🐱 Epic Games Allegedly Terminated Contract Of Worker Who Called Out Misgendering In Meetings

CatParty

The ex-Epic worker tells us that trans staff are repeatedly misgendered in meetings due to a lack of pronoun sharing.
Epic Games is accused of terminating the contract of a worker who raised concerns over its diversity practices, despite receiving positive performance reports. The allegation was made today by the worker in question, who says their concerns regarding Epic's pronoun practices were ignored.

Going by the pseudonym Gregor, they detail the termination in a thread. Gregor, who uses he/they pronouns, also tells TheGamer that queer people are not safe working for Epic, with trans staff "misgendered on the regular".

"Epic Games fired me for speaking out about their internal diversity practices for pronouns. They said it was about performance. This is easily proven wrong, as I have documentation from 3 days prior describing my performance as 'exceptional'," Gregor writes.

"My contract had been extended through April 1st.I had emails and 3 separate meetings about this the very previous week," they continue. "The outsourcing company said I was more than welcome to apply to other jobs they had, meaning they knew it was bullshit, and paid me for the remainder of Feb."

Speaking to TheGamer, they explained exactly what concerns were raised, which pertained to sharing pronouns during meetings.

"Both Slack and Zoom allow for optional pronoun display behind your name. They [Epic] REFUSE to enable this," they told TheGamer in a DM exchange. "You can opt in/opt out of displaying it, by default it's opt out. That's literally all we wanted, to be able to opt in.

"I had two trans friends leave early from dysphoria/depression on a few notable occasions when they were misgendered publicly in large meetings."

They further claim that two others lost their jobs on the same day, although they do not know if this was related to the pronoun concerns.

Publicly, Epic Games has always been eager to appear LGBTQ+ friendly. The company is yet to respond to the allegations put forward by Gregor, or to reply to TheGamer's request for comment.

Just don't have an HR department. What do they do other than bother everybody?
The purpose of HR is supposed to be to protect the company from employee bullshit. If you are a manager they are your best friend, especially if you have an employee that is a pain in your ass. They will help guide you and cover your ass if you listen to what they say.

If you have a problem that gets escalated up the chain in HR, you should be worried as the higher up you go you start to bump into the real snakes. The front line workers are going to be the nicer ones.

They may virtue signal, but when push comes to shove they will throw you under the bus if you are too much of a pain. Probably the virtue signaling is a way to just make themselves look better, see we are not really snakes we care.

lol No HR is there to make sure it's a safe work environment for everyone, sometimes employees or just skeevy and they have to do the dance to cover their ass legally to get rid of shitty bigot workers that they fear are litigious little punks. HR is a godsend to everyone in the company and makes the environment easier on everyone, that is if you have one that does their job and doesn't just cowtow to shitty managers that cover for shitty employees.

I worked for one of the largest IT/Consulting companies in the world; every week was an HR feel good about black/women/diversity history month or other shit, to include "Hey, our CEO is a woman at the top of her game." I literally had a "Company Shills" email folder where all that shit went to. I had at least one email in the folder every fucking day.
I accepted it as a necessary cost for working with a multinational company at this point.

At least they're largely ignorable.

Found the HR snake.

Someone anonymous saying something on Twitter isn't actually a "source" for news and you really shouldn't grant that persons claims legitimacy by calling them "the worker in question" and "ex-Epic worker" unless you confirmed their employment. No company is going to respond to "allegations" made by someone who might not even be an employee just because you e-mailed them about something you saw on Twitter but couldn't wait for a response before publishing this clearly important breaking story.

Make sure the corporation is in compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations regarding employee treatment. The rest is just useless jannying and sadly, they don't do it for free since its all done during working hours.

There are certain things every company over a certain size needs in order to be taken seriously and unfortunately, an HR department is one of them. It's kind of like if you booked a really expensive hotel and they didn't have a lobby; just a vestibule with a couple elevators--technically, there's nothing wrong with that, but it comes off as weird and off-putting.

The best of them act kind of like a pre-legal team, preventing the company from getting sued by documenting everything and avoiding risk, but far too many of them have been brainwashed into thinking they need to be "agents of change" or whatever.

Fuck these people, I've worked at ups for 20 odd years now and if I take a spill on the ice or something, I am required to report it, and the first question out of the supervisor's mouth is 'you can keep working, right?'. if I landed on my knee and walking was hurting, the next question is 'Can you keep going for another hour or two, then we can see about getting another driver to come take some of your stops?'. I pretty much have to lose a body part or die for the supervisors to begrudgingly accept that I wont be making any more deliveries that day. The 'oh no, I just feel depressed today, I'm leaving early' crap just tells me they work an unimportant job that contributes nothing to society, and should be discontinued.

Until a manager starts not keeping his hands at home, and under the skirts of interns.

Then it's all preemptive firings and threats of slander lawsuits.

Something doesn't add up here. Drivers are unionized and the teamsters don't fuck around. Believe me I've dealt with enough shitty drivers that were untouchable due to their union. Of course you have to report an incident, even if you are okay. The next dumbass might not be and they may want to put some cones out. They also probably assume you're an adult that can tell them if something is wrong. Complain to your union rep if they aren't working with you. Surely someone with 20 years seniority would know this?

HR is there to make sure you don't get raped in class-action suits over discrimination. Since there are no regulations, and case law is Calvinball, they make sure you're on the bleeding edge of whatever today's most progressive thing is, on the assumption that in a couple years, it'll get rolled into Civil Rights Act jurisprudence.

When you have actual workplace bullying and toxic employees, and it's for anything other than race or gender, they don't do shit.

Are you a troll because I've never seen anyone have so many retarded takes before.

The teamsters union has been a joke for the last 10 years, they've used stupid rules to push through contracts to further divide the union voting base. The last union leader vote was a farce where the ''new opposition' party of the union got handed over to a guy who was one of the leaders in hoffa's old group until he got salty about someone else getting the job he wanted. I'm one of the better informed members of my union, I watched the debates between them leading up to the vote, they both preach about 'diversity and inclusion' while refusing to answer if they would protect teamsters who don't want to get the shitty jab. Both sides were sending me those 'vote for me' messages, and both of them told me they would remove me from their message list rather than answer any questions I had. The local union rep is pretty bad too, when she has to be in a meeting with someone and the management, she'll sit over on the management side of the table and agree with them on most things. If you're one of her favorite people, she'll move mountains for you, but everyone else gets a bare minimum of effort. The union will keep me from getting fired if I'm willing to fight and will ensure I get disability if I get hurt, that's about it.

Sorry for the sperg out there, but the teamsters of today is NOT the teamsters that I joined let alone the teamsters of yore.

Gregor, who uses he/they pronouns

So Gregor can be called "he" without a problem, right? Unless it's deadname Bethany and everyone is annoyed with the obnoxious poorly passing Aiden they have to deal with daily. I'm thinking the latter.

So if a person is she/them or he/them do they expect you to use "them" on occasion to validate their identity? Any kiwis know a person like that? How excruciating does the pronoun thing become in their presence?

Glad to see Epic Games told this tranny to fuck off.

The troons will outlive their usefulness eventually, once they're no longer needed as a tool for the left or if the pendulum swings too far to the right. Once that happens, no one is going to sit around and tolerate their annoying time wasting bullshit anymore. They'll just have to shut up about their pitiful first world problems because otherwise they'll be unemployable.
