So he finally implements a save system almost 5 yrs in, and he lets it ruin his game by allowing save-scumming. Typical Alex. Was it really too hard for him to make it so that you can only save at the beginning of each week? That would've been the perfect way to implement it imo.

It's a good thing he's enabling save scumming. When he actually adds enough gameplay for people to atleast do some kind of playthrough and be able to do more than just walk around a boring demo, they're going to need to save every few minutes lest their progress gets ruined by spaghetti code induced game breaking bugs.

I'd go with a "save and exit" approach personally. IMO, it is the most convenient option if you're trying to avoid a save scum mechanic, since it lets you quickly exit the game if something comes up while you're playing without having to worry about hitting a specific point in the game or running to the nearest save point or what not. I think it is also better over limited saves because sometimes you have 20 or 30 minutes to kill before you go out and just want to mess around in a game and not actually make too much progress, especially if you're just setting something up so the next time you're ready to play, you can dive right into the gameplay.

I think I'd rather prefer save options at the end of the day. That way if you do mess up you have to go through the whole day, and unless you're making use of the skip time options the day lasts for quite a long period of time. He has a house for the player just make the save location the bed to sleep for the day.

Poor Alex. He can't even implement a save system he made by himself

Guess that means I'll have to give him some pay me treon shekels :(

Fan logic in a nutshell
Breaking down any game always leads to unoriginal code somewhere down the line. All the way from the compiler to the operating system you use just to code. Not everyone is an elite programmer who can write everything from scratch, YandereDev is one of the few cows who at least acknowledges that his coding skills are not all that great. A valid criticism is how he put this feature very late in development.

This part here is dumb, using other people's libraries is NOT a bad programming practice, it's the opposite.

I'm not defending Alex's programming skills, they're still awful, but saying "he should not use other people's code" is just wrong.

In hindsight that was a stupid post like many of my posts.

also, new video time! will edit in my thoughts after watching

alex talks about prototyping but didnt think of that when making characters feel like characters, when he decided to add 100 students, insert literally every other major decision he's made prior to this

this game's writing is terrible. try prototyping that with some rough drafts for once and then actually make it good.

did Alex just take all the credit for the save system he stole off the internet?

"so I developed"

he did

small nitpick but who refers to crashes as "crash bugs"?

ok alex even I know this, don't plan out DLC before a game is released

verdict: alex has learned nothing everyone!

- Can't discipline himself to create a serialization system(something that C# has BUILT IN at a language level to handle), and properly implement students and actors and such into a properly represented STATE that isn't just a maze of if-statements
- Can't discipline himself to fix the bugs in his own code for 2018.3 to get the dramatic performance benefits that he would need
- Can't discipline himself to create an inventory system(and makes careful sure to not mention the open-skirt inventory system that he considered in the past and got backlash for)

I like how he had himself drawn with a round face and "cute" upturned nose.

I like how he starts out with "I have not made any progress on the last checklist I showed you, but I made another checklist of minor things so I can show progress". But he did progress, I'll give that to Alex, it's much better than just adding 5 characters a month into the game. And now he wants to do another "let's talk about another game that inspired me" video, because he hasn't done one in a year. On the poll on what kind of videos he should post, his bootlickers actually want more slideshows with Micheala struggling to sing to take up his time.

Fucking finally.

*Ah yes, replace the eerie simple end of the day report with crappy visuals. We can read, I don't understand why we both need a visual and text.
*He spent an entire month working on 3 things, then by the end of the month he thought about said things then realised they're all a bad idea. Classic.
*He wants to make two videos per month for the lulz.
*Is gonna make a let's steal video on the mysterious third game that inspired YanSim
There. I just saved ya 8 mins. Instead you wasted 30 seconds reading about absolutely nothing. Damn Alex.

I've never been so bored skipping through a video.

This guy just straight up admitted that an entire month's worth of progress was basically nothing.
It's kind of sad how he keeps trying to convince people that he isn't purposefully prolonging the development of the game just to get more patreon money, and then shit like this happens.

Another poll again? No point having a poll in the first place if the outcomes of the polls are going to be the exact opposite of what Alex does.

  • Natural for game development to scrap through some implementations which fail, but still not worth making a whole video about it. At least he does link his viewers to his blog though.
  • For someone who dislikes people talking about his past, he sure wants to talk about his past which the video shows a clip of "Lunar Scythe". Even I really don't give a bother about it.
  • lol DLC for a game that hasn't even finished as a V-slice prototype yet
  • If you enjoy making videos examining video games, you might as well make a YouTube career examining video games and using that YouTube income instead of relying on Patreon to work on your game.
  • As of now I'm posting the poll for "Yes, it bothers me" is at 11%. Don't be surprised if Alex decides not to makes videos unrelated to Yandere Simulator because of that 11%.

Alex:
Boohoo, I can't keep up with making new video every two weeks, I feel pressured to add another meaningless feature just to make a video about it.

Also Alex:
I don't want to let my youtube channel stagnate. I love making videos and, if possible, I'd like to release 2 videos per month, even if they're just for fun.

I bet youtube ad revenue dropped.

If you read this thread, it's a reoccurring theme you're going to see here, with people bitching about minor shit like his use of pre-made assets or "other people's code," while generally glossing over his bigger, more Autistic shit. This is not their fault. Yandev hits exactly one note and the legitimately entertaining or interesting shit tends to get discussed to death, leaving the stupidest shit to nibble on for those who arrive late.
