I made a post in the Cartoon Industry thread wondering about this by using A Pup Named Scooby-Doo as an example.

Essentially the TL;DR boils down to how a drawing is intentional due to the thought process put into its composition, so it's more likely than you think that animators may have snuck in their fetishes into the cartoons they worked on in the name of "It's just a silly children's cartoon, bro" but this current generation is too autistic and had their brains fried by the Internet to know how subtlety works.
