TGWTG Eric Rodriguez / E-Rod2010 / The Blockbuster Buster - Edgy Nostalgia Critic Fanboy/Knockoff

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I loathed the hell out of E-Rod for the being the worst Channel Autism contributor out there. The fact that The Blockbuster Buster was retired two years ago because of the sudden Covid death of his wife She-Rod is nothing short of tragic. No one deserves to die from that. I heard that he is doing reviews as himself since then, so is he doing his own thing so as to completely distance himself from that character?
I mean if he’s doing the exact same thing without the character, what’s the difference?

He's dropped the character of the Blockbuster Buster but he still opens his reviews in the same way but as himself.

And I called this happening. He was going to keep sucking at what he does but he'd wind up doing it as himself. No more sketches, no more magic hammer, no more "busting" bad movies. And it's not like anything of any great importance was lost for the show that is. Yes. His wife died and I will never make fun of the man for that. But he's still shit tier, bottom of the barrel when it comes to what he does.

bitching about celebrities who are not known for voice-over work doing voice-over work (something that he also complained about during the review of "Smurfs 2" regarding Christina Ricci and JB Smoove
Funny because JB Smoove voices "Frank" in the Harley Quinn cartoon and he's praised the hell out of that.

I mean if he’s doing the exact same thing without the character, what’s the difference?
It means he's growing as a content creator and branching out. Duh!

But seriously what else is he going to do? It's not like he has any real skills.

I just can't get over how bad the cover of his book is. From a straight on perspective, it's difficult to discern just what is going on, and the background is garbage. The text around the cover seems to be taking precedence over the image itself, which works when you're buying for the author, or the cover image is incidental. But this is a kids' book (YA?), so the cover should be eye catching and make little Sally beg her mom and dad to buy it for her when they walk by the book isles at Target. A witch dick is a bit goofy, but it could work and it certainly has potential in the visual realm; yet his artist takes zero advantage of this. If you're looking, you can see the sneakers, you can see the magnifying glass... but both are obscured by the small size of the figure and the overall silhouette. Plus that sword... it could not blend in more if they'd tried.

While I'm no artist, and generative AI is still sloppy, I think this illustrates how the idea could be improved: TURN IT! An ominous hand tends to work a bit better when it's not coming toward the camera out of a sandworm's anus. Maybe she's leaning down to look at the sword through her magnifying glass with a bit of mischief on her face. You could show off her dumb sneakers, the sword, the "witchiness", and the detective stuff all at once. Dynamism is important.

Not that any of this matters. His book won't sell well, and from the prose in the preview text, it should not have even been published. It all screams amateur and low effort... which sadly sums up a lot of Erod's efforts throughout his public life.

Let’s forget for a second that this isn’t Channel Awesome's first book, and that Lindsay's literary acclaim is about as nonexistent as a new season of Firefly:

Erod is that kid in high school who couldn’t stick to a single identity because he was too busy copying whatever was trending—one week he’s a goth, the next he’s a skater, then a stoner, whatever. So I wouldn’t trust him to come up with anything more than a mediocre copy of something original.

His late wife called herself his producer in one video, so I'm thinking that might be a big reason her death led to the end of the Blockbuster Buster reviews
Yeah that's why he dropped the character and the skits and everything. I mean he might be bottom of the barrel when it comes to former Channel Autism producers but you can't help but feel bad for him on that.

He still sucks but he's no longer about busting bad movies and pretending like he has a magic hammer.

I didn't even know this dude was still around. Thought he fell off the earth years ago. Always thought he was one of the weakest TGWTG contributors. As far as Great Value Nostalgia Critic clones go he's pretty bottom tier.

As far as lamest producer? Yeah probably. A lot of producers on that site I thought were lame as fuck though. Like, I never got the appeal of Angry Joe. I tried desperately to like his videos many times but something about him always got on my nerves. I'm amazed he got as big as he did, even surpassing Doug in popularity with his YouTube channel making him the most popular of the former contributors. I never liked The Lightbringer either. When I did go on the site the only people I cared for were Doug, Noah, Brad and Phelan. I couldn't give a fuck about anyone else. A lot of them I don't even remember the names of because towards the end of the site's run there were way too many fuckers to keep track of.

And that's just Channel Awesome proper. We’re not even getting into the knockoffs: Chez Apocalypse, Reviewtopia, the League of Super Critics...each somehow worse than the last. The Agony Booth tried pivoting to video then vanished behind a paywall no one asked for and no one uses. That one stung. Their Star Trek reviews were great. Then they swapped it all out for dudes in sunglasses doing “bits” with cigars and evil villain chairs. Bleak.

We already had Brad, why did they need another porn critic?

Does Brad even review porn anymore? I haven't seen a Snob episode in a long time so I'm not really sure what he's been up to.
He basically stopped after Water Power. I remember vividly Brad getting pissed in the Spoony forums at some guy (me) who called him the dude who reviews '70s porn. Just absolutely lost it over being accurately described.

Dude reviews porn, acts surprised when people make fun of him for reviewing said porn lmao

I liked Angry Joe because he was passionate about video games. Behind his anger was a genuine love for the entire industry.

I never gave a shit about 99% of the creators because they were shitty Nostalgia Critic knockoffs to begin with. Channel Awesome should have picked better creators. I did like all of Doug's videos, Lindsay Ellis, Cinema Snob, Angry Joe, and Spoony.
