It will re-emerge in some form sooner or later, same for places such as Kiwi farms and all the dark places rotten bastards like us lurk online. We live in a society where it is often unsafe to walk down street alone and terrible actions are done on the regular... only an idiot would think it's viable to stop people making of fun of the chronically pathetic.

I've thought for a long time that ED died off because it was largely ineffective as a source of information. Low-effort niggerfaggot spam, gore and goatse gets old very quickly. Quality control and informative content is why the Kiwi Farms, CWCki, Know Your Meme (which I remember ED hating), 1d4chan and other archives of internet culture have continued to survive well over a decade past ED's prime while Youtube has seen an emergent and popular sub-genre of videos about the kinds of topics, events and people ED used to "cover".

ED is really only good at look on obscure early lolcows and internet phenomenons. The newer articles are either tryhards, repetitive, and possibly biased to the right.
 
ED is back up on the .se domain, not all images are back yet. Also the site has been down for much longer intervals in the past.
