Epic! 8-bitguy uses 1 weird trick to detroy rare prototypes!

Three pages in and nobody has mentioned the recent screeching on Twitter over The 8-Bit Guy's "problematic" open carry videos?
every single retro computing autist on the world wide web seems to have heard of david violently murdering this innocent ibm prototype with a paper clip, so i feel like the usual suspects on twitter trying to cancel him over something unimaginably stupid is even more of a given than usual. even jason scott was being a whiny bitch about it a couple days ago

i have never given a rat's ass about david's content before and i would love to know if there's actually been a sizable decrease in his subscriber count

I thought it was common knowledge that David is a firearms enthusiast. Airguns in particular. I have no opinion on firearms, but I love how David casually orders a sandwich whilst wearing an assault rifle (even if it's probably an air rifle):

He's got over a million subscribers. I don't think he'll miss a couple of thousand hardcore autists unsubscribing.

While an old PC with 4 extras and no storage to speak of is no big loss, the dude is clearly too lazy and incompetent to be doing these videos. Hell, just look at the video, first thing is does is whine about a two hour drive to get a free, possibly valuable prototype computer the world hasn't likely seen in over 30 years.

Normally in these repair videos he usually ends up taking the thing to a friend who knows what they're doing so they can fix it for him. I wonder why he didn't do the same thing this time.

Her smile and optimism: gone.

They both look like old people already. :story:

In the first picture it looks like he's 27 and she's 22 maybe. A five year difference.
In the second picture she looks to be in her late 30's and him in his mid 50's, let's say it's a 13-15 year difference in physical appearance.

If she packed a full stack of dumpster genes she could even be his late-20's daughter that have four kids already and no longer gives a shit.

They also need to fix their cold, cold lights, it looks like a hospital waiting room. Look at how the shadows fall, like the lamp to the left. It's so evenly lit that the space seen looks tiny, like how the right side of the cabinet behind his head looks to be against a wall not that far behind him, but it is also behind the dining room table which is farther away. At a glance the eye/brain does not read the space correctly because of the lights.

God damn that is a tl;dr of ranting. Essentially though he fucked up the thing because he's lazy and wanted a video now. Thank god he'll probably never have access to a PC with valuable data on it.

Like he said his channel is watched by a lot of kids and he doesn't want the comment section filled with cuss words. He normally doesn't do this but has mad an expection this time because its gotten so bad.

I can't hate on 8-Bit Guy too much. He doesn't shoehorn woke shit into his videos and I like the shit where he talks about the history of Commodore and tries out hobby kits like the Color Maximite. I don't really watch him for his technical prowess. I just like to watch someone fuck around with all the shit I can't afford and don't have the room for. Not someone I would simp for or send stuff to or anything like that. I was very surprised to learn he wasn't a 40-year-old virgin because he certainly comes off as one.

You're probably right! Enough of those retro tech channels have given me creeper vibes. All I'll watch now is LGR (until he goes woke)

LGR is full of shit. He's nearly two years younger than me and pretended he grew up with the C64 when he appeared in one of 8-Bit Guy's retrospective videos. No fucking way dude.

It was a Ruger 10/22 rifle in the picture that I saw. Pretty dumb rifle to walk around a neighborhood with.

There's a million things you could say about that picture and you're worried about the lighting! He does his own wiring, his ceiling probably looks like the runway at Heathrow.

I didn’t know that 8-but guy had so many detractors. I couldn’t imagine caring about some old prototype computer enough to dislike him, seems like tech nerds just get a kick out of going turbo autist over this stuff. I just like to see him demo old computers and keyboards, don’t care about the other stuff

Eh, he might played a lot on his father's C64 in his childhood or something.
Plenty of people bought one without any real need and didn't buy a new computer until much later.

I looked at his age and he's born in 1985. At his age it's entirely possible that he played around with the C64 as a kid, they stuck around in closets for a long time. For a kid in the early 90's wanting to play games it would be tempting to hook up an old machine with a billion pirated games on tapes. The C64 would be like one of those horrible 100-in-1 cartridges except there's 10,000 games and some are good!

So, the 8-Bit Guy has uploaded this (unlisted) video addressing the IBM controversy:

That's not helping, David.

The C64 stuck around until the early '90s, so it's entirely possible that the C64 was the one and only computer in the Basinger household when Clint was a little kid. Even if it wasn't, it's probably an early case of giving a kid an obsolete computer to play with. My spawn got his first PC, an old IBM ThinkStation, when he was 2.5 years old... he played the shit out of GCompris on that thing.
