problems, I might have ended up like this guy. Hell, he and I are the same age. Give or take a few months. It's almost kinda scary some of the similarities we share.

You'll grow out of that soon enough.

Yeah...the thing is...irrational anger towards a large swath of people for the actions of a select few...is the kind of thing you're supposed to grow out of.

It's not something that you grow in to, and those who do...well end up like Elliot: a sad miserable little man full of hatred at the world for things that were ultimately his own fault. He was a psychopath who expected the world to bend to his whim, and when the world (predictably) didn't he reacted by wishing them all dead in the most gruesome ways his diseased little mind could come up with.

Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that matter. It's not worth hassling with any further, imo.

Southern California isn't any different from anywhere else, and it's really stupid to wish the death of millions just because you don't like a particular area. Jesus Christ get your issues solved before you post such insanity as this.
Thank you for saying what I never been able to. I got fed up with reading so many "I hope California sinks into the ocean" comments. I don't believe in that whole "State Pride" nonsense and I do acknowledge the many flaws it has but it's still my home.
Frankly, I don't like New York but I don't want them dead.

I'm a Southern California native, what about it?

Okay, I'm still new here so I have an excuse to be ignorant about this, but what's this deal about Wizards?

I think reading the first two pages will give you the idea.

Same here. Being a Southern Californian, I myself have to ask if I myself deserve to perish just because of what Elliot did along with what the Froon saw.

I don't believe in hell so I don't think that he would be punished for all of eternity but I also don't believe he's in a good place either. I really believe that eventually he will be forgiven by whatever deity exists.

Looking at his whinyfesto, It looks like most of his life has been torturous for him, as pathetic as that sounds.

We don't know much neurochemistry yet, and little about ERs psychiatric diagnosis. But besides raging assburgers, it's clear that he spent the majority of his time incredibly angry, in despair, or depressed and jealous.

There is a neurological syndrome, where the part of the nervous system that regulates appetite is damaged. As a result people suffering from it are ravenous with hunger constantly, even if they just had a big meal. Left to their own devices, they can literarily eat themselves to death.

Now imagine if Elliott's neurochemistry is damaged in a different way. Where his default setting was switched to "seething with jealousy".

Just mentioning it, because I see a lot of blame being thrown around: It was the parents! No it was that horrid Hollywood lifestyle! He was just evil!

And even though the parents, his environment and his Aspergers may all have been contributing factors, the underlying reason may be that he had some really deficient wiring in his brain. And that's something which is frustratingly hard to blame.

Here is a quote from him

You still don't think culture had nothing to do with this?

I am a person who is diagnosed with a mental illness and I am sick and tired of every time there is a shooting spree that everyone goes to blame mental illness when there is no proof that the shooter was even mentally ill.

Culture and being a piece of shit can have a role in a person going on a shooting spree.
Sorry Atropos, folks who kill innocents are always, ALWAYS crazy. That's not a judgement, it's a law

You don't. They don't. But Socal is very weird and fucked up. With the combination of high population density and most of the entertainment industry being there, how can it not be? It's one of those things where you don't notice it until you've moved away (I used to live there). I guess it would be a bit like living in Florida and thinking it's normal, except not quite that crazy.

I should add it has little to do with Elliot's fuckery. He would have pulled that shit wherever he lived, because people everywhere dare to have relationships that don't involve him.

To your credit, Scorptatious, that you're aware of and bothered by any similarities between you two gives you an advantage he never had--introspection, humility, and at least some measure of compassion. Elliott's feelings are not unique by any means (after all, who among us hasn't been an angsty teen/young adult at some point?), and that you're willing to assess yourself fairly instead of just blame others is a wonderful trait. I think Winston Rowntree summed it up beautifully here:
