I think the story would make a great manga/webcomic or even a text-based narrative, but as others in this thread have pointed out it's too ambitious for an independent video game.

A significant portion of Saikou Corp's success can be attributed to its founder's extremely strict hiring policies; he insisted on employing none other than the brightest minds in the world, even for the most menial positions in his company. In fact, he refused to hire a secretary for nearly a decade, because there was no one who could meet his astronomically high standards: an IQ above 140, multiple doctorates from a prestigious university, and prior experience as the CEO of a successful company. In addition to these criteria, he also insisted that his secretary was exceptionally attractive. "Excellence" was never enough for him; only "Perfection" would suffice, and so he refused to be represented by someone whose appearance could be described as anything less than ideal beauty. At the end of a decade-long search, he finally found someone who met his criteria and desired the position.

>CEO of succesfull company becoming secretary and fuckdoll of some old man who invented everything in the world
>Story that would make great comic

Dude, say what.

Yeah, Alex's story is totally retarded and explary of how he sees others.

The final rival whose name literally means something like 'Perfect Goddess' was born an heir to the biggest company in Japan, she's a genius and fully trained in self-defence. The entire school was constructed to 'train her to be the perfect CEO' by her parents, who are also two CEOs. One of which is the CEO of the company that makes literally all technology or some dumb shit.

She has always excelled at anything she tried and people automatically like her, and people who were jealous of her automatically liked her once actually meeting her.

This isn't just anime bullshit for the game, Alex had always had these dumb 'extreme' views of people. When asked about victims of school shooters Alex said something along the lines of "Were they innocent? Or were they bullies who delighted in the torment of others, those people don't deserve to live." He feels the same way about people who don't like him, that they want to turn him into a receptical for malice, which we saw with the hate and shame video.

Alex really doesn't have any actual friends so he's incapable of understanding that people are nuanced and often contradictory.

As a writer, I can attest to the fact that world building is a great way to plot out a story, figure out your characters and how they would react to the plot, and how the story should flow. Thing is though, you're supposed to actually create the story. Whether it be writing or filming or coding, if you're writing detailed profiles of characters but not giving them something to do, then you're just wasting your time

I'm not a writer, but in my opinion what makes characters good is not that this info exists, but when they behave like this info exists, only you should figure these things out by yourself. But most importantly some things should be left without being established to make them more humane.

Yeah, his extreme views were clearly noticeable as early as in his Lunar Scythe plot description. The whole big tiddy goth girl killing evil people. He hasn't matured a bit in that regard since then.

But this description of Megami's mother bothers me especially because it also shows his blatant sexism.

It was actually reviewed in the beginning of 1700tish pages, IIRC the points were that he never uses best OOP practices and his “student” file still 20k lines long with over 400 configurable variables

To add from myself - Unity, starting 2017 version I believe, has tool called ”Scripted objects”. It allows you to create templates of items/npcs and also makes easier to make a kind of two-way bindings (I.e. actual player health and displayed on the screen).

I checked his code last time in March, and there were no scripted objects whatsoever, he used giant json files to store data instead. Don’t really think it changed over a month.

ScriptableObjects are just a way to uplift non-component data classes to a level where you can connect them via the GUI like they were actual unity components. They've been around since like 4.0 and have some limitations (you can't edit them at runtime for one) but they're really good for situations where you' ve got a bunch of static data you need to reference at design-time in the editor (e.g where you'd use a lookup table in lower-level languages).

The json approach is actually a standard workaround for the scriptableobject limitations, but unless students are changing during the game in a way that changes a ton of their data it's probably unnecessary.

I think the story would make a great manga/webcomic or even a text-based narrative, but as others in this thread have pointed out it's too ambitious for an independent video game. Especially when you factor in the supposed changes in gameplay/character responses stemming from the player's choices, which is something that even Triple A games have yet to really nail down. I wish Yanderedev would focus on adapting the story to a different medium instead of dragging his feet on the current game but again, that'll never happen.

Character responses don't have to be true to life, there's a lot you can do with 3 or 4 character "states" that would be affected by a small number of variables. Literally figure it out once and have every npc refer to the same script.

The thing is if the fundamentals were strong yandev could have spent years tweaking it to make it seem like each character was unique. Since he jumped in head first it's an unfixable mess.

This is the classic writer's advice: show, don't tell. It is one of the first things taught with creative writing, and separates an anecdote from a true story. Alex prefers to introduce a character who exists to provide trivial exposition on demand about any character in the game, leaving the player nothing to figure out for himself except what sequence of events Alex would prefer him to use to eliminate the rival (because every other possible method has been forbidden by Raibaru as an 'exploit' or something).

It's clear that Alex has a penchant for Mary Sues. According to the lore of the game Alex drummed up for... Lunar? Luna?, she was also somehow free of sin (which I find highly unlikely since she wanted to murder people based on her own morals, which are subjective), and was why Death took pity on her. And then she is freely given the opportunity to murder people because she feels justified in her killings, committing many, many sins of serial murder. The game was most certainly a projection as it lines up well with his own views, as you say. A common theme for Alex is using a female avatar to carry out a desire of his, which is no different here. Makes me wonder if he thought he was free of sin himself when he made that game.

