The entire moderation team resigns, effective immediately. This resignation is done in protest of the Core Team placing themselves unaccountable to anyone but themselves.

As a result of such structural unaccountability, we have been unable to enforce the Rust Code of Conduct to the standards the community expects of us and to the standards we hold ourselves to. To leave under these circumstances deeply pains us, and we apologize to all of those that we have let down. In recognition that we are out of options from the perspective of Rust Governance, we feel as though we have no course remaining to us but to step down and make this statement.

In so doing, we would offer a few suggestions to the community writ large:
  • We suggest that Rust Team Members come to a consensus on a process for oversight over the Core Team. Currently, they are answerable only to themselves, which is a property unique to them in contrast to all other Rust teams.
  • In the interest of not perpetuating unaccountability, we recommend that the replacement for the Mod Team be made by Rust Team Members not on the Core Team.
  • We suggest that the future Mod Team, with advice from Rust Team Members, proactively decide how best to handle and discover unhealthy conflict among Rust Team Members. We suggest that the Mod Team work with the Foundation in obtaining resources for professional mediation.
  • Additionally, while not related to this issue, based on our experience in moderation over the years, we suggest that the future Mod Team take special care to keep the team of a healthy size and diversity, to the extent possible. It is a thankless task, and we did not do our best to recruit new members.
In this message, we have avoided airing specific grievances beyond unaccountability. We've chosen to maintain discretion and confidentiality. We recommend that the broader Rust community and the future Mod Team exercise extreme skepticism of any statements by the Core Team (or members thereof) claiming to illuminate the situation.

We are open to being contacted by Rust Team Members for advice or clarification.

Sincerely,
The Rust Moderation Team (Andre, Andrew and Matthieu)
I can assure you the resignation is real. And we have chosen not to name names or divulge specifics that could implicate anyone. Even so, we felt that we should state our reasons for resigning to avoid people making up their own drama.

Very vague accusations because we don't want to cause drama uwu. Also links to a Reddit thread (dual archive) that I didn't find helpful at first glance.

This is recent news:

The Rust Foundation gets ready to Rumbul (we're sure new CEO has never, ever heard that joke before)

I remember reading that code of conduct. I laughed my fucking bollocks off, and vowed to never use that language/framework ever. My mortal enemy could have a Web app or whatever based off it and I just straight up wouldn't even bother learning it to hack it because Rust is that fucking gay.

What's the Core Team? Is that the group of people that develop the language and are therefore the only people involved with Rust who actually matter?
Yes but they have all been part of the ridiculous code of conduct being brought in. Then they aren't adhering to it themselves.

If you fancy a laugh...

The world only needs C and HolyC.

Everything Mozilla does now is pure cancer.

Everything Mozilla does now is pure cancer.
While this is true, Mozilla pretty much got out of the Rust game. Fired everyone on the Servo team (which was creating a browser in Rust and as I recall was getting some of it components integrated into Firefox), and most of the Rust language developers they were employing.

See more in this most recent Rust drama in the Open Source Software Community topic, some familiar troublemakers are believed to be behind this.

Rust has such a subtly bizarre reputation from the soy/bugpeople and trannies that proselytize it and try to push it into absolutely everything for no clear gain (and with a strange, bug-eyed, jehovahs witness kind of fanaticism, I might add) to basically being everything wrong with modern tech with that CoC and insane library dependency webs (?) that I have to admit that I actually and fully out of reflex never looked into the language. It might be ingenious for all I know. I say that as a guy who actually likes to experiment with any kind of new or weird language and can always find a few things I like about them. I don't even like to participate in gay language slapfights online! Something about Rust and the people that represent it just makes it impossible to take serious for me.

Was there a power struggle? Did the white guys who just like to code (so, the obvious maga nazi chuds) have a night of the long knives and got rid of the discord tranny jannies? Is there an Indian that actually knows how to write decent code? Will we ever know? Will I ever care?

Aww, what's the matter, your gay little CoC stopped mattering once the cards were down and you risked losing a critical programmer? Your jannies get pissy that the actual coders wouldn't kiss their feet and beg for mercy?

Cry more, little bitches.

If you feel your tranny jannies are so power mad that they're a threat to your project, maybe it's time to layoff some (unpaid) positions!

Tranny tyr-anny for the common man while the core cabal walk free! It's not right!
