You're forgetting the one reason they're so lulzworthy, that invalidates all logic you just put forthWouldn't an "atheist prayer" essentially be "hoping"? As in, expressing a wish that a good outcome will arise from the current situation, regardless of probability? Isn't that the basis for hope, which is the basis for prayer?
If that's true, I don't see any reason an atheist couldn't "pray", even if they don't attribute or direct their "prayer" at any deity, but instead simply recognize that what they want is unlikely to happen, but they want it anyway.
And if that's true, there's no reason for an atheist to be upset at someone "praying for them", because regardless of their rationale, it's still something that should be seen as beneficial.
