Not so, unless you mean “ubiquitous mobile connectivity” by “readily available internet.” I was in Morocco and Egypt a fair bit in 2005 and 2006 and never had an issue getting online.

That said, outside of the luxury resorts, life in those places is extremely jarring for those who grew up in the US. For a young silver spooner like Elliot, I’m sure the general filth, disrepair and dinginess of Morocco was terrifying.

Agreed. Everything he ever said about blonde girls has the air of someone who hates caviar but makes sure to constantly be seen eating it because of the social status he thinks it confers on him.
 
Anyone got recommendations for decent sources on Elliot Rodger that aren't 3-hour documentaries filled with pointless filler? Tried watching one of those marathon documentaries and gave up after they talked about his whole fuckin' family situation, like who cares, just get to the point, even if it gonna take a while

Looking for something that cuts to the chase - his manifesto, the retribution video, maybe a solid timeline of events. Don't need every minute detail of his life story, just the important stuff that led up to May 23, 2014.

What's the most efficient way to get the key facts without sitting through content that treats every minor detail like it's crucial?

*note: I'm fine with either watching videos, listening to podcasts or reading books/articles about this, or any other method

Most of the people he killed were male. He started with his room mates who I believe made some comment about his suspected homosexuality (you can look into it).

Elliot's roommates were nerdy Asian guys he felt superior too. He fought with them frequently and made violent threats against them. I don't recall him ever mentioning them calling him gay I think you are mixing that up with the guys who beat him up on Del Playa street who called him a faggot after he walked in demanding his sunglasses. I personally do not buy into the "Elliot was gay" theory. Having read his manifesto he mentions childhood crushes on girls, he mentions a strong sexual desire for women and went out and actively tried to get a girlfriend (by this I mean he went to a frat party stood in the corner and waited for a woman to walk up and blow him). There is also no weird shit about him hitting on guy friends or anything like that in it either. I believe the reason people think Elliot was gay was because appearance wise he was very much twinkish. He looked gayish and had fairly gay mannerisms because he was an autistic rich kid.

I wonder if his mother was part of the problem. I wonder if she was self-hating and projected her insecurities onto Elliot. I’ve seen that sort of thing with biracial people, where the parent of color projects onto their half-white children.

From what I remember she spoiled the hell out of him. He never had to do anything until he was over at his father's.. and that was just barely.

He was incredibly sadistic towards his stepmother and at one point thought about killing his younger brother because he was more popular.

Might be a dumb question to ask, but for all Elliot goes on about hating "whores" (women in summer dresses really), do you think if an Anisa Jomha type (OF borderline abusive girl who would reveal all of his personal issues publicly) approached him, would he have taken her, and thus become another modern iDubbbz? I could see that happening. There wasn't really any outcome that was going to end well for him.

His videos and manifesto are the epitome of bathos. They remind me of William McGonagall attempting to write serious poetry about alcohol abuse or the Tay Bridge Disaster but the rhymes and the unnecessary personification are just so ungodly clunky it becomes accidentally funny instead.

How the fuck did this guy inspire anyone to go on other mass shootings? I get it for racial or political shootings, hell even school shootings make more sense. But to be inspired from a guy who had the looks, had the money, and had the connections to not be an incel... It just don't make any sense. Hearing his story should put proof in stone for any moron that women come if you can fucking talk to them. I'll have to do more reading on dipshits like Mercer and Minassian I suppose but in general this guy is such a fucking loser and yet some how even a total open faced shameless loser can attract sycophants.
