Other notes - .............My god.... This... is one of the most HORRENDOUS things that I
have EVER seen in my life.... Even BEFORE I watched this episode, merely hearing things and seeing screenshots from it... I KNEW that it would be heinous... But it’s a completely different experience to watch it yourself.... By the way, I’m still going by the idea that the APC versions of Ren and Stimpy are NOT the same characters as their 1990’s versions....
So, remember how in the previous episode Stimpy allowed Ren to abuse him constantly? In THIS episode, it starts off with Ren doing something OFFSCREEN that’s so horrible that Stimpy calls Ren a monster... Yeah, bear the episode Stimpy’s Fan Club in mind, and you’ll probably realise how concerning this is - Stimpy is a VERY forgiving individual... So, from the start, the idea that Rendid something THAT horrible to him is pretty disturbing.... But wait, it gets worse... After five of the most BORING minutes of Ren walking down the road to a psychiatrist, Ren goes to M rHorse, and starts giving him his backstory.... ALL of his backstory, even when he’s... born, and his parents and doctors were smoking and gambling around him, and apparantly Ren wanted to inflict pain to prevent him from being hurt that way again - even though he was only, what a MINUTE old and probably didn’t have ANY semblance of memory, vengeance or any proper EMOTIONS at that point?! Er... I don’t like where this is going... I REALLY don’t like where this is going..... By the way, the INSTANT I saw them smoking around a baby, I IMMEDIATELY put 9 on the disturbing content scale - that’s all it took - but believe it or not, it gets worse...
He pulls legs off caterpillars (okay, the original Ren nearly pulled the wings off a fly in
Jiminy Lummox... But wait, it gets WORSE), licks a tick really painfully, sets fire to ants in a
scene that is dragged out as LONG as possible - because our writers think that being as creepy as hell can be considered comedy (er... this just got REALLY... concerning... But wait, it gets WORSE).... and then he finds a frog in the swamp. This is where things get BAD... I mean REALLY bad...
If you don’t want to put HORRIBLE mental images into your mind.. you will want to back out NOW... Okay... here we go... The APC version of Ren sticks DYNAMITE up the frog’s butt 0_O, rides his bike over the frog so his GUTS spurt out (GOD!), and then, he... *sees him in his parents’ car and SMOKING * er... APC Ren... what IS that? *’I needed bigger wheels to do my sacred work...’* Wh-what do you mean by that? *sees APC Ren zap the frog with the car battery hooked up to him, the frog writhing in pain* JESUS CHRIST! Is.. is this supposed to be FUNNY?! No.. the writers CAN’T be THAT stupid... The only way that I can see them thinking that making Ren ELECTROCUTE the frog is that they’re trying to show how DANGEROUS he is to that poor frog... Which they’ve already done NUMEROUS times!
*and then the frog catches fire, and the frog yells in agony* And then, the frog begs APC Ren to put him out of his misery, but then, when APC Ren realises that the frog WANTS the frog to put him out of his misery, APC Ren decides to KEEP the frog alive to continue the poor things’ misery, and then he walks off, smoking with another little boy.....I... I have... NOTHING. I literally have NOTHING to say to this... Look.. This goes BEYOND sadism.... I know that the original version of Ren and Stimpy had Ren being a bit of a sadist, but this show has gone PAST the point of no return with the APC Ren’s cruelty... This character is a MONSTER. A LITERAL MONSTER. Dare I say it, but I think I have a new most hated character in animation... The APC version of Ren Hoek - the 1990’s version is one of my favourite characters, the APC version may have actually surpassed PIPPI LONGSTOCKING in terms of how much I hate him..
And in the next scene where the frog continuously begs APC Ren to kill him... Er, guys, you
need to help me here... I thought Ren and Stimpy was once upon a time a COMEDY show....
Needless to say, this demented CRUELTY isn’t funny... It’s not compelling, and it isn’t even
SHOCKING anymore! After Onwards and Upwards, let’s call it what it really is.. DESPERATE.
