I'm sure this has been shared in the thread at this point and it won't provide Yanderedev veterans any new information, but for newer observers, there have genuinely been so many failed attempts at Yandere Simulator clones that this dude made an hour long video covering every single one of them up to a year ago:

Same point though, ultimately it won't happen because anyone dumb or impulsive enough to try to make a videogame just to prove something is going to be too dumb and impulsive to finish a game, even ignoring the difficult concept. Plus you can't get more than one idiot on the internet together without them breaking down into trashy, petty drama.
For God's sake, I really wish people would stop categorizing Saiko no Sutoka as a yansim clone. I think the plot is junior-high fanfic tier, but it has a different premise, and at least the gameplay elements aren't conflicting.

This part is especially correct. Those aren't professionals working for a rate and under project guidelines, those are amateurs. Often complete amateurs with little work ethic, and working from momma's basement. It also really, really doesn't help that they come from basically "internet bloodsports".

Usually, that wouldn't be too bad if they were trying to make a puzzler, a platformer, a 2D social sim at most. But no, they're aiming for the stars of 3d Hitman+ dev. They're trying to make Alex's terrible fucking idea work!

That's the most ironic and retarded part. Upon realising they're not going to be making progress like that they themselves become mini-Yandevs, and end up spending more time cultivating a drama circle/social club than actually developing anything worth shit. Egos and autism run high, and thus those people just start screaming at each other. "The game", that abstract, spite-based entity, quickly fades into the background as lolcalf Discord drama takes over.

That saying, "don't try to prove you're better than a cow because if you do you very likely aren't"? This is the definition of that.

AA degree in 2D/3D animation, ladies and gentleman. No wonder, education in US is utterly fucked.

To be fair, I've seen lots of devs/authors/showrunners ect. give lore tidbits via fan questions, and it's usually details like Alex described here that aren't important enough to make it into the work.
Now, should this be your way of fleshing out important aspects of your main characters and worldbuilding? Absolutely not, that's just laziness.

I feel like a retard artfag explaining this but just fyi, this isn't supposed to be a cock. It's supposed to be an outline/shadow made by the dip where the pelvic area starts. Drawing skirts and dresses like this is popular with coomer artists - like Kjech and now Mul since she's been forced by Alex to draw in his style - who constantly need an indicator where the girl's pussy is located.

It looks dumb as shit.

A Hitman clone is absurd for any independent developer to attempt. Just thinking about the complexity of each of the different interactions makes my head spin.
Original first hitman was made by 10 dudes in denmark because they wanted to make cooler ragdolls, they built their own engine for that too. In 2000s. They wanted to make mmos.
Shits possible given adequate funding and an experienced team, access to both of which yandev had, and pissed away.

You’re talking about devs in the 2000s that had godlike skills vs indie developers today who would be hopeless without Unity.

All the talent that a Hitman clone would need are working for triple-A studios, none of which would caught dead working on an anime game unless they were in Japan. Those guys are working for >$100k salaries as well.

I’m sure the tinyBuild programmer was competent, but he was only one person. It probably would have failed anyways due to timelines. Look at how tinyBuild fucked up Hello Neighbor and it’s sequel, which was advertised to have adaptive AI but had to be scraped.

Are you concerned about time? Developing yandere sim?

"Alex Mahan dead at 45: Yandere Sim left unfinished"

I didn't know Alex was into futanari

Probably double posting but what the fuck? The model on the left is better because that's how a shirt and skirt like those would fit irl. A shirt wouldn't wrap your waist, if it's not made of spandex. The shading of the newer skirt is bizarre. Coomers are gonna coom, fuck physics.

February 1 status report (archive)
The gameplay and voice acting for the 202X Mode tutorial are 100% finished, implemented, and tested. Everything is almost ready to go; only one thing remains.

The “first draft” of the pre-tutorial cutscene has been completed, but I would like for the animations to be tweaked and adjusted in a few ways before I release a build containing the tutorial. I know that it might be disappointing to hear that it’s not done yet, but I really don’t want to release the tutorial with flaws in the intro cutscene. Working so hard on the tutorial – and then releasing it with a flawed cutscene attached – would be like running a 10km race and then tripping right before the finish line. I won’t release it until that cutscene is ready.

While I was waiting for animations to come in, I looked at my checklist and wondered what to work on while waiting for the animations. I selected a checklist item and started working on it. What item was it? I want it to be a surprise, but I’ll say that it’s less of a “new feature” and more of an “overhaul” to an existing feature. Anyway, I thought that I would be able to complete the task before Feb 1st…but I couldn’t get it done in time. As a result, I can’t really release a new build right now, since one of the game’s features is in a half-functional “in the middle of being overhauled” state.

In short, what I’m saying is that I don’t have a new build for you today. I won’t release a new build until after I’ve finalized the tutorial cutscene and finished overhauling the other feature. To make up for it, though, I’d like to tell you some details about what the next build is going to contain.

It’s tradition to give you a glimpse of upcoming content using blurry screenshots, so…take a look at this!
Hey, want to hear something really stupid? YouTube flagged that video for “content identified as not suitable for most advertisers.” What the heck, YouTube? It’s so blurry that you can’t even tell what is happening! How can it possibly be “unsuitable for advertisers” if you can’t even see anything or hear anything? Chill out!

