Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

First, I wanna say, fuck off Epic, you did not need to snag Tetris, you fuck right off with that. This shit can't be worth it for Epic for people to be constantly mad at them every week, but I guess it is because they keep doing it.

I've never heard of it, but I guess if you like Tetris its Epic Game Store for you
If you have a PS4, it's worth checking out, especially if you're into Tetris. A beautiful looking game.

Honestly, EA already ruined tetris so I don't care what epic does with it. Can't get a fucking endless tetris on my goddamn phone anymore because EA decided 150 lines is the only mode anyone wants to play. Fuck you EA!

I heard Tetris 99 is coming to mobile, so you can dunk on kids with all your Tetris training

What is tetris 99?
It's a battle royale mode for Tetris. You attack 98 other players by stacking efficiently and hitting them with garbage blocks in the process. It's free to play on the Nintendo Switch. I am not good at Tetris and I'm sure I'm mostly going against people with years of experience, so I get wrecked fairly often. But if you want to test your skills against the masses, it's worth keeping an eye out for it when hits mobile

Tetris Effect was hailed on the PS4 as one of the best VR games, wasn't it? So they took a game that's great for VR away from the one PC platform that does a good job of supporting VR gaming. Great.

It's a rock and a hard place situation because it's absolutely a pain in the ass to have multiple accounts, launchers and passwords.

But on the other hand Valve has been resting on their laurels for too long and competition is good, but is Epic the kind of competition we need?

I don't know man, I just really miss the days when everything was on Steam and Valve actually made games.

I more miss the days when Best Buy and Electronics Boutique were stocked to the brim with big-box PC games.

Oh that too, big-box PC game boxes make my willy stiff.

But the modern digital era peaked in 2010/2011, when like I said everything that was released on PC was released on Steam and Valve was still very much a game developer and Episode 3 will be any day now, right guys?

They aren't competition, though. They're paying for exclusive monopolies in an attempt to force people to use their platform. That's the exact opposite of competition. Say what you like about Valve, they haven't pulled that bullshit.

(Yes, there are games that are just on Steam. No, they don't force this. It's just that many devs don't bother selling elsewhere even though they could.)

Steam already has competition, other companies just don't bother branching out out of the convenience Steam. Epic isn't creating competition, they're throwing around a bunch of money to hold games hostage on their terrible store that doesn't even have a shopping cart or wishlist. If they actually focused on building a respectable store they would be getting far less shit. I still can't believe they're doing it. Putting money into upgrading the store now is surely cheaper than the shit they're doing now and would get them far less complaints in the longrun

I didn't say Epic was competition, I said "is Epic the kind of competition we need?" implying that it's not the kind we need.

Or just wait for GoG Galaxy 2.0 to do that for you.
The utility of a password manager far exceeds what you need for just your video game stuff, it's just generally a good idea to use one. Especially for KF stuff, I couldn't possibly keep track of all my different accounts and passwords without one.

The argument for Epic and against Steam seems pretty territorial to me. Most people don't like change, especially when it feels enforced on them. I imagine the people who are against Epic are probably just used to how the way things are and perhaps that's how it should be.

It feels like a non-argument. I had a friend who felt cheated about Metro Exodus and the affair between his pre-ordered digital copy and the fact it wasn't gonna be in his store of choice. He was really mad and kept telling me how awful it is that he has to download a different client for a couple of games. This same person also has UPlay, Origin, GOG, Battle.net, Gamespy.net, OnLive, and even the MicroSoft Store all on his desktop as a shortcut and he sees no issue with this
