"It's sooooo obnoxious when people shove their religion down your throat! It's okay when atheists do it, though!"

The only thing that makes this story bearable is that it was on Not Always Right and is therefore fake 100% actually happened.
Yeah, because when I leave a badass tip for the waitress, I totally tell her I'm not going to tip her at all. Because fucking with someone over their livelihood is so witty.

Is it that hard to make up a believable lie?

I mean, a shitty church crowd can easily exist, that's not what really gets me there. They tend to mostly just get drinks and soak up tables that could otherwise be useful, and the more dickish ones do genuinely drop tracts or other pigshit like that.

But then they just go for something that would never happen. I've never seen anyone tip that fucking much unless it was a big dinner at a more prestigious restaurant. And I've also never seen anyone be a troll about giving a tip either. Is it stupidity that makes people want to lie? Is that it?

Its a large part of it. It's been my experience that people, in an effort to appear smarter or more interesting than they actually are, will present urban legends or old jokes as honest-to-God facts. The fact that it didn't actually happen isn't as important as the fact that it makes them look good.

There's one I've heard many times. It's a PC support worker telling the customer to box up their PC and return it because they're too stupid to own one. Have heard several people swear they said it to a customer... But I also remember reading the same story on the Internet. In 1996.

As I mentioned before, I'm in a religious studies class; occasionally, we'll have to read something euphoric. So I was reading an article on the Heaven's Gate cult and read this closing paragraph:

Holy shit, I want to copypasta this everywhere.

Considering this closing paragraph, a euphoric would no doubt try to disagree by saying the science used by Germany was done by a man that many claim is Christian (The whole debate of Hitler's religion is nothing but a clusterfuck if people really tried to insist he was Christian or atheist. Wasn't it said he imagined a future where the Germans wouldn't need religion anymore?). Even then, everything within human culture can be screwed up, not just religion. All takes is someone who insist their own belief is right to the point that it literally harms themselves or others.

Hitler wasn't a Christian or an atheist. He was a politician. And euphorics have clearly never heard about Hitler's Table Talk. Anyway, even if Hitler really did self-identify as an orthodox Christian, the argument is irrelevant because it takes more than just self-profession to define one's personal identity, especially with this kind of thing.

Here's a good article I found on Hitler's religious/nonreligious beliefs. It contains a lot of notable quotes from Table Talk which seems to showcase Hitler's rampant anti-religious (and even non-atheistic) views very well.

Funny side-note -- the base website is called "kiwicatholic.com":

@c-no Is this the quote you were thinking of? There are many like it:

"Our epoch in the next 200 years will certainly see the end of the disease of Christianity. It will last another hundred years, two hundred years perhaps. My regret will have been that I couldn't... behold <its demise>."

"Science cannot lie, for it's always striving, according to the momentary state of knowledge, to deduce what is true. When it makes a mistake, it does so in good faith. It's Christianity that's the liar."

Perhaps they should call the Hitler mustache a lipbeard.

That may as well be the quote. If euphorics have to mention Hitler being Christian, they should know of something called pragmatism and appealing. That is what Hitler did as a politician in riling the masses to his side. He appealed to them.

What I never understood about this debate, is why the fuck does anyone care whether Hitler's religious or not? He's a psychopath who manipulated a nation into committing horrible atrocities. It wasn't about religion or atheism, but a twisted bizarre racial philosophy mixed with extreme nationalism. Whether Hitler was Catholic, Atheist or Scientologist is completely irrelevant to the crimes he committed.

Because people need a nice strawman to knock down. Euphorics love the "Hitler was a Christian!!!!!" argument because they feel like it somehow invalidates the fact that Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot murdered people because of an atheistic ideology.

Really, it all ties back into their inability to accept that people of all groups, including religious people and atheists, have done horrible things in the name of their beliefs. They believe that the world will become a paradise- or at least much better- if we abolish religion, completely ignoring the fact that most of the conflict and violence in the world stems from things that have nothing to do with religion. Things are rarely black and white.

That sort of argument doesn't invalidate anything. If anything, it may as well show that regardless of ideology or religion, we will have a tyrant that kills people based on the ideology the dictator has, whether it's thinking his people are God's chosen master race or that religion is just a tool of the bourgeois to control the people. Regardless of what we try to eliminate, we can still tear each other apart over something else.

And as we've seen with the current state of feminism and social justice movements, you don't even need deities to whip people into a brainwashed, outright superstitious ghost-chasing frenzy.

wow Golly gee! What an insight! We can't have political extremism without politics, either!

The text in the green square certainly is bogus, but "Michael Swarbrick" is a smug douche, too.