But this description of Megami's mother bothers me especially because it also shows his blatant sexism.
You mean the part where the founder of Saikou Corporation had unrealistic expectations of a secretary so didn't have one for over a decade, and finally hired Megami's mother because she fit his unrealistic expectations, and when he took interest in her as a marriage candidate subjected her and her family to a background check to make sure she is not genetically imperfect before proposing?
Yeah I don't know what you mean, having a staunch belief in Eugenics is completely healthy and normal. /sneed

But on a more serious note, Alex spends too much time making up stories about the characters and the world of Yandere Simulator (and trying to justify why Yan-chan needs a fake ID to buy porn) but doesn't spend enough time making any actual progress on the core mechanics of the game to justify it.
Game first, story second.
Updates consist mostly of bugfixes, easter eggs, or side content that doesn't need to be in the game. He's also very active on Reddit, Twitch, Discord, and YouTube. I realise I'm beating a dead horse with this critique, but it once again owes to his own poor time and priority management.

If alex were smart and not a control freak he could have pulled a dark souls and hide the non existence story in cryptic item description and let autists came up with their own 30 hours video story explanation themselves. Like this part sound ridiculous when the developer said it but if vaati or whoever says "according to the teddybear panty description..." it suddenly sound genius.

Indeed. I forgot to mention it but I do agree with the "breadcrumb of information" approach which you get in-game by picking up items and piecing the information together. Show, don't tell. It's what he stared doing with the tapes but then abandoned it. Instead Alex relies on his blogs, YouTube, and the wiki to do that for him.

A lurker, a first time poster and a former fan here
How are these people? children? still waiting their ass for a game that nearly take a decade to progress? even suggesting taking more breaks for him?
When will they finally snap out of it? took me 3 years and felt like absolute dumbass ever liking this game (:_(
Don't feel dumb. It took me about 3 years to learn he wasnt great and then even then I held onto optimism that maybe he would take critiques and improve. I'm still optimistic that he will finish the game, or at the least, finish Osana, but I'm not optimistic that the game will actually be fun.

Has anyone posted his latest video yet?

Hard at work coding, I see.

Something is fishy about this. The comments are from 3 years ago. Is it possible he made an unlisted video public? Does it show unlisted videos as recently published if you make them public?

when he inevitably gives up, can you please take up the story and fix it

Consider it done lol. I'll even name it "Lovesick" because why not.

You basically just described show don't tell. It's supposed to be obvious enough through their actions that if you do tell, you have to not only tell something interesting, but something that would be too hard to simply show. You also know what makes show don't tell even better? When you find out all the additional info about a character AFTER you finish engaging with the product. Idk, I feel like revealing such detailed profiles of your characters and the world they live in before your game is even 10% complete just takes the fun out of it. It's one thing to go in, learn everything, then replay the game with your new knowledge (btw, this game has no replayability, and Alex knows it. Why do you think he's coming up with new methods every day?), but to start out a game knowing everything you need to know about the characters, the plot, how to win (which defeats the purpose???? Hello???????), etc...what's the point?

I know, but I would like to stress the last sentence - some things in my opinion you don't show and don't tell, so the reader could make his own conclusions. It's like with the real people, there can be a lot of stuff which just isn't obvious until special circumstances. Also, autists like Alex would just make their characters do and say all sorts of shit just to show how deep they are.

Yes, the Discord API doesn't allow for searching your official server list, but as you said there are many methods to scrape servers and find out who's in that server. I wouldn't even say that mods are even visiting these servers, it's very easy to use auto generated accounts and a proxy to have the bot itself scrape a predefined list of servers.

So bots may not be able to get your official server list, but regardless, it's just semantics as to how he invades your privacy in the eyes of the Discord TOS. It may not be a complete look at your server list but rather a bot-assembled look into a subset of your server list. Which is sort of the point, Alex is invading people's privacy by doing that.
Absolutely, don't understand the smoothbrains voting Dumb/Disagree on what I said when it's 100% true though

Hey, I didn't say all of the story was good. I do think Megami's story has the potential to be really interesting but I do agree that the parts about her grandpa are super skeevy and weird. I do think it could easily be altered to be more palatable, though.

Don't even get why is he making a stupid nonsense private video public.

What's even weirder is that he just uploaded a new video... on his EvaXephon YouTube channel. Yes that's right, EvaXephon and can't believe I have to type that name again.

tl;dw version: Eva misses the point of why is he streaming instead of working on the game.

He hid the like/dislike ratio. It's almost like he knows that people aren't going to fall for his bullshit...

It's like he kneejerk reacts without listening.

Here he's arguing that he only plays video games in his spare time, which accounts for the streaming. I could accept that if the game progressed at a reasonable pace.

He claims to work 8 hours a day in his hypothetical. Considering the platforms he patrols (Two Youtube channels, at least one Subreddit, Wikipedia, Discord), and with how quickly he responds to e-mails in his tireless efforts to silence criticism I'm going to have to put a big fat doubt on that one; there just isn't enough hours in the day. Silencing criticism is not work.

And the video, although the production value isn't as high as it usually is, that still took time to make. And I really doubt he took the time to make that video in his spare time, because he uses that to play video games according to him.

It's clear he doesn't understand the criticisms at all, just what people are saying at him. But arguing with the internet who criticise him for not being productive when he could be doing something more productive is his M.O so why am I even surprised?