Anyway, that’s not the only preview I have to share with you. Get a load of this:
What the heck was that video all about? I’m not going to tell you! You’ll just have to wait and find out!

In addition to the tutorial and the mysterious thing above, the next build will also have 24 improvements. Miscellaneous improvements, quality-of-life improvements, players-have-been-asking-for-this-FOREVER improvements, etc. A lot of the additions coming in the next build are new animations for the game. Some of the game’s worst and oldest animations are finally getting replaced by much more smooth and polished animations. I’m so grateful for that! The next build will also contain bug fixes – a lot of them. 35, to be exact.

Between the tutorial, the overhauled feature, the mystery video above, the improved animations, and everything else, the next build is going to be a pretty big one. I cannot give you an exact release date, but I will be posting a preview screenshot/video here on this blog once per day every day until the next build is out. I’d like to imagine it will only take 1 more day, 2 days maximum, but I don’t want to make any promises. I’ll need some help from one of my animation volunteers, and I don’t want to make any assumptions about the availability of other people.

That’s all I’ve got to say for now. Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

They thought yandev posted censored hentai, and honestly, the game is technically kind of a softcore hentai game, given the gross panty shot mechanics still present there to this day, as well as the questionable age of the characters in the highschool (despite his weird ass LARPing college delinquent lore). Also, why is there confetti popping up every time I click in this site?

February 2 status report (archive)
The tutorial cutscene is now 100% finished! Barring some slight animation tweaks that might come in a future update later this month, I’m satisfied with it, and I’m ready to release a new build containing it. I’ve also finished the “overhaul” that I mentioned I was doing to one of the game’s features. The new build is ready to be released! It’s going to be a really big build; I’ve already written the blog post for it, and it’s a very long one! But…there’s one thing holding me back from releasing it.

I’d like to elaborate and share all of my thoughts on the matter, but first, let’s get something out of the way; for every day that passes that I don’t release the update, I’m going to share a preview of something that will appear in the next update. Here is today’s preview:
It’s an adjustment to the visuals of the intro animation; now there are shards of glass floating around Ayano, symbolizing the feeling of being broken, shattered, and torn into pieces. I still plan to make other changes to the rest of the intro cutscene, as well; the rest of the intro cutscene will gradually get updated little by little over time.

Okay! With that out of the way, let’s get to the reasoning for why I’m not releasing a new build right this very minute. Please click Continue Reading:

Why No Update Today?
Okay…here’s my reasoning.

I’m really proud of the tutorial, and the cutscene preceeding it. It was a lot of work – about as much work as putting a new gameplay mode into the game. It’s rare for this many new animations + voice lines + gameplay objectives to go into the game all at once. The last time something like that happened, it was 1980s Mode, and the time before that, it was the addition of Osana.

“But, YandereDev! It’s just a tutorial! Tutorials are always the most boring part of a game; many people just skip them!” Yeah, yeah, I know. But in terms of how much time/work/effort/assets went into it, it’s a big addition to the game.

Because I think it’s such a big deal, I’ve been considering the idea of making a YouTube video about it on my main channel. Yes, that’s right – barely a month after I said, “I won’t return to YouTube until I’ve finished my entire checklist, and my next video will be a summary of everything I’ve done since 1980s Mode…” I’m considering just uploading an entire video to talk about one subject, the tutorial. If I decide to do this, I wouldn’t release a new build until after the video was complete. (If I plan to make a video about the game’s latest content, I never release the content before the video.)

However, the video wouldn’t take very long to create. It wouldn’t really be a traditional YandereDev video. For one thing, it wouldn’t have any voiceover narration from me. Because Kokona is talking almost nonstop for the entire duration of the tutorial, there would be almost no room for me to talk. And there’s not much for me to say, anyway, since tutorials are so common and universally understood that I don’t need to spend any time justifying the tutorial’s existence. The video would basically just be me showing you the pre-tutorial cutscene, and then every aspect of the tutorial.

I’m not certain whether or not I really want to do this. I feel that there are pros and cons to the decision.

Pros:

  • New YandereDev video! That’s something you want to see more of, right?
  • I get to show off something I’m proud of to a large audience!
  • YouTubers are going to upload “All Yandere Simulator Tutorials” videos, anyway, so I may as well do it myself.
Cons:

  • I just made a video less than 2 months ago announcing that I wouldn’t be uploading anything to YouTube until I had met certain criteria, and I haven’t met that critera yet.
  • People might be underwhelmed by a video where I don’t talk and do nothing but tutorials.
  • This will probably be “the newest video on my channel” for several months. Because it’ll be the “newest” video, it’ll be interpreted as “the latest news about Yandere Simulator.” For a lot of people, “He put a tutorial in the game” will not be interesting or significant news. This could make the game look bad. I would rather have the “latest video” continue to be the “Disappearance of YandereDev” video, since that video carries a meaningful message.
  • I can already tell what lame remarks people are going to make about the video. “It took him 9 years to put a tutorial in the game? This game won’t come out until 3023!” and other stupid crap like that. Why bother giving people fuel for shitty remarks? Maybe I shouldn’t release any videos at all until I have something ultra-impressive to show off.
I haven’t really made a decision yet. I might make a video to show off the tutorial, I might not. I’ll make my decision tomorrow. Even if I do decide to make the video, I anticipate that it won’t take very long to make. Either way, you’re probably less than 48 hours away from getting a new build.

I hope that clears things up. Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
