Betcha if you brought up the atrocities committed for non-religious causes or by non-religious people, they'd spin their wheels like Michael Moore passing a Krispy Kreme.

My experience with this is that they usually just pull out the crusades as a lame attempt to trollshield and try and get back to foaming at the mouth about this stuff.

Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Pol Pot all tried that once. Didn't work.
By renaming God "Dialectical Materialism".
Marxism-Leninism is very heavily monotheism-inspired, complete with chosen people (the proletariat), apocalypse (world revolution), paradise (classless society), hell (punishment of the capitalists) -- and they soon enough went Spanish Inquisition on non-believers.

Believe it or not a lot of human rights actually come from religion. The Jews were probably the first people to say "hey let's not sacrifice humans," when everyone else was doing it.
INB4 euphorics try to use the Abraham and Isaac sacrifice. Granted, while it would no doubt come off as a dick move from God, the purpose of it was for God to see if Abraham was truly willing to follow. As such, Abraham actually didn't have to kill his son as a sacrifice. If one were to try and refute the human sacrifice thing, one would better off research and see what other cultures from that time period didn't practice human sacrifice.

I've heard that, too. Actually, even though "an eye for an eye" (which is a thing in the Old Testament/Torah) seems bad to us today, it was actually created as an attempt to put an end to the violent overreactions that were the norm at that time. It was more an urging to moderate one’s acts of retribution and limit one’s response to an injury by only taking an eye for an eye. For instance, don’t kill someone who had merely stolen from you. The punishment must fit the crime.

Later on, Jesus took it even further by saying "turn the other cheek." In other words, don't seek retribution at all.

Matthew 5:38-42 said:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

It was also a specific legal reference as the Code of Hammurabi outlined precisely this set of punishments.

I honestly don't even know where to start with this one so I'm not even gonna bother commenting on it. I will, however, say that this story is obviously 110% real and in no way faked for imaginary internet points.
"I need to be a little more deliberate with my teachings."

Horseshoe theory motherfuckers!

My favorite part is at the end: "knowingly or unknowingly." Remember, if you unknowingly aided child molestation, it's still your fault, even though you didn't know and had no way of knowing.
