I installed epic for one game and I bought said game on sale on Green Man Gaming. Holy christ the launcher is worse than Origin and uPlay though. It somehow has less functionality than either. You can't even gift someone a game.

The new update to Playnite has integration to Epic/Steam/GoG/Amazon Prime gaming so I highly recommend it if you have been grabbing the free games from Epic/Amazon Prime games. Its just a better experience overall.

Typically. I think there might be a couple of perma-exclusives or games that got absorbed by Epic and need Epic to function like Rocket League or Killing Floor 2.

So, Sins of a Solar Empire 2 has been announced as Epic exclusive. I am proud to say that so far enthusiasm among the Sins of a Solar Empire community is about zero as a result. Thankfully, Tim Sweeny will be buying everyone free copies out of the goodness of his heart.

I feel like announcing Epic exclusives nowadays is like announcing a beta test. The Epic userbase gets to deal with all the bugs and patches for a year and those who want to wait for it to go on Steam get a mostly finished product

I don't know the lore of why Tim Sweeney is a Fag? All I know is that since epic has been around I've gotten hundreds of dollars in free games and massive discounts, which admittedly are now tapering off.

Not to be the contrarian but I heard about this with ooblets, if the game is not multiplayer who really gives a fuck? I bet the developer appreciated the extra money for a game that otherwise might not do that great. This reminds me of the Sony/Xbox console wars. It's like people don't have anything better to worry about. It's not like they are ripping the consumer off.

That is one of the silver linings, a significant portion of the games that sell out to Sweeney end up not being worth the bother anyways. The early access comparison is surprisingly appropriate given how many EGS exclusives end up falling somewhere between mediocre and half-baked trainwreck. For every Hades there's 2 or 3 Saints Row tier titles.

I never fault an indie dev for taking the 6mo/1yr exclusivity deal. Money up front will usually keep them afloat or give them capital to make updates. It's when they are cunts against the backlash or it's a kickstarter with goals for steam/gog keys that I nope the fuck out.

Full agreement. I don't blame devs who take this devil deal to keep their business alive another year, I blame that fucker Sweeney for his practices. So long as there isn't a bait and switch, I'll at least forgive that decision, if not the vile turd that is Tim Sweeney.

How is it fraud or bait and switch? You're still getting the game. Epic is way less annoying than Origin.
In my mind this is some "Mommy I told you I don't like crust on my sandwiches!" level stuff. It's not even like with Sony buying the rights and making you buy a whole new system. It's free regardless.

They don't have a monopoly and never did. At no point did they actively poach games from alternate distribution platforms, which by the way started popping up as soon as steam got big, and there are no significant barriers to entry that they impose in the industry. Epic, on the other hand, actively attempts create an artificial monopoly(albeit time limited) with their exclusivity deals. Your talking points are bad and you should feel bad.

You do realize the 30% take goes down when a game sells a specific amount of copies, which is different for Triple-A and indie devs. Combined with the fact, with that 30%, devs are allowed to make keys they can sell on various key sites and make more cash for themselves, without giving steam a cut.
