I think people are looking for a savior, a "Good King" who will come in and right the wrongs and punish people and restore order, and they're desperate for it. It explains a lot of the weird hero-worship that Elon got when he first became "MAGA." He's a rich guy that has enough money and influence to swing his dick around, so if he's on our side then he's surely going to do it for us, right? And people don't want to believe that he's got his own interests - a lot of them nefarious or otherwise in contradiction to theirs - that could undermine their goals. It's probably a portion of why the "backlash" on Elon is so rough, because a lot of people really wanted to believe he was /ourguy/. I think a lot of it is also an inability to really criticize Trump as well, because at the end of the day Trump is the guy who picked him to be on the team, and was the one who picked the Indian who kicked this whole thing off. Some people are still in electioneering mode, where critiquing your candidate is going to lead to people having second doubts about voting for him. But he's already won, so why should legitimate critiques be held off?
