I wonder how he's going to react when he releases his "99% gameplay 1% story" mode, and realizes nobody really gives a fuck about the janky ass gameplay. At this point he's running a BATIM situation, where the community is more invested in the lore they built up themselves than whats actually present in the game. Detaching to a whole new mode with new chars loses that.

Adding a rival would not be as simple as just spawn a student with specific appearance and adding a cutscene upon their deaths.

A rival need to feel like they are in a completely different category than other students. A rival needs to have a very carefully designed daily routine that puts them in close proximity to senpai or numerous witnesses at nearly all times.

A rival needs to have special interactions with senpai.

A rival needs their own sidestory playing out in the background.

A rival needs to have a confession cutscene under a cherry tree as well a cutscene for being rejected by senpai.

But Alex will go with a method, that he himself considered half-assed.

It would be easy to just tell a game to spawn a student with a certain name and appearance, but that would not be the same as adding true rival to the game.

Remember, regardless of what he says about wanting to make things for the current fans, he's also been extremely explicit about trying to bring the gremlins into supporting him, so that they'll back his kickstarter or patreon or what have you. The Gremlin reaction was "Lol dumbass is giving up on the core concept" and then suddenly he's not doing any of that sandbox at all, and he's focusing entirely on the 10 rivals, which is totally what he was always gonna do. But he's worried that the Gremlins will point and laugh at how shit they are, and that'll become the gremlin perception of the main game.

Alex here thinks he's got it clever, being able to throw out any and all criticism about his rival experiments by segregating them into a whole separate mode. Of course, thats not how reality works at all, and the fundamental design failures in these new rivals will reflect what comes of the 'final' rivals, as Alex has shown repeatedly to not be able to learn from any of his design mistakes. All he's doing is wasting another couple years making shit thats not what he promised to deliver, to try and deflect criticism of it when he inevitably fails.

I genuinely wonder if its delusion or ignorance thats leading him to think he can just reconvince everyone who saw his shitty decisions the last seven years to suddenly come back and totally give him money. Is he deluded, avoiding the reality of the consequences of his actions? Or does he genuinely think he can just turn people around, as if the entire public perception of the project was just a score system he can increase with sufficient 'good' actions.

Alex, if you're reading this, and I bet you are, that's never going to work. At absolute BEST you could, with extreme effort, bring people from the "fuck no" camp, to the "Maybe I'll buy it on release" camp. The goodwill you burned that would convince people to publicly back the unfinished development is gone for good, its not a resource you can ever restore, for this project or any other. You've proven yourself untrustworthy with getting paid up front, and that stain will never go away. The best you can ever hope for is to convince them to give the finished product a fair shot.

I was always pretty intrigued with Alex thinking he could pull off 1980s mode, since supposedly the school had a strict uniform and hairstyle policy - i.e. no crazy clown colours or novelty accessories - so all the students had the same uniform and all had black hair. But the crazy clown colours and customised uniforms are literally the only way to tell character models apart in this game.

It's simple - rivals in the main game are already established, they have distinct appearances and personalities. Just giving them some half-assed routine and 2 interactions with senpai in a span of a week is going to degrade them to the same level with the rest of the students. Also, even with that little features it will take Alex at least 6 months to do that, since no one's been starting a fire under his ass after the downfall of Apedois.

He probably thinks he can add all 10 rivals to the 80's mode, since they were never established and are basically Rival1, Rival2, etc. He thinks he can throw them all together to give some sort of experience of eliminating 10 rivals and say "Hey, do you want this in the main game? Donate to my Kickstarter campaign!" However, no one gives two fucks about that mode and about Ayano's mom, who is almost absent from the story. Killing 10 rivals who were added that way will be incredibly boring, bland and tiresome. And when it happens, anyone sane will ask him "you've spent 7+ years just to give this half-assed excuse in the end?".

He is way past the point of winning that one.
