I don't see how this is sanctimonious. I mean, this has been a said a thousand times before, but it's still a valid argument. If some religious people heap scorn upon atheists, then I don't see why atheists should just take it and shut up. If I am an atheist, I have to be able to deal with criticism. The same goes for religious people. Religions can be critisized and mocked the same way as everything else, they're not sacrosanct.

Get real. It's got nothing to do with your powerleveling. Go debate semantics someplace else.

It does however, have everything to do with your autism, and complete failure to get the gist of the thread.

This is about the staggering hypocrisy of euphorics and the even worse self satisfied smugness of people like Fucky Gervais.

Sure enough there is smugness and hypocrisy, but it goes both ways and the whole phenomenon of "new atheism" or "euphorics" only exists because both believers and non-believers keep egging each other on with ridiculous copy-and-paste polemics.
Twitter might be a good place for succint witticisms, but I wouldn't take anything on there too seriously.

Sure, religion should be open to criticism.

Now, imagine if, in criticizing atheism, someone used extremely poor logic and displayed a complete lack of understanding of what religion was or how it was practiced. How would that affect the criticism itself? The ability to criticize something is directly connected to your understanding of it. Notice that this thread is called "Euphoric Athiests"... Meaning we aren't mocking all atheists, just the ones who make their non-belief their defining trait.

At least that's the idea of the thread. The reality is most of the posts here are "lol he doesn't believe in God what an idiot."

If you've ever seen Ricky Gervais do his stand-up comedy you'd know exactly how smug and sanctimonious it's supposed to sound when you read it. Try reading it with a big grin you can't quite control because you're so amazed at how clever you are.

The only time we should let Gervais have air time is when it involves making Pilkington say completely retarded things. And that ship sailed long ago.
