Today I was driving to Walmart when I noticed a person squatting in the gutter next to the empty lot across the street from the Walmart. At first I thought it was just one of the local gas huffers, but as I approached I noticed that this person was 1) female 2) had blonde hair 3) had a camera and 4) was decked out in cheap Native American jewelry from one of the road-side stands. As I got closer, I saw what she was taking pictures of. It was her toddler playing in a puddle in the empty lot.

Now, this town is a drug and crime riddled shithole, and that lot in particular attracts a high number of homeless and drug addicts. It's riddled with needles and broken glass. People dump their dead fighting dogs there, and they decompose until (if) the city picks them up. I have personally seen homeless people pop a squat and shit in that lot. This dumb white bitch is so far up her own ass and convinced she's been whisked away to the land of the noble Indians who love one another and take care of the land, she photographed her child playing in a homeless drug addicts toilet. I'm not exaggerating when I say that poor kid very likely has some kind of disease now, and I just hope he didn't accidentally prick himself and now has Hep C.

It shouldn't be the first thing you talk about, sure, but she's really missing a lot of context on this. You can't just say words are always bad. I'd expect a sociology professor to understand that a bit better.

Transvestite comes from when crossdressers were included in trans, and now they are again but just using the name non-binary, so it's all better now. Nowadays it's pretty much only used by fetishists, but at least the TV/CD crowd don't try and put themselves on the same level as real trannies, but yeah. It's a completely different thing, and is insulting to call an actual tranny a transvestite, but the word itself is not offensive. It's like trying to say you can't say black in spanish.

TBH back when this was all widely acknowledged as reasonable terminology I was totally cool with the whole trans thing. There were terms that were reality-based and recognized that trans people should actually, y'know, transition and not expect everyone (including strangers, not just people who owed them friendship or family loyalty) to immediately bow to their self-identification. Now, any term that recognizes the reality that being trans isn't exactly identical to not being trans is triggering. Anything that acknowledges a person might not have been their chosen gender in every way from the day they were born is transphobia. "Trans" is now a haven for cluster B people who realize it's a "control people around me" card to play.

It amazed me how quickly things in this sphere went from a pretty sane place they'd been at for 20-30 years (being trans is something that causes intense dysphoria relating to the body, if you're trans try to assimilate into your chosen gender, it's fine to accept your whole history before your transition and say "back when I was a man" or "when I was called Jane" or whatever) to, within a span of less than a decade, being about linguistic control and imposing full-on science denialism on anyone wanting to be a party-line liberal.

This stuff is backfiring in a big way. When everyone who won't blindly follow gets called a "TERF," people look up actual radical feminists and become reactionary radfems. I have often wished that the "truscum" faction of trans would start taking coordinated action to wrest back the language and tell the public that the trenders don't represent the entire group, but I think the reality is grim: the trenders now vastly outnumber the people with the actually rare dysphoric condition.

Maybe it was inevitable in this movement specifically because of the rarity of actual dysphoric people. Even if only a fairly small percentage of people with other psych conditions adopt a trans identity, they will immediately dwarf the population of dysphoric people.
