The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) has announced that it will stop publishing content on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, from January 20th, 2025, when Donald Trump will officially become the 47th president of the United States.

The organisation stated that it can “no longer ethically participate in a social network that its owner has transformed into a machine of disinformation and propaganda”.

It joins The Guardian and other European media outlets including Dagens Nyheter, La Vanguardia, Ouest-France and Sud-Ouest in coming off the platform, due to the impact of Musk on the organisation.

The EFJ is the largest organisation of journalists in Europe, representing over 295,000 journalists in 44 countries has announced that it will stop posting content on X.

The company’s general secretary Ricardo Gutiérrez stated:

“After the US elections, EFJ pointed out the threat to democracy and freedom of expression posed by the cooperation between the president of the most powerful country in the world, Donald J. Trump, and the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, who is also the owner of social network X and has been appointed to lead a “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) when Donald J. Trump takes office as president on January 20, 2025.

“We cannot continue to participate in the social network feed of a man who proclaims the death of the media and therefore of journalists”, said the president of EFJ, Maja Sever.

“The social media site X has become the preferred vector for conspiracy theories, racism, far-right ideas and misogynistic rhetoric. X is a platform that no longer serves the public interest at all, but the special ideological and financial interests of its owner and his political allies”, he writes further.

“The editorial evolution of X, since its acquisition by Elon Musk, is simply contrary to our humanist values, our commitment to press freedom and media pluralism, and our fight against all forms of hatred and discrimination. The decision to suspend our @EFJEUROPE account seemed clear to us and we invite all our members and all organizations defending freedom of expression to migrate to other platforms.”

It's funny because one of the reasons for switching to Bluesky is apparently how quaint and homely it is, absolutely no Drumpf here!

Well here's 300,000 fucking JOURNALISTS, get fucked lmao. Lube up for the rage bait.

Can the BlueSky servers even support the influx? How can it continue without generating revenue?

Doubt that's what it means. It will just mean that the EFJ official account will leave twitter, all the journalists will still post there. Same as the Guardian's flounce a couple of weeks ago. The Guardian twitter account doesn't post there anymore, but all of their journalists still do on their own pages and they can and do link to Guardian articles, which the still do. It's a little bitch move of no actual consequence because they all stll need twitter to drive clicks.
Yeah it's just some irrelevant, 30k follower account.

That will last all of two weeks before they realize they can't get any engagement or make any money on the alternate platforms. On Bluesky they will end up on blocklists right away, and on the Fediverse they will be trolled to death by free speech instances before they use a blocklist to stop it, and inevitably are blocklisted by all the Mastodon't instances themselves. The Fediverse doesn't like journalists or doing other people's work for them.

People on X are eager to blather their worthless opinions about almost any subject so a lazy journalist can make a "Top Ten Reasons Why Millenials XYZ" article out of them. Journalists need X more than X need journalists.

I guess the European Federation of journos doesn't like freedom of expression and the pleb being able to reply to the elite.
Most euro media (especially the publicly funded ones) dont allow for any user comments.
Euros pay for it and then they cant even share their opinion on it.

It wasn't even 4 years ago when the Biden administration colluded with Google, Facebook and Twitter to censor people who opposed certain Biden administration policies. Journalists were jubilant that this was occurring.

According to these journalists propagandists the "threat to democracy and freedom of expression" isn't government collusion with social media companies censoring citizens critical of the government. The threat is allowing citizens to express their free speech rights to oppose the political machine that has been funneling these propagandists undue money and influence.

Musk has the ear and favor of the incoming POTUS, but now that the Europan Federation of Journalists have denounced him for 'racist, far right and misogynist' stuff, he's just going to break down in ceaseless tears. How can he ever recover?

This is going to cause the opposite effect of what they want. Instead of the audience going to flock to them on Bluesky they're going to stay on X and read right wing journalists instead. Which will eventually cause the population to pay even less attention to them overtime. It's similar to how Disney and other companies eventually came crawling back to Elon after stopping ads because they didn't get increased revenue on other websites.

Chris Chan has moved to Bluesky. A true and honest measure of the character pool building up there.

It's funny they don't even try to fight this so-called disinformation. Sure, retards, run away to your hugbox. I'm sure that'd convince all normies you're totes right.

This can only improve the quality of journalism because it surely means an end to all those garbage articles based on a twitter thread, written by social media addicted journoscum that spend all day on twitter before remembering that they have a deadline to submit their article.
Wait, what do you mean all those articles are now based on Reddit threads these days?

Yeah it's just some irrelevant, 30k follower account.
I looked through their twitter page and mostly it seems to be tweets about supporting the EFJ president in whatever she does. And I'm guessing that as the president, she runs the twitter account herself, so it's mainly just one woman posting in the third person plural in support of herself. No wonder they had to go out of their way to find a photo of Elon looking pensive to truly illustrate how worried he's going to be at the loss of this important account.

This would mean free fodder for twitter users to repost screenshots from elsewhere to get all the engagement/likes/retweets.

I'm staggered that Europe has that many journos. The only thing happening in Europe is the slow fin de siècle as it turns into an Islamic migrant cess-pit, and the fuckers refuse to report on it.

There can't be that many soccer results.

Well, we have two media systems: the government sponsored propganda apparatus the citizens have to pay for under threat of force public broadcasting system and the corporate media. Most of the latter also is subsidised by the state in one form or another; there's a lot of overlap and collusion going on in both systems. It allows for a massive army of "government and status quo and leftism good, everything else bad"-tier NPC-journos that overwhelm you with their nonsensical noise.

Good riddance. Fuck these people. They can get stuck in their own propaganda circle and stop fucking with the rest of us.
