I imagine it won't take long for some gremlin to leak it when it does finally release, so there's no reason to give any money to Alex.
His clarification post is certainly something. Nothing sells me more on a project than someone insisting multiple times that this is actually what I've always wanted for years and I should be happy about it. It's that classic experience, go to a nice restaurant, order a steak, get chicken instead because the chef insists they're both meat from an animal, so this is actually what I've wanted since 2016 and it was clearly explained in a blogpost he admits is intentionally vague. Okay, the restaurant thing got away from me there.
But in all seriousness, what most people latched onto is the characters. With the remaining fans especially, their big interest is in the characters. The most interesting thing with the gameplay is how fast people can speedrun it.
A decent game dev could maybe pull something like this off, but Alex hasn't exactly shown himself to be a good writer, and this is way too late in development to try and introduce a slapped together game mode to make it seem like progress is being made. This is the kind of thing I'd expect from the start of an early access title, not after years of development.
The logic, in typical Alex fashion, makes no sense. Yeah, he had to add some systems in for the main game, but I can't imagine a world where in his natural development cycle, he also had to implement 10 brand new rivals and a new main character. It's not like these are blank slates to test a system, he's made it sound like there's a story and each rival has their own personality. And you can really tell he's trying to make this into the final product with how much he's insisted this is what he always promised/what people want.
