And there lies one of the many problems: adding so much unnecessary shit that you develop those instead of focusing on the main aspects, a classic pitfall of creators. Seriously, how much of the side things that Alex put in the game in the name of “lore” could be cut without losing value? Alex seems to seem to have so many ideas that he put them all in without realizing fat could be trimmed or could be better left on the wiki (and even then, you could just give fans enough for them to make fan stuff on their own) or in a notebook to only be brought up when a fan asks you about it when you’re shooting the shit?

Alex tried to suck up to anons, but they weren't some 10-year old weebs, so they could see through his bullshit, and when they refused to kiss his ass, he run to the hills of Reddit hugbox. Stretch Goals can be great.
The problem is that most Kickstarter/GoFundMe/Patreon project owners are assholes.
Get a good project, there is no problem.
Get a bad project, you are fucked.

Mighty Number 9, for example, turned into millions of dollars of heroin and cocaine, and about $10K worth of game.

Shantae Half Genie Hero turned into a pretty good game.

Both had stretch goals.

There's also Shovel Knight, which had a shit ton of stretch goals met but the devs released what was promised at launch. Then over the following years they implemented every single one of them and the game only got better because of it. As in, the game has like more than triple quality content for free now compared to vanilla. Though I'm not sure if that happened because they were decent devs or because they planned to work on the stretch goals later after a solid release.

Hollow Knight is another example of developers holding up their end of the bargain for stretch goals. Yes.
Though, admittedly, I think that flak is lame. Even if you agree with the idea that depicting the harm or murder of teenagers is wrong (it isn't), it's low hanging fruit that doesn't actually focus on any of the shit that actually is unethical (like pedophilia both in game and out, the creator abusing patreon by doing non-updates or token updates, etc).

The real issues for Alex including guns, admittedly, is that he wouldn't even be able to pretend it was Japan, he wouldn't be able to have invincible rivals, and he would have to learn how to program and balance guns.
