Most people- Christians included- agree that Young Earth Creationists (the people who believe that Earth is only 6,000 years old when in reality it's more like 4.5 billion years) are batshit crazy. That extends to people who think that the world was created in literally seven days. Hilariously, they're not even doing the "literal interpretation of the Bible" thing right, either; the meaning of "day" in the original Hebrew text actually translates to "a period of time," which can range anywhere from one day to a billion years. So instead of "seven days" it's actually "seven periods of time." It's very ambiguous, which makes interpretation of the text that much laxer.

Anyway, merry Christmas lovelies! You guys are amazing and I've loved all the discussion and debate in this thread!

The problem is when you get the batshit crazy ones that say because A is real in the bible then it must all be real. I think Ken Hamm goes on about that and not just the Jesus stuff but everything.

So that means to these guys there was a literal 7 day creation, worldwide flood and talking snake. Luckily they are in a minority. Problem is they're usually the ones with the loudest voices.

I don't see how this is sanctimonious. I mean, this has been a said a thousand times before, but it's still a valid argument. If some religious people heap scorn upon atheists, then I don't see why atheists should just take it and shut up. If I am an atheist, I have to be able to deal with criticism. The same goes for religious people. Religions can be critisized and mocked the same way as everything else, they're not sacrosanct.
