A game having a cute/comedic & a dark/serious side isn't a bad idea. It's how the idea is played out that makes it bad.
Alex is trying to make both, but it doesn't work. He can't mold the ideas together, so he split them into two games. In general, that's a bad idea. Just keep the debugs and easter eggs in the builds until the official game comes out, THEN remove them or limit them drastically.
As of the Lovesick theme... it's bad. Very, very bad. It looks horrendous to view. I don't care if it becomes magenta and dark blue. It will still look terrible. The "bugs" stuff is ok, but I feel like it's been ripped off of something. Same as blackmail, but hey, it's better than panty shots.
However, I will give him some credit. The Senpai customization is much better in Lovesick than the normal one.
But there's another thing- the new build.
+He replaced water with bleach. The model is ugly, but it's a more realistic approach to cleaning (I think)
+Mai has a new facial appearance. Not bad either, but it looks a bit off
+Male students react to the camera now, after god-knows how long
+Mei is a teacher's pet now. She and another character also have glasses
+The 6 guys in the plaza have different personalities now
