I have always felt that Elliot butchering his 3 Asian roommates was him symbolically killing the half of him he hated if that makes any sense. When he looked at his roommates it reminded him of his Asianness. Elliot hated being mixed race. In his manifesto he talks about dyeing his hair blonde in middle school and how happy it made him and he's utterly obsessed with blonde hair and whiteness throughout it. He talks about feeling superior to full blooded Asians and how them getting girls infuriated him.