I like how the writres are playing the normal classic stock music, another trick to fool us into
thinking that this is ANYTHING like the original show.... APC Ren’s parents call him in to
confront him with what he’s done, and they slap the brat like he deserves... And the writers
try and work in more horrid gross out humour... URGH. APC Ren’s parents tell him to finish
the job. His mom says ‘What are you doing?! Giving a GUN to our little boy? Here... use this
chainsaw!’ Oh... GOD. That line was.. SO infuriating... Yeah, this episode fluctuates between
being boring, infuriating, terrifying, disgusting and depressing..... APC Ren’s parents see him
go outside, they have a brief talk, bitch-slap, and... KISS. Er... yeah, I don’t know...But needless to say, the PUKESTAIN APC version of Ren, throws the por frog into the BIN instead of killing him.... OH GOD! He IS my new least favourite character in animation! GOD!! But of course, our writers think that PURE sadism is funny... And the APC Ren talks about himself hitting APC Stimpy over and over.... Need I remind you that the APC and 1990s versions of Ren are NOT the same character? And then - *sees a horrible close up on Ren’s face* OH DEAR GOD! Never, EVER, EVER show me THAT again! Eurgh! And I thought STANK BREATH had a horrid close up!
After... THAT - Mr Horse tells APC Ren to spill the beans. He does, with some really
overly detailed drawings of APC Ren and Mr Horse.... And next, comes probably the most
infamous part of the episode... Mr Horse tells APC Ren that he’s ‘F***ING crazy’. Okay, I’ll
admit - that’s the one moment in the ep that got a laugh out of me. And it’s the ONLY true
line in this episode. Mr Horse says to APC Ren that he should be locked up, and starts to beat him up... And then, out of nowhere, APC Ren goes insane and beats, scratches and claws Mr Horse to DEATH. YES. APC Ren is a MURDERER... I WOULD like to say that the designs when APC Ren is clawing Mr Horse looked cool - like a Gremlin - but IT’S A VERSION OF REN DOING THIS!! I mean, Ren was beaten up quite a few times in the original show, but in those cases, he kept... SOME kind of moral compass and sanity... In Stimpy’s Fan Club, he was able to STOP HIMSELF from killing Stimpy in his sleep... Here, he KILLS MR HORSE. My heart was literally POUNDING in my chest when I saw that scene.... Two guys from the looney bin come to take APC Ren away, but Ren BITES OFF ONE OF THEIR HANDS and SWALLOWS it whole.... *covers mouth with hand * GOD - Not since FELIDAE has a piece of animation shocked me so... But Felidae was MEANT to be scary - THIS IS REN AND STIMPY!! 0_o
Luckily, the two guys manage to take him away to the looney bin.... Then, the poor frog from earlier comes in, finds Mr Horse’s gun, and... okay, if this episode has ANYTHING...
ANYTHING, it’s that the frog manages to put himself out of his misery....
.........I have no idea what the hell these writers’ problem is.... Perhaps they were trying to
put some trauma they had by writing it into their stories, or maybe they have some
kind of horrid mental disease.... You know, when I finished Onwards and Upwards, I thought
that the writers of the Adult Party Cartoon would realise what mistakes they made and TRY to improve... Just TRY.... But... the more I watch... The more I become convinced that this is
NEVER going to happen... These people behind this cartoon are completely BLIND to what
made Ren and Stimpy good in the first place... This episode proves that they have NO
grasp of what made the original cartoon good. It’s almost like they thought the ONLY thing
wrong with Onward and Upward was Stimpy’s obliviousness to Ren’s cruelty... Not the sadistic cruelty that lasted all the way through, not the broken story that ripped off the original show and took out of nowhere twists, not how HORRIBLY unfunny it was....
I’m keeping it in my mind that the APC characters are NOT THE SAME CHARACTERS as their
original counterparts, so it won’t taint the original show for me, but if just ONE fan of the
original show, just ONE, saw this and were put off the original show FOREVER.... it just eats
me up.... This episode, like Putting Your Hoof Down, Pet Sitter Pat, One Coarse Meal and A
Pal For Gary, has the potential to KILL a beloved character.... Yeah, quite frankly, that’s
DISGUSTING. And it’s boring.... Oh, GOD, is it boring! When all that an episode can do is
terribly written attempts to put fans of the original show, attempts to scare and disturb your
audience, than it goes to show you’ve messed up MAJORLY, and should REALLY re-consider
your job as a living human being.....
So, two down, four to go..... Worst one out of the way... hopefully...
