I think what really happened in the last decade or so the black chruch really declined it can even be felt in politics during Obama's first campaign stopping at chruchs played a huge roll now they never come up. And I think that really became noticable when blm became a thing. The movement had nothing to do with the black chruch at all unlike social movements in the black community in the past, but is often anti religion in general.

Black mainline churches went the way of their white equivalents and endorsed "progressive Christian" theology; this means that they began to die off as organisations.

Black Baptist churches or Catholic parishes are still thriving, but the AME Church will be as dead as the Episcopalians in 20 years.

There are Catholic churches with black membership comparable to that of an AME Zion, but they wouldn't stop you from attending if you were white. You might get funny looks if you were the only white guy there and they didn't know you. At least other than churches that focus on inclusivity (real inclusivity not the SJW version), most churches are willing to have any soul there willing to be there.

I was gonna say New Orleans is probably the biggest in the US for black Catholics. I lived down in Lousiana for a few years, and one of my best friends down there was a black woman from my church.

Yeah, but Louisiana has a lot of French influence, so that's why the slaves brought to Louisiana tended to come out Catholic versus whichever flavor of Protestant. They also had different slave laws based on the French (Code Noir or something) and its one of two states that doesn't have counties. We had Parishes, and I think Alaska has Burroughs or something.

Like I kinda thought that there were black Catholics based on the fact that there was an organization that use to exist that was called the society for colored Catholics and there was a black catholic congress that existed yeah but I guess it’s just that I assumed that they were an insignificant minority
