also, the main bug in this video

Why are they all slowly sliding towards the player like that? What even causes that?

A few nicknames would be fine but ALL names in the school being nicknames one is retarded, especially because the names would be dumb unfunny nicknames that make no sense for most people, like Osana "Childhood Friend" Najimi.

And i don't fucking know man, how do you kidnap a guy and an unrelated girl appears in your basement? Ayano was somehow alive and dead at the same time, i'm assuming Ayano was technically considered a corpse so the teachers were trying to check her and that action somehow overrode everyone else's code.

Again, THIS is why you don't write your entire game on elses/ifs.

Nicknames do not work that way anywhere.

Speaking of the naming/nickname shit, isn't it traditional in Japan for people to use a first name as a sort of nickname? In honorific speech you're supposed to address someone by their last name, unless you're good friends and then they often use the first name and attach suffixes like -chan and -san to the end. I don't entirely remember (or probably even know) how this works, but with Eva being the massive weeb he is, shouldn't he know this?

Fuck it just give them all English names, the game is fucking localized in English.

Since I vaguely know the ways of weeb, it's more like surname-san for everyone you're just acquaintances with or don't know to much. For people you kinda know or are loose friends, first name-san works quite well too, being a bit less formal. Firstname-chan or kun is usually for closer buddies or if you're talking to the wee ones. As for your closest buds it's literally just their name, no honorifics. Anime swaps it a bit so that chan and kun get used for the really close ties because the west does things differently and with less rape.

So if Alex had any ability to not fuck things up, Sempai'd probably be calling Osana just Osana since they should be closest of close, but given the massive amounts of broken and brain-damaged contradictions he's too lazy and stubborn to fix, this is but a blackhead on the sore-riddled and bloated corpse that is the story that is so bad his teenage fanbase would probably be better at writing it.

Yeah, they either do that, add an “n” at the end of the name, or most commonly, abbreviate the name. Just like how Robert becomes Rob, Osana could become Osa-Chan, but very rarely is that done by the opposite sex. Either way, in no reality would the entire school adopt a nickname for someone in any country let alone one as heavy on honorifics as Japan

Maybe Info-chan gives Yandere-chan fake and ridiculous nicknames for the others students because she doesn't want Yandere-chan to gain midway through her killing spree some sort of conscience. By giving deliberately stupid names to the other students she helps Yandere-chan to see the other students as nothing more than carboard cutout and not actual real people with a familly and a life outside of the school thus ensuring Yandere-chan doing her job until the end without any interference of what could be some sort of emotions.

The player would be in the same situation. Believing it's a meme game with ridiculous characters names until it's revealed at the end of the game that all of the manga, fanservice and stupid shit is just how Yandere-chan choose to saw the situation (help by Info-chan conforting her in these desillusions) and in reality the game took place in a world much more similar to the one we live in with real names for the students and just a cold killer believing that all of that was just a stupid game.

Seriously the game is in development, shit changes in games that are in development. In anything that's in development. The number one writing advice is always to not be afraid to completely cut out or change something that just isn't working. There's no reason he couldn't just re-name characters.

You know, other than autism. Because Alex just immediately throws his every idea into the game, or at least gets his art slaves to help him make a whole video about it, as if every idea he has is perfect and will work.

The dumb names are too iconic, that's the problem. Normally if something in a game doesn't work you just cut it because most devs don't share nearly everything about the games they're working on for exactly this reason. Alex has been oversharing since day one and the placeholder models, silly names and even the name "Yandere Simulator" itself have gotten too popular to just throw them out.

That's why he didn't go through entirely with renaming the game to Lovesick. Even Alex realizes that it's a marketing disaster in the making.

I think he got worried it'd be a flash in the pan meme like Goat Simulator. But still, no one is ever going to treat it as anything more than a comedy game because the premise is absurd by its nature.

I guess what's most depressing is everything I thought was intended to be funny and a parody of like a kid writing their first totally original anime was just.... a kid writing their first totally original anime.

The difference is that the game should have been completely mapped out before developement started and he should have created a vertical slice with most of the features ready before bothering with naming characters and doing design details like hair or adding Easter eggs for memes. All stories and writing get the basic beats of the plot written out first, then they create the characters, then they elaborate on the outline and plug in the character personalities to make it all make sense and be believable. No one writes as they go along, it’s the fastest way to mess up a story.
He’s doing this all backwards and it will/has ruin the end product

Only Alex could find a way to make me hate Star Wars: Rebels even more.

This all talk about nicknames reminds me of a manga I read that has all the characters named after their personality traits. The sicko obsessive violent bitch has the word "yandere" on her name, the bland protagonist is literally called "just a guy" and this one character is named Osana Najimi. But unlike Alex, the author was not incompetent and had a legitimate reason for that. For example, the well-executed Osana is the childhood friend of everyone in the town. It's over the top and embraces it, and what a surprise, it works out. Seeing stuff like this reminds me that you can make everything even a moderate success if you give even a second of a thought into it.

(:offtopic:story is "Komi-san wa komyushou desu" for anyone wondering)
